    Another good thing about the *Road Flare* is that after it's lit it can be extinguished (by sticking it in a pile of dirt), and re-ignited if necessary. Great video !

    This is one of the most complete fire classes I've seen in a single video. I will say I have seen and known about 95% of this information. For you to have taken this BASIC info and weave it into this video that teaches what you need, why you need it, and how and where to keep and use it. Adding the tech. knowledge about fire and fire starting shows just how knowledgeable you are. The term MASTERY of FIRE and the ability to teach and use it does not do you justice. This should be required material for anyone venturing outside the home. Thank you for putting this together and I look forward to the next installment. You set the bar with this video!

    Hey Blacky!
    I celebrate this video so much.
    Finally someone explains properly why you make the tinder small.
    98% only say: "Then there is a larger surface and more oxygen can get in!" Although this is physically correct, it is only relevant for combustion, not for ignition. It's primarily just about passing on the ignition energy to the tinder. And this works best when the tinder is bone dry and as fine as possible.
    Thanks 🤝 a lot for this video! 👏👏👏

    A true Masterclass of the Masterwoodsman Fire Kit demonstration "par excellence", made to look simple, practical, and logical enough for all to fully understand, although, a simple thumbs up cannot do this wonderful presentation true justice...! Thank you Blackie...!

    Thanks, Blackie, I loved the video and it helped to remind me what I need to add to my kit. One thing I always keep in my match safe is the birthday trick candles that cannot be blown out, which helps on a windy day. Usually, 1 or 2 in the safe with the rest matches.

    Thank you for this content. I really enjoyed the class. This is what I use TH-cam for.
    My one recommendation is the white board was a little difficult to see. Maybe a bigger erase board or move the camera closer. Although would be difficult to capture the contents on the table.
    Other then that great topic and looking forward to more of these classes.

    Thank you so much for this Video. This Silver Wolf needed this information.
    This is a video I needed to have it explained in the nitty gritty of fire starting.... it's good to know to be able to start a fire on the first try, but it is a very important issue knowing "what, where, when and why" a fire starts in the first place.

    Great video! I would be interested in your thoughts on a FIRE PISTON. I read about them over 60 years ago in elementary school library period. Natives made them from bamboo and lubricated them with animal fat. I've been considering buying a modern one and practicing with it.

    I pretyy much use the exact system. I would include pieces of inner tube/ranger bands. They make a great flame extender of which are water proof. I also put in a square of aluminum foil. This can prevent moisture from drawing up and snuffing your flame.

    Nice car kit. I would also have one of those pre wrapped bundles of oak wood that you see at the stores on occasion, they are like 6 med sized split logs that way you even have a small bundle of wood to get you started, that way all you may really need to come of with is some twigs/ stick since you already have some tinder

  • @duanerogers1166

    Blackie have you ever gathered the knots where branches come out on pine trees that are laying on then ground with the tree in partial decay normally the pine pitch will build up there and when the tree dies you can collect these and when they are burned creates a bright hot fire

    When you gave the example of being in boat and boat flips over and you’re cold and shivering, that reminded me of the movie Alec Baldwin and the guy that played in the silence of the Lambs, there’re in the plane the they run into some birds and one of the birds flies into motor causing them to go down into water. Well, they’re cold and shivering, Alec Baldwin lights a flair and starts fire. I wished I could remember the name of movie. They and up fighting a 🐻. Classic movie. I think I’ll heed your advice and make me a fire kit for my pocket, like medicine bottle or something. Put my some cotton balls, fat wood and some other stuff. Thxz for the idea. ⛺️ 🥾 🎒🥽 🔪🪢🪵🔦🪓

    The bonus "C" is redundancy. Good job on this first chapter video. I look forward to the next ones, and to the actual book. Will this be in print or video format? Either would be worthwhile.

    Exactly you can take a Bic lighter out of a Maytag washer and in a few minutes, blowing on it , get the Flint dry again your in business.

  • @derekneumann
    @derekneumann ปีที่แล้ว

    Take a cardboard dozen egg container, take cotton balls impregnated with petroleum jelly, add some dryer lint to the sticky cotton balls, cram a few into each egg section, add some fine fatwood shavings via cheese grater, some bulk magnesium shavings from Amazon, pour some paraffin wax over each section. Let dry, cut apart. Cheap as hell.

    can you make your own fat wood by soaking it in kerosene?

    • @judiehavard4903
      @judiehavard4903 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The bulk of the kerosene will dissipate. The smell with that is bad. Fat lighter wood doesn't have a strong obnoxious smell. Fat lighter wood doesn't run the possibility to combust in your kit or pocket.
