    Always like watching you work on the lathe. It looks like fun. I have used both wood and metal back many years ago when I was in school. Liked it then. I don't know where I would put one. Maybe my wife's side of the garage. Don't think so I would be sleeping there. Just happened this week I was working on an old monkey wrench that has a wood handle in bad shape. That was the first thing my son said we need a lathe. Stay safe and healthy my friend. Thanks

    Good idea on repurposing the bedpost. Probably excellent hardwood. The club would be a good chisel mallet. Thanks

    Finial, that's a word and a thing I had never heard of!! That billy club turned out really nice, there definitely is something magical about how an object comes to life on a lathe!! Great episode John, full of good stuff!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!

    That short club is great. Would fit perfectly in a book bag or between the front seats of your car.
    Never know when somebody will get the idea to try and separate you from your personal property.

    I enjoyed the video today my friend. I love working on the lathe. Maybe the club making comes from where you may have to go at nighttime. Dark alleys and such.
    Hope you are doing well and staying safe my friend.

    I definitely need a lathe (or two actually). Space is such an issue. Now I saw a wood lathe you could power with your (corded) drill, now I know that's not gonna be the most perfect lathe but might be nice to get started with and it's very compact.
    Hope you'll have a great weekend! I'm having three days off!

    I love the lathe work mate. You’re so good at it. I had a lathe, just a cheap thing from Bunnings here in Australia, equivalent to your Harbour Freight I assume. Had to sell it as it took up too much room in my little shed. But I bought a 7x16 metal lathe which is more compact, a damn sight heavier, but a lot more useful for my restoration work. Still at times like this I miss my wood lathe. Love your dedication mate. Finishing in the shop at 1am and then still going upstairs to edit the work to post, you’re a sucker for punishment pal.🇦🇺😊

    great video. i’ve been in the market for a lathe for a long time. i took and intro to machine tools class at my local community college and really grew to love the lathe projects. Of course there we only did metal but i really wanna try my hand at a wood lathe. Such an expensive up front cost though. keeping my eyes peeled on the used market though. Great Video!

    You can also get pretty nice finials on the ends of curtail poles.
    I’d be interested in seeing you do two the same, whether you have some sort of duplication jig as some people use for duplicating chair legs etc or whether you lathe the two ends with a central shared area and sever them after the lathe work ?

    When you cut the piece for the transition, the first thought which entered my head was "Scoutcrafter needs a Rose Engine lathe". You would have fun being able to turn shapes even square shapes on such a machine.
    I hope your sister likes one of these. I am not good at predicting a persons reaction to a wood project, flat or turning. Often people say they have no opinion - until you show them something and then they either like it or dislike it.
    Good to have saved the wooden bed post leg. A very nice piece.
    Dave.

    Great thing about reusing turnings is they should always cut nice on the lathe. I'm feeling for ya with the temps. It's only supposed to be 106 here today. But it's a dry heat🥵

    Looks like summer hit there with a BANG to the thermometer! Rain here again and I was going to make up some 50/50 but the rain held off and now I'm inside and the 50/50 stuff is outside.Maybe one day next week. Unc already is putting it to the test. And since we have
    WD-40 I think SC-50/50 would be a legit deal! Nice turnings but I better remain as calm as I can and not get anything that spins. Spinning things tend to fly and fly apart here.
    Happy weekend, John CS and GBWYou!

    • @ScoutCrafter
      @ScoutCrafter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lewie- I have tried at least a dozen penetrating fluids and the 50/50 is my favorite! Plus it’s very economical so you reach for it right away! 😃👍

    • @lewiemcneely9143
      @lewiemcneely9143 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ScoutCrafter I still think we ought to call it SC-50/50! And I sure understand about thinking how our Kroil cans ought to be in a safe somewhere. I can just get it when they run specials. I have a small can of Aerokroil and a waterproofer (from Cheryl's step-dad) and 2 big ones I got last special with silicone in it. I've got the feeling the SC-50/50 WILL bve the go to and penetrant of choice! A-PLUS, John!

    Hi John,
    I have been looking through your videos for a metal lathe tutorial ie the sort of thing to look for and maybe what it needs to do and full demo on the functionality for this type of hobby but I can not find one, do you have one? If not would you consider doing one maybe showing the basics and what to look for in a lathe and roughly how much you would need to spend. I have tried looking on TH-cam but I can not be doing with all the hype and waffle that a lot of people have to say and do before they get on with the job, where as you just seem to get on with it and tell it how people can understand.
    Many thanks Michael
