- This is my first look through the GOOD PROFILES of the new ARMIES OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS book. It's my first reaction and things that jumped out at me as I read through. This will be an eight part series of going through the profiles and armies of each new Army Book. I'll aim to get the out pretty sharpish so shouldn't be long to wait until the next one! Hopefully it will be something nice to paint along to and we'll have a full review out and rankings etc once we've played a decent amount of games. This is essentially just watching me open an early Christmas present :D Hope you enjoy!

Armoured Celeborn will be in the Armies book with the brothers & court guard etc. If he keeps the rules he has in this new book but can also be armed & armoured he’ll be really good giving that +1 to wound in Loth is massive.
Gil-Galad losing the horse I can take but not happy about the shield as it’s literally pictured in the book under his profile plus it’s mentioned in the lore.
Luckily I’ve had it agreed with the person I play most with Gily gets 3 fate in Lindon keeps 1 in the LA but also he’ll have the option for his shield in both still! As that change I just can’t get behind.
That's a cool idea- 3 Fate Lindon and one LA! And yeah I like Celeborn, but he is different now..! 😅
@ I’ll do the same with Elendil in pure Numenor, just makes sense with characters like Boz getting a 3 fate profile. Gily lives a very long life before he dies to basically a Demi god 😂
Yeah not sure about this version of Loth I’ll try it but never rated Haldir compared to his brothers and armoured Celeborn was always included in my lists, hope the 3rd book isn’t too far away!
Thanks for the review! The horn of gondor on Boromir is also actually a war horn this time around too (about time!)
I didn't realise that until now! That's great, and very much time!
This is excellent content! Looking forward to catching the whole series as I try to stick these new plastic model faces together!
Haha that's exactly what it's for... So many faces...!
Frealaf was done dirty in my opinion. Hopefully he gets a king or relief of the hornburg profile
I think there's a enough like a Mumak + Dunland legion and Southrons to justify a small Rohirrim expansion with scenarios from the back end of the film so hopefully!
As the highest placing Two Trees Brother at Throne of Skulls, Aaron is the best qualified for this analysis 😂
Good Armies are best Armies!
😂 I'm not passing this on. 😂 And I'm evil all the way. I so rarely go good, I think every time has been filmed 😅
@twotreesgaming 😂😂
I just hate being the bad guy lo! Also think the points increase to horses is good for the game but definitely hurts as a Rohan player!
I can say that Helm as a wraith is pretty scary! I was playing a game against my friend who had the Reclaimation of Osgiliath army, and Helm kept heroic combatting into heros (Faramir and Madril) and I can say that Heroic combat is scary!
Yeah I think I maybe didn't equate to all his stats added up - F7, S6 and the combat and mighty blow, he's a beast!
were are the dwarves??? has khaza-dum been squated?
There's a third book that's been announced but with no release date yet. That's going to have stuff from the "book" and GW inventions in it. Khazad Dum will be in there!
A lot of heroes are getting good buffs making them more expensive. Does this mean there will be less heroes in armies ?
Potentially, or maybe more need for a mix of smaller and bigger heroes. At the moment a lot of lists force you to a take a big hero so overall numbers will probably drop but I expect.the third book (announced by no release date) to offer a bit more variety in that sense.
Gimli does have 3 attacks if you opt to use his Axes of the Dwarves rule. Or 2, 2 handed master-forged attacks. Legolas gets 3 attacks in the Ravenhill hobbit army list (and fight 7)
Yeah, I think would liked to have seen Gimli go full three attacks - so still three with the Two Hander and, yeah I've looked through the army lists now. Legolas has got a few good ones!
did you just ignore Elessar and Denethor?
Yeah this was me just going through for the very first time, I think my gaze must have been drawn to juicier profiles 😅
When will the evil profiles review come out ?
