Hi and what a great video. I bought my first ever Lexus gs 450h 2006 some 4 weeks ago. There’s 95% of things I can relate to in my car. My LS460L has auto headlight option in the stalk maybe its a Euro thing, replacing it with a USA stalk give auto lights but it removes the rear fog light switch . The Auto sensitivity for the AC is based on the sensor in the front, replace it or clean it to get better sensitivity . In regards to the ACC your car has LKA and pre-crash system , in addition to the front radar there is a stereo video camera on the top of the windshield and it stops working at high speed wiper and extreme hot and cold weather by design . So to minimize random shutoff clean the top of the front windshield and the Lexus logo at the front .The brake sound is the brake actuator for sure, make sure to replace it with latest part number. @@swisscarguy Hi Mario: if you leave the headlamp switch set to "Dipped Headlights", do they switch off with the ignition? If so, would that work for you?
Noise from brake actuator is common thing on LS460/600h, as on RX460h. Heating problem caused by low coolant level. You need to fill up heater core that seats higher than radiator and usually is half-empty. And you have to fill exactly the core , through pipe that heads it. Steering wheel leather is worn quicker on cars with heated wheel. That is just it's quirk.
Thanks for the video, I am considering to buy one! Just wondering coming from a LS430. Is this use more petrol than the LS430 and how is the maintenance cost compared to the LS430.
If you hold down the auto recirculate button, you can increase the sensitivity of the air quality sensor, the default setting is too insensitive I think. Also the main reason for using auto recirculate is that it will turn on recirculate when you get in the car to speed up climate control then automatically switch back to outside air when it reaches a steady state.
Did you give in and have your wheels refurbished? Agreed regarding most points. Mine is the conventional auto and that doesn't roll back on a hill, so it must be a specific thing with the CVT. I also test drove a modern ECVT and it also held the car, so it must be possible!
Oh yeah, the problems of wealthy people. Good evening, Mario. You know, with a little help from the your friends on the internet, you really could tackle some of the issues. Removing the rear bench should not be that difficult. But I understand, it's still a lot of work. The good news is, that I will move to southern Bavaria before next year, so I intend to visit you to have a coffee, on you of course. I'll be coming by with my V10 Phaeton and you know how it is, I won't have any money left over to buy anything in Switzerland. And we even can do some work together. I'll help you with the rear bench and you help me to remove the entire dashboard, the front seats and the engine to replace a little hose clamp on the oil cooler. Sounds reasonable to me.
Hello, Mario. I live in that weird house on the hillside behind you and came upon your video while decided whether to get an LS600h. Nice coincidence. (Yes, I _am_ getting it, hope to have it by next week.)
Hey man I have the non hybrid version of this car and most of your concerns are spot on but about point 6 I have never in a long time even touched the headlight switch, I just put it all the way forward to auto and whenever I turn on my engine the lights turn on (if it senses night time) and when I lock my car it turns off after 30 seconds or if you press the lock key twice!
I have a 07 LS460L with executive pkg. Overall fantastic car. My 3rd LS. A few minor annoying things as with everything in life. Glove box loose, inability to change things on the display until stopped, and I had 1 whopper repair bill this year. But the car is nearing 17 years old ( only 68,000 on the odometer ) so I wasn’t shocked. It was control arms ( all ) knuckles, bushings, valve cover gaskets, brakes, spark plugs, tire sensors, hood supports, etc etc to the tune of 11 grand. That hurt but as you’ve stated…for whatever reason I love this car and I’m still glad to get into it every day! Enjoy your videos.
I have a 2015 LS 600hL (executive model) and my dashboard de-lamented - leather just peeled back near the front window. Mine is garaged with 51K miles. Lexus did nothing to correct the problem and replacement cost were - honestly - 16K for new dashboard and 2.5K to install. So I had is re-wrapped and a restoration shop in Denver for 3K - which is good as they did not take out the dashboard. What I also did was legally tint the front windshield to eliminate the UV rays. Disappointed that Lexus did not stand behind their mistake. I want to share my story with all Lexus owners. Yes, I am keeping the car - mechanically is it solid.
If the rain is heavy enough to need fastest wiper speed you shouldn’t use cruise control at all Lexus may be saving your life And dude! You have a lot of first world issues That’s a nice car! I wouldn’t kick it out of bed for sure!😂😂😎😏
You forgot to mention that the semi-auto operation of the gearstick was designed by someone who doesn't know how to drive. Pushing forward to go up a gear & pulling back to go down a gear is stupid!
