Struggling...black eye...broke some things. WOOHOO! Welcome to being a sailor. Soon you won't even notice or talk about these things because they just come with the territory! Glad you're safe and KEEP ON TRUCKING! Congrats on the first FISHY! PEACE OUT! Ü
Thank you for sharing the journey! We sure are missing you three but as I sit and tear up so thankful that you are living your life as you choose... my heart is full.
Playing catch up on your videos. Just spent a week at the Oregon coast in rain and wind. So jealous but so glad you made it to the Bahamas and are having fun! Thank you for posting on my birthday-great present.
So great to see you guys out there sailing ... and Anchoring... I have to say that green sail cover really brings out both y’all’s eyes 👀!, ⛵️ living the dream...
To patch sails: get two pieces of sail cloth that will cover the patch on each side. Put a thin coat of 5200 on each patch. Put the patch over the tear on one side. Put the second patch over the tear on the opposite side in exactly the same place! If you have two boards to squeeze the patches until the 5200 sets up put them over the patches on each side and clamp them together. Isopropyl alcohol cleans up 5200 before it sets up. Clean tools and drips with 70% isopropyl alcohol. Patches are permanent !
Glad no one was hurt except the anchor roller. It is fun watching you guys experience the Bahamas. It's been far too long since I was there. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Sewing thing for your hand? ..a sailmakers palm (thats what its called.) Dang, you guys are learning one lesson right after another but your handling them pretty good. I have to say, you guys are unique in the list of new sailors on TH-cam. Very amusing and so fun to watch as you discover new things and try to learn more. A side note. Your solar panels will need a lot more support in a high wind.
Bonjour, vous êtes super et vos vidéos me plaisent beaucoup tant leur contenu que leur forme et leur réalisation. Merci beaucoup pour le partage.... Une caresse pour votre compagnon à 4 pattes .... Ciao Jef
LOL I have a German Shepherd and I had fortunately heard about dogs and going. He's got it down pat now. All I have to do is point and command and if he needs to he does. We aren't on the water yet but he does it no matter where we are. If he doesn't need to he has this really absurd smile he gets. Center of the world rock is tiny, but if you hit it, it truly is the center of your world.
it indeed is bent! BUT since Mantis is such a great company to work with, they are sending us over the new part. currently just waiting for it to clear customs! so happy!
Happy birthday Beau's yesterday was my birthday so happy for y'all made it to the Bahamas great time of the year to be there when it's cold up north I'm in Florida so I'm enjoying the weather beautiful water down there I love it have fun be safe
Glad to see you made it through that night with only minor damage. I like your spirit. Last year I spent a few days at Great Sale and found some lobsters along the southern half of the inside rock wall. You skipped some good anchorages in that part of the Abacos, Pensacola Cay and Nunjack Cay were 2 of my favorites.
Man, wish we would have know that about great sale! We are trying to hit as many of these islands, but the winter winds have got us zigzagging all over for shelter.
Holy crap you guys had a rough crossing! This is the worst Christmas weather we have had in years; the price we pay for a quiet hurricane season, so we cannot complain. I am following you on Instagram so I know you are safe!
Congrats on the crossing!! Been following you and the Uma crew having fun! FYI I highly suggest you think about picking up one or two portable, waterproof, handheld VHF radios. You can have one on the dink when you go to shore and keep a backup on board. They also are useful for having on a secondary channel when sailing, having stashed in a bailout bag, or handy to borrow to Jim or another boat when they have VHF issues.
Congrats guys on your first crossing and first fish. Happy belated birthday Beau. You could put your phone in a bucket and pull it up the mast 😉 happy New Year to you three and your followers. Thanks and best from HKG 🇭🇰
Be careful if you buy, there are different packages with different threads. Get the one you need. I love mine, it's the first thing that goes on the new boat.
Woo-Hoo, yall are doing fine. Well, as for me, that rolly anchoring spot would have killed me. I hate rolling at anchor. I cant sleep at all. You might need a Gaff to get those big fish on board. Handling the rod in the middle puts lots of stress on the tip and it will break eventually. The rod is designed to be bent by the handle so not to snap the rod in half. Ask me how I know? Yall look comfortable out there getting all that experience. My hats off to yall.
Too late now but we just pulled Into the harbor at west end and tied up right In front of customs in the wee hours of the morning. Sharks love sting rays so if u see one swimming for its life might be a good time to get out of the water. Be cool 😎 have fun
You're doing great....taking sailing life's initiations in stride....your beautiful love for each other will get you through anything and make all the treasures along your way blissful to share Infinite Blessings
Your main sail is out of the track , tie some hoops out of rope around the mast to save it and better set , keep going , dingy on deck adds speed , reading those clouds you have some wind and rain on way , all’s good sailing , thanks
Congrats on your passage. You all need to get a fish guide book that way you will know what you are eating. And some fish are poison to touch in certain areas. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. : ) peace ps: I just watched a video on how to fix the anchor issue w/coral and rocks if I can find it I'll send it over.Congrats on your first passage.
I found the video, Sailing Ocean Fox 's channel and its the Las Palmas Express boat life #36 at 12:00 it starts. I hope this is what you needed to fix the issue. : ) peace and Happy New Year
WELL WE JUST WATCHED 30 VIDEOS IN A ROW. LOVE YOU GUYS AND WE WILL COSS OATHS SOME DAY. GREAT VIDEOS AND LOVE YOU BOTH. / TERRY & ASHLEY S/V ANAM CARA1 HALIFAX NS CANADA
Any Sea illin when thing started rockin & rollin or did you guys take precautions to avoid sea sickness? It seems like it could cause a real situation, if you both started illin @ the same time!? Congratulations on making your dreams come to fruition, very inspirational!! Be well & thanx for the sharing.
no seasickness as of yet! but the only times we have felt queezy is when we are down below and its rolling. so either ginger candy or popping out into the cockpit cures it right up. Oona, our furry babe, hasn't experienced any either! she loves being in the cockpit!
Put your phone in a small weighted bag and raise it up the mast. You can use the line you put the flag on or one that goes all the way to the top of the mast.
Keep up the good work Guys if you need WiFi go by moms house on Treasure its free there...Hows the elec engine running might want to drop me a line on the battery's we had a mishap here at the house building the 4th set stay below 51 volts or they can get ugly...
Dang! We just left treasure 😫 we are in great guana now! The engine has been doing great, the couple times weve used it. Checked the batteries a week ago, all seem great! Will email ya!
I know it will not make you feel any better.....but the weather in all South Florida has been horrible for days. It didn't really matter where you were...it was going to be uncomfortable in a boat.
Are both painters tied to the dinghy independently? It's important that they are, and tie to two different points. The rays like to jump out of the water around sunset. Was that when yours was?
Hi. How is the electric propulsion performing and how long does it take to recharge the batteries at sea? Sorry if you have already answered that question but I have not seen it. Very impressive. Thank you.
Hey there!! It’s all conditional really. But the motor has been working great, although we don’t use it often. So it depends on how much electricity we burn through (computers, appliances and such) and the weather conditions for recharging. But so far we haven’t had to go without. We plan on making a more detail video about this prob once we get through the Bahamas and gather more data! Thanks for asking the questions! We will hope to answer them in more depth soon!
Sailing Saoirse Thank you. It’s important for the environment. I would like to get a boat but I won’t get one without electric propulsion. It’s great what you are doing. I hope to follow and do the same:)
The fun of learning things on a boat! Try lock pliers to hold the needle and push through the sail, until you obtain a sail palm. Keep having a positive attitude it’s working. Take care,
Great beginning sailors. May I suggest you remove what looks like the remains of an auto-pilot on your wheel or at least tape up the share edges. When you get thrown around in the cockpit, it looks very dangerous
Hmmm....Perhaps the spam filter was tripped? EDIT: Then I'll try this again without the link... _I guess nobody ever told you guys about an anchor bridle/snubber?_ _You NEVER hang off your anchor roller, unless to stop for lunch in calm seas. I know you guys are noobs, but you guys really need to do a bit more research._
Sorry for coming off a bit rash. I just wanna see you guys to be successful. My next concern would be your current solar panel mount set up. From what I can see, those large panels are begging to be torn from their (what I would consider inadequate) mounts in a high wind/sea state condition. Perhaps I missed something, and the system allows for stowage in foul weather conditions?
we appreciate that! we have already experienced 40 knot gusts and they didn't budge. we are able to completely remove them for anything we feel uncomfortable with.
You never told us how you got the black eye! I plan to head to the Abacos in Feb. Are you staying in the Abacos or going south? You can click on my face at the left to check out my litle chanel. Stay safe and enjoy your trip!