Good armies tomorrow (in theory) and evil profiles the day after. Should be a week of some painting company 😁
With the nerf to The One Ring, what is Frodo supposed to do, other than hide in a corner to activate the army bonus? He seems incredibly expensive for a model that is worse at fighting than most warriors and has no innate support abilities.
I can't help but think he is over costed on the face of it. I wouldn't want to change the One Ring rules back, but a 20 point drop wouldn't hurt. He's still a good leader for being able to survive and not give away VPs and potentially walk through enemy lines to pick up an objective or similar but you'd probably always want to find the points for someone else or some elves...
@@twotreesgaming Unfortunately it is very unlikely he'll ever be the leader, because he's only a hero of fortitude, so you can't use him to not give away leader points.
I don't think they should have changed how The One Ring works. With the removal of allies, it is a lot harder to abuse. But if they had to change it, they should have given it a new benefit. What it does is good on paper, but (excluding Isildur and Old Bilbo) it is has been given to models that can't utilize it.
Oh yeah that's very true, yeah he is definitely lacking... 🤔
Can someone explain to me what "Duel roll" stands for?
Your duel roll is the dice you roll to determine which player wins a combat and gets to strike the enemy. It is the dice that can be re-rolled with a banner.
@axelskovgaardteglskov8443 I see. The one that resolves ties with fight value? The first opposed roll of a combat?
Yep! And the next roll would be "strikes" from the winner which will roll strength against to defence to determine if wounds are removed.
@@twotreesgaming Thanks for that, I was wondering. I'm a 40k player but I love watching MESBG. I've already painted some LOTR minis as gifts for friends, but never to play.
Honestly I think it's only a matter of time until I make an army for myself. Definitely Men of the West, I think. Elessar is the model I want to paint and use the most.
The reason Gil-Galad is garbage is not "because Last Alliance has a powerful rule" as he's also in the Lindon list with much weaker rules (in fact he's mandatory there) and Lindon is also garbage because GG is garbage. They simply dropped the ball on him in terms of design, he's not worth the 175pts investment and there are no two ways around it. Should've at least given him Strike instead of Resolve (or F10 in exchange for losing B&G and horse/shield). Elrond (and Glorfindel - 3A + horse + LotW) is massively improved because of the new 2-handed fighting rule. Gaining priority with Foresight is a bit better now and Wrath of Bruinen is more reliable/resource efficient with the new Channeling.
That's fair but I don't think he's garbage - the horse is the big thing though. There's a few heroes who can easily beat F9 with a strike but most can't even reach it and crucially he can bring Kings Guard who are sooo good! But he's definitely worse, he was way too good before 😅
He is garbage *at 175pts* and KG being worth taking will depend on the meta (currently not really worth it). Any F7 hero with Strike being a potential danger to the likes of GG costing 175 is a terrible prospect just because he doesn't have Strike and one would feel really dumb/disappointed for taking him in such a situation. Gotta recognize the bad/sloppy design... P.S. he wasn't that good before because of the magic meta (which won't be as weak/dead as people first thought in v2)
I’m a bit peeved that rangers, citadel guard and fountain guard are not the elites for Gondor anymore. Just mediocre changes for small or nonexistent benefits. I guess they want the heroes to carry the game
Yeah I kind of agree - I like the citadel guard but only with Irolas for example, which supports your point about heroes!
Ents were 120 points
Right you are- I should definitely have done this with the other book next to it!
Excited for the new edition but I fear for lothlorien. Can you really have a viable army whose best combat hero is haldir? Even the galadhrim captain lost the horse option!
Im hoping to see a more fighty celeborn in the armies of middle earth book
Rumil and Orophin should help too with the third book as well hopefully!
@twotreesgaming maybe, but (making some assumptions here!) fight 6 with no strike isnt that impressive. Orophin will probably be a must take as the only 3 attack hero.
Separately I wonder if we'll get unarmoured orophin and rumil in the breaking of the fellowship/marchwardens list. I doubt it, but I'd love it!