I have a 2008 LS600HL. I agree about the wheels paint job. I live in New York, although I bought the car used and it came from Florida. After only 2 winters I see the paint flaking off the wheel, especially near the center cap. I agree about the trunk not closing by remote or button. It certainly has the capability to close on its own, I don't know why they didn't add that feature. My trunk never gets stuck half way while closing. There must be something wrong with yours. I agree about the obstructed buttons but the other buttons on the steering wheel are not useless. In fact I use all of the buttons pretty frequently. What do you mean your car doesn't have automatic headlights? That's a standard feature for that model, at least it is here in the US. That's really strange that your car doesn't have that included feature. My glovebox is perfectly fine. My pet peeve about the glovebox is the light that is inside the glovebox. It's so dim, it's practically useless. I have the executive seating package so my cooler is in the center armrest and is much bigger than yours. Of course, because my car has that option, I have many more features in the back seat that your car doesn't have and all of those features actually work quite well. The cupholders were designed for cups. The kind you get from fast food or Starbucks. Then again, plastic bottles here in the US tend to be wider than the ones in your video but I have seen some bottles flop around in the cupholders. What did you install in the radio? It sounds like you said a Ground V line? What's that? The radio does lock out some functions when your driving because that's a standard safety feature of most cars and by law, at least here in the US, some functions have to be disabled when the car is moving. I am told that there is a way of getting into the radio menu using a code that will allow you to override that function. I was able to transfer my contacts but you have to use a third party app to get that done. My fuel gauge is pretty accurate after fueling but mine is set to gallons not liters because I am in the US. I don't know if that's why mine is more accurate. You misunderstand what the function of the recirculate air function is for. It's not for bad smells, as much as it allows passive outside air to mix with the inside air to aid in defogging the inside glass. You're right that the car doesn't do a good enough job filtering out bad smells from outside. Since they changed the laws here in the US about marijuana, everybody seems to be smoking in their car and that smell is disgusting. I can't seem to filter it out with the climate system. For some reason, my screen looks a little better than yours. My map especially looks better than yours, maybe it is more updated. You're right about heated and cooled seat function light. It's in the wrong place. Speaking of that function, it's kind of noisy and the cooling function doesn't seem to do anything on hot days. I don't have the issues you do with the breaks, mine works well. I don't have any of the issues you're having with ACC. My cooler doesn't make any noise. I think it's a different system with the executive package. I have the same issue with the climate system. Regardless of the temperature setting, cool air come out of the vents unless you set it very hot. It's very annoying. It is probably related to coolant level, I will check that. I don't have the issue with the break noise. Don't all cars roll back a little when you're on a steep grade in an automatic? That's what the hold feature is for.
I’m looking to currently buy this model but I’m finding it difficult to locate them here in Dallas TX. Do you have any recommendations and what to look for? What year did they stop making this car? What is the best spec?? I agree about the dashboard tech, it’s looking very dated…with that plastic trim around the TV 📺 I also hear the control arms and bushings are a big problem $$?? I test drove the LS500 last month, apart from the new dashboard I was not impressed with the acceleration or engine sound (am I missing something?? 🤷♂️🤔) I much prefer the V8! 😀
Lexus stopped making this model in 2017. 2013 saw a major facelift where they changed both the exterior and the interior. Spec is a bit difficult since LS600h tend to be very loaded. The only optional things I would look for ist the leather covered dash (nice). Whether you want a 4-seater with the ottoman in the rear or a more practical bench in the rear is down to preference. I'm happy to have the bench or trips to IKEA and the home improvement store would be impossible. The facelifted cars have much prettier (and hopefully better quality) wheels and the interiors look more modern. But I like the old man interior of the older cars (yes, even the plastic bezel) and I do not like that the new cars don't have a touch screen infotainment anymore. The graphics are nicer, but usability is worse in my book. Control arms (and bushings) will come on all of these heavy cars at some point in time. On the LS600h it's an expensive job because the lower front control arms are only available from Toyota ($$$) as they are specific to the 4WD and not the same as on the regular RWD LS460. On my car, the job was $5k since labour is very expensive in Switzerland and everything was pretty much seized solid, so it took the garage forever to do it. If you can work on your car yourself and replace the bushings, you can do it *much* more cheaply. Personally, I did not want to replace just the bushings and leave the old ball joints in place, so I bought all the front control arms (the upper ones were after-market though, by Febest). Having to pay a mechanic to replace the bushings in the existing control arms would have costed almost the same as just buying the damned things. An LS600h will most likely accelerate slower than an LS500h. So, that might not be an improvement. V8 is sure nice having. Anyway, if you are considering an LS500h, keep in mind that the 2 cars are fairly different. The 600 is a more old-school Lexus and being an older car is in a different league in regards to purchase price. The older car will be much cheaper but things will come up at some point (i.e. control arms). Whereas the newer car should be completely bullet-proof for years to come. I like the new LS, it's beautiful and I love the interior. But for me personally, buying/leasing a car this new and expensive would not be financially feasible as I cannot afford the depreciation. In any case: test drive all the cars you are interested in. I love the LS600h but you might actually hate driving it.

