Thank you very much for explaining the hive. I only saw them assembled and never understood the inside workings. I thought the outside shell was the wall of the super and couldn't figure out how one would be able to go into a hive when it's been propolized. Now I get it. It's like a double wall protection from the wind and elements.
I'm now in the process of building all the different kinds of beehives (like a collection). This was so interesting.
Plans anywhere? I could adapt this for Langstroth hives now that I see how it's done.

We have 7 of your WBC hives and despite being nearly 20 years old and left unpainted they still look wonderful. Still seems the right choice of hive for our very exposed, wet and windy site in the North of England.

Thank you for your comment- they really are lovely hives and definitely good for windy or exposed climates.

I'm assuming the WBC hive would be better than the National hive for wintering in our British climate, because of the double layer of wood. Our is there another one you can suggest?

Some prefer WBC, some National. the Natioanl is more practical but certainly there is evidence to suggest the WBC is better in our colder climate

They are just lifts with porches - just stored in the shop

What type of frame spacers are you saying? I cannot be certain.

castle-late-ted ? Not familiar with that type of frame spacing. Please explain. Thank you.

The frames in the supers fit in castellations. These are metal strips (that look like the castellations on a castle) that slot into the super walls.

    I live in Arkansas USA.
What would this kind of hive cost?
    I like the concept.
    Cheers

This hive in the flat costs £295 (ex VAT). Shipping to the US would be approx £100
