    Hello Angela! The Porkies are gorgeous not matter what season. The cabin was straight out of a fairy tale book. One thing that is so unique and special about you is your childlike innocence you have in taking pure and simple delight out of the simplest things. Sadly, as adults, we tend to forget that the greatest joy is to be found in the simple things of life. Like the hooting of an owl, or the sound of water rushing in the stream, or seeing the Milky Way Galaxy in a star studded evening with no light pollution to ruin it , or a snowy landscape with the trees covered in glistening snow or finding a snail shell, well, you get the picture. You serve as a reminder to me to find that childlike innocence and relish in the joy that it brings. Thank you for all your time, energy and hard work in bringing us these wonderful adventures of yours. As always, please take the very best of care Angela! Bye for now.

    You said the waterfall is probably prettier without the snow on it. I love seeing waterfalls in the winter/spring with the ice and snow on them. Maybe it is because that is a more unique view than the summer. Thanks for the trip!

      The park supplies the wood in the wintertime and there's usually some left into the spring.

    You did really well hiking all the way to trap falls in all of the ice and snow. I did a 4 night trip in June 2022 at Crosscut and also went to trap falls to fish upstream. Would like to go again.....

    I’m heading in there on Friday. Hope I can find it! I’ve stayed at little union river yurt many times but couldn’t get the reservation this year. Your video has helped me pin down the location. Doesn’t help that a couple maps show slightly different places.

    • @AngelaJoyAdventures
      @AngelaJoyAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      As you may already know, the Boundary Rd is closed from park headquarters.. so you'll need to drive almost to Wakefield and take the road in from that direction.. unless you're snowmobiling of course.

    • @Natter20002
      @Natter20002 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AngelaJoyAdventures No we always walk south on that boundary road from the park office and then turn right into the Union Spring Trail. Should be interesting I'll let you know how it goes hah.

    • @AngelaJoyAdventures
      @AngelaJoyAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll be interested to hear how it went!

      @@AngelaJoyAdventures everything went great. I started the trek in the dark about 8 pm (9 local) and took the River Trail route from boundary road. Very long steep climb but the cabin was extremely easy to find. They added large temporary signs for crosscut. Figured I’d pass that along. We built a snow fort day 2 and my buddies slept in that per tradition but I stayed in the cabin haha.

    I really enjoy your videos. Heading to the UP again this summer; I wonder what cabins up there are good summer backpack cabins. If anyone knows….

    • @AngelaJoyAdventures
      @AngelaJoyAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to find cabins on short notice, but you can check on the DNR website and sometimes they have cancellations.. otherwise I have found a few using hipcamp

    Early winter traveling in newer snow is something most people remember the most, but spring breakup time is just as unique and rewarding, after a long winter and the isolation it brings with it. Not many warm weather hikers experience this time in the woods in Michigan and as the seasons change it is just as rewarding as any other time of the year. Just have to appreciate what is there and how nature establishes a grip in winter but releases it again at this short spring period. Longer daylight, not so cold, plenty of old snow to leave signs of animals who passed that way leaving it's mark in the snow for those astute enough to notice it. As you experience this process more your confidence will grow exponentially. Nice video keep sharing and pack your mind with memories that will last forever.

    Crosscut is my favorite cabin. The water is ok, just filter it. Trust me. Union springs is better, but the creek is ok. Check out the bear claw marks on back of cabin and in screen door.

    Looks like it was a good time out there. I need to get down to the Porkies to do some camping/backpacking. Mouth of the Montreal in the Keweenaw should be opening soon if it's not already. I usually make it in June but this year could be an early one. I heard there is an improved road going to Fish Bay but haven't been exploring, If I plan to camp I kayak in from the Bete Grise channel.