PCS error all over the place with no solution for me 4. fog lights + front lights weak 5. small battery can not be charge through the big battery if its empty. 6. smaller spare tyre would be enough for letting more useful space left in trunk compartment 7. the rubber sealing around the roof sunshade exterior side is wearing down way too fast and will cause water leakage in the long run for the owner 8. lumbar support is pretty weak imho indeed too 9. fuel consumption is high for a hybrid 5(or 4) seater car with limited trunk space & no roof rack option !! 10. the back view camera is almost impossible to use when its dark outside.
Check your coolant level sometimes it’ll blow cold air. If coolant is low top off and keep a eye on it. If it leaks out you have a leak or a leaking valley plate.
Funnily enough some of the complains you have, are typical of a car made for American market and of an American car. *The headlights fox example, most American cars of that era and older do not have DRLs. You want lights, you have to turn them on. Sometimes I forget to turn mine on. *The side mirror tilt when reversing. Also present on my Lincoln Mark VIII from 1997. Mine do tilt far enough to see the curb, but I keep it switched off because with 60 section high sidewall, I don't really care where the curb is. *The seating position (21). Now that is a surprise. I have test driven the LS430 and it felt like it had ample room front and rear (I'm 1.92, 140-ish kg) and I could even sit behind myself. Or maybe, the seating position is really down to personal preference. My Mark VIII, it feels like I am sitting in a bath tub, the beltline feels to low, the seat feels really close to the floor of the car and to the ground. Then again, with independent suspension front and rear and the low center of gravity, it is a bathtub with excellent driving characteristics (like a big go-cart with too long a wheelbase).
How about this gremlin... Tried to change the high beam bulbs with better ones but failed. Terrible access. You have to have smal Japanese hands to get to them. The manual says move the windshield washer filler (left side of car) that would probably be OK but on the right side 2 electronic boxes need to be released with bolts and moved and then it's still impossible to get to the bulb. Looks like one needs to remove the whole headlight unit 😡 Any tips anyone how to get this done? Agree with most the other Gremlins except the brake actuator and rolling back (although I live in the Netherlands😉) and the seating position, I'm 1,88 cm but this is the best and most comfortable car I have ever owned. I love my 2011 LS 600h!

You commented about it at the end of the video. The auto gearbox creep function doesn’t hold. The hand brake turned off or on with one finger with no need cover foot on brake ! What. Thus just drives away. Other manufacturers ensure a dummy cannot have a car roll away. It is the same in reverse. Only if you open the door will the emergency handbrake be applied. Crazy. I also have the usual odd brake feel so many others comment upon. Is a good number quirks !!! Only had car 10 hours.

Steering wheel leather is worn quicker on cars with heated wheel. That is just it's quirk.
Thanks for the video, I am considering to buy one! Just wondering coming from a LS430. Is this use more petrol than the LS430 and how is the maintenance cost compared to the LS430.
15:14 Lexus will replace the brake actuator for free if you are persistent.
Beautiful car and great content Mario 😊
Been eyeing an LS of this generation, I'm surprised it doesn't hold on inclines... especially as I live in a city with a lot of inclines :(
Did you give in and have your wheels refurbished?
Agreed regarding most points. Mine is the conventional auto and that doesn't roll back on a hill, so it must be a specific thing with the CVT. I also test drove a modern ECVT and it also held the car, so it must be possible!
Or mine is broken. 🤷🏻♂️
You know, the rattling parcel shelf is not that bad. I think I will keep it. 😅
The Phaeton takes some beating even though it produced a hilariously funny classic video courtesy of you and at your expense.
Hello, Mario.
I live in that weird house on the hillside behind you and came upon your video while decided whether to get an LS600h. Nice coincidence.
(Yes, I _am_ getting it, hope to have it by next week.)
Did you get it?
@@swisscarguy Yes. Drove home (via Furkapass) last Tuesday. Seems quite nice so far.
Also holyyyyyyyy those seats at 13:25 look so beautiful and comfortable lol
Also, I experience the shudder in the brakes exactly like you explained when braking from high speeds also, not the best braking car.
They truly were next level. Each seat in the front even had 2(!) belt rollers so you basically would not feel the seat belt.
But now that you've done everything it's going to be good for the next 17 years!
If the rain is heavy enough to need fastest wiper speed you shouldn’t use cruise control at all
Lexus may be saving your life
And dude! You have a lot of first world issues
That’s a nice car! I wouldn’t kick it out of bed for sure!😂😂😎😏
Hahahaha I have an LS460 and I have some of the same grievances. Still absolutely love my car though!