Hey pippin!! Thanks for joining the PARTY 🎉
Thank you for sharing the journey! We sure are missing you three but as I sit and tear up so thankful that you are living your life as you choose... my heart is full.
You guys have great attitudes! Cruising can be trying at times and it doesn’t seem to get you down.
Thanks Bill! we are definitely trying to not let the little or big things get in our way! just have to learn and move forward!
So I am finally watching the Bahama episodes on my PC screen!
So much better than a phone!

Not a lot of green covers out here...thank goodness these fell out of the sky for us!! 😜

Your doing it! Thanks for the awesome update.

Such a wonderful area to sail !! Al the best for 2019 !!!
Happy New Year guys!
Love how you positioned your solar panels so that they can be angled to catch much more sun.
Thank you!!
When Beau pulled the anchor from the coral, looked like you've bent the tip of your anchor as well, hope you can get repairs done fairly easily. 👍👍🇦🇺
it indeed is bent! BUT since Mantis is such a great company to work with, they are sending us over the new part. currently just waiting for it to clear customs! so happy!
JUST FOUND YOU TWO ! REALLY CONNECTED WITH YOUR SAILING ! SUBSCRIBED.

One trick to make hand sewing easier is to run the needle occasionally through your hair.

Yes!! Lesson learned here on that! Dan and Kika brought a handheld over for us, so we have one now. 🙌
Congrats guys on your first crossing and first fish. Happy belated birthday Beau. You could put your phone in a bucket and pull it up the mast 😉 happy New Year to you three and your followers. Thanks and best from HKG 🇭🇰

what is the rest of your route? maybe we will run into each other :)
You will sometimes see the bottom in the Bahamas while in 80 feet of water. It sometimes has 300 feet of visibility.

HEY GUYS!! well thank you for binge watching :) where are you guys located?!
Good work! You seemed to have so different weather than UMA. They did 8-9 knots most of their sail. Have a great time.

Broade reaches and sunny beaches to you
Why are there no battens in your mainsail? I thought this before but finally confirmed it during your downwind leg.
Somehow they worked their way out of the sail during this west end night...we believe. 😫

Do you guys have an anchor snubber for your anchor chain?
We do now....
Hi Beau, please be careful of the sun on your head and body, it is not your skin’s friend😉
I’ve had decent luck with using my phone as a hotspot and running the phone up a flag halyard in a wet bag.
we've gotta do that the next time!
nice
Hey guys reach out to Lady K sailing on TH-cam they have a sale right machine on board and they're in your general area