Everything u said is on point i owned 5 and now i have a 2014 LS460L And most issues u mentioned is still there
LOL I watched this just because I love my LS460 L, but, yah good to know that if I need to get more gas, I need to open the "Fuel filler" LOL LOL ;)
I'm surprised, my 1995 LS400 has automatic headlights!
You forgot to mention that the semi-auto operation of the gearstick was designed by someone who doesn't know how to drive.
Pushing forward to go up a gear & pulling back to go down a gear is stupid!
Yepp, never use it but it is dumb.
Most annoying thing about my Toyota Hilux is the missing volume knob. Only touch + and -. Super stupid.
I'm so impressed that you have kept this car this long. Well sorry, I am impressed the car is so good you have kept it so long.
Props to the car😂
That's what the hold feature is for.
next video: I sold my Lexus :D
I’m looking to currently buy this model but I’m finding it difficult to locate them here in Dallas TX.
Do you have any recommendations and what to look for?
What year did they stop making this car?
What is the best spec??
I agree about the dashboard tech, it’s looking very dated…with that plastic trim around the TV 📺
I also hear the control arms and bushings are a big problem $$??
1. wheel on mine are stable - maybe the black paint on yours is weak
2. my trunk opens & closes normally - i have 2007
3. close buttons are annoying indeed
4. my glovebox is loose but makes no noise.
5. fridge is unusable but I dont care.
6. i use custom flask diameter for my cupholder - coke is unhealthy anyway.
7. fuel consumption is never precise in cars dashboard
8. you can save the position on the side mirror down position for reverse
9. seat heat cool button is annoying
10. for me the seating position is good
11. my brake attenuator is perfect, no noise
12. i always turn volume down if i go in the reverse direction - way more safe to do
13. for me in sport mode its pretty stable in high speed corners
14. your acc is broken. mine is fine
15. your strust were not fasten properly... this is not to hate about ls600h.
16. steering wheel leather pretty weak indeed
17. on steep roads i never roll back. strange sympthom on yours.
My top 10 hate list:
1. brakes mechanism works weird while stopping for high speeds down
2. no usb-in music option given from factory despite there was usb standard 2.0 in 2008
3. PCS error all over the place with no solution for me
4. fog lights + front lights weak
5. small battery can not be charge through the big battery if its empty.
6. smaller spare tyre would be enough for letting more useful space left in trunk compartment
7. the rubber sealing around the roof sunshade exterior side is wearing down way too fast and will cause water leakage in the long run for the owner
8. lumbar support is pretty weak imho indeed too
9. fuel consumption is high for a hybrid 5(or 4) seater car with limited trunk space & no roof rack option !!
10. the back view camera is almost impossible to use when its dark outside.
1. Do you drive on salted roads in the winter for months?
Check your coolant level sometimes it’ll blow cold air. If coolant is low top off and keep a eye on it. If it leaks out you have a leak or a leaking valley plate.
what about 2013-2017 model ?
Love the Mark VIII, proper old school barge!
Is taking the entire headlight out an option?
@@swisscarguyGuy Would be, but a big job. The whole bumper needs to come off.... I just want to upgrade the bulbs, but they still work so I will leave it. Thanks for the reply.
So my 460 has the Auto brake hold I played around with today. And yes. Needs seat belt on and door shut ( Odd ) So I’m a car trader. I’ve not seen this brake function other manufacturers.
I after 8 years finally found out how to put my contacts into the phone book.
to have 34 things you HATE about any car you do not need to be driving/owning that vehicle try your luck with an 08 S Class an 08 750iL or Audi A8
im the very proud owner of an 08 LS460 and ive owned several lexus vehicles from RX GS F SPORT AND TWO GX 460's and numerous camrys and a Sienna the LS
is easily the best car ive ever owned in my life and i believe its V8 is the best engineered on this planet
Why? On another car I might have more things that annoy me. A car doesn't have to be perfect for me to like or even love it. Nothing can ever be perfect.
Regarding the heat issue, check the coolant level, if it's low it could be causing that.
Coolant level is normal and I noticed the same, Seems like an issue before thermostat opens. If my revs are low, which it usually is driving from home at 40-50kph until about 15min when I join the Dual carriage way heat is noticeably cool even at 23.5°.
I had this exact problem with heater occasionally venting cold air in my 2008 LS 600h. Adding coolant fixed it right up.
@@puhakpe I am positive the last service my coolant was not topped up. I had to add about 1.5L to top it. Thanks Lexus for 10mm bolts 🙄, at least I have heat nearly 20min stationery today. Cheers Petri.
