- Hey Horse Lovers! Today was a very HOT & HUMID DAY at Free Spirit Equestrian! Taking care of all of the horses and keeping them cool was exhausting but also SUPER FUN! Luckily, we had some good ideas to keep the horses happy, stimulated, and COOLED OFF. In this video we will show you are mini pool party and everything we did! This video is super cute, relaxing, silly, and entertaining. I really hope you enjoy watching our hot summer day here in Michigan and getting to know our horse herd. The interesting thing about the seriousness of your heat warnings is Secretariat ran the Belmont Stakes in 90 degree weather with 100% humidity. People forget how hot it was. There was a violent thunderstorm 1 hour after the race. He set a track, Belmont Stakes, US and World dirt record at 1 1/2 miles, a distance most racehorses cannot do in ideal weather, at a sprinter's pace. Sham didn't break his leg in the Belmont but became lame during a practice at Belmont 3 weeks later. Sham was overcome by sprinting in the oppressive heat, trying to keep up with Secretariat. At the end of the race, Secretariat was only sweating where the girth was touching him and a little on his thick neck. My horse, a double Secretariat descendant is smart enough to hang out under shade trees in this weather. She has a 2.5-week-old colt that is a triple Secretariat descendant.
Cant believe how much Ariel has changed. She is so curious and not a shy and standoffish as she was. Loved her being the First one to check out the unicorn sprinkler. Love all your babies so much.
Little Mermaid 🧜♀️ was🎉🎉🎉🎉 so brave to be around the " 🐴 " sprinkler 😂❤❤ I love her colors ❤❤ I was waiting😮 for her or Ezzie to get into the pool Maybe next time 😅 The two are just a bit shorter than Beauty 😮. THANK YOU FOR LETTING THE HERD WATCH THIS ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
My horse loved swimming in the lake(Ontario) and I'd splash him, he'd get his front legs splashing me back. I took him in every day in the summer heat. It was his favorite thing to do. I still miss him. Rip Manchey(Comanche), run in those fields of sweet clover!

You are always thinking of your horses welfare, Shae. Four years ago, where I am in Australia, we had terrible bushfires in summer. The sky was black for a week with ash and debris. In the middle of this time, our local horse racing association held its annual races on Boxing Day, December 26. It was 38 degrees centigrade and we could hardly breathe outside. I was so concerned about the race horses, I rang and complained to the organisers. They just laughed at me. The races went ahead as I couldn't get animal authorities to investigate. I didn't make any enquiries after the races. I would have been too devastated if any horse had collapsed. Australia does not have a good record on horse or any animal welfare, except for the many individual animal lovers.
Shae is really educating us. I used to take me horse out riding in ALL weather, every day when I could and never thought about him in regards to the heat though at times I didn't go out as it was just too hot for me. I've never heard of an Aussie worrying about riding in the heat. I'm just so blown away that I just never thought about all that as of cause we grew up having horse racing in the summer heat so thought like horses were immune to it more than us. I did used to take my horse though swimming in the river when it was hot and splashing around in there with him. We swam together most days in Summer.
He's absolutely elevated my consciousness and understanding what a horse is. How to take care of a horse. How to stimulate a horse had a really connect with the spirit of the horse. You are such a great example. You're so feminine and strong and beautiful. Yet you do all your chores. Your Renaissance woman... And I've been a hairdresser for 50 years. I've known a lot of women and you are a standout. Thank you Shay for just being yourself❤

I had two appy's that just LOVED water and would play endlessly on hot days. This really made me smile and my heart ache, I miss them so much.

Lucky for Miss Unicorn the horses were not Donkeys. Once down, that sweet sprinkler girl would have been toast, I think? The girls were so polite checking her out.
Oh. My. Goodness. I am laughing so hard I cannot breathe. Patricia the Unicorn Horse Sprinkler is beyond hilarious. And watching you drag her into the corral to "the girls" while they watched was a hoot. Wonder why "the boys" didn't like the pool as much as Beauty & the yearlings? I was surprised because when you're out on the trail they seem to love going right into streams & pawing around in the water. I haven't laughed this hard in MONTHS. I'm recovering from a surgery I had two months ago so smiling has been at a minimum. So...thank you for the laughter!! I just backed the video up because I have to watch Patricia again. BYW - love your sundress.
I wasn’t surprised the horses didn’t go in the pool. I hoped they would’ve liked Patricia. Oh well you tried. It was fun to watch! Stay cool!

Beauty was a little suspicious of "Patricia"...She was like...what is that thing and don't let it near my babies at first. Ezzie it was like...paw it paw it...make it jump....Ariel is most definitely a Mermaid! She loves the hose and her bum soaked... What a fun day and a great way to keep cool.

Weather like Shae describes is uncomfortable with most animals, including humans. High heat with high humidity can be deadly. A hot day is great for “water play”.

I know everyone teaches differently but I watched a video the other day and the trainer tied a rope around a horse’s back pastern then lunged her. I just shuddered.

It's not just your horses. I had the same pool for my grandkids and they didn't last long either! I think the horses actually are more gentle with it 🤣

Ariel's become SO confident and i know that's all your hard work! she was raised well, her and Ezzy ❤ interesting too that Ezzy was running from the spray when it was just her but when she saw ariel playing with the hose, she wanted to play also. i love that 🥰🥰

What a fun water play day! The horses were curious and entertained. I could tell the ladies were more intrigued with all the water pampering and the guys were all about the the treats. You take such good care of your animals. Cute to see Penelope out enjoying her treat too.

Maybe they couldn’t tell there was a bottom to the pool (were afraid it was a deep hole). Maybe put a few rocks in it? I don’t know what a horse’s depth perception is like. This was a fun video, Shae!!!
21:55 if someone said that Ariel would be the brave one w/ the unicorn when you first brought her home, nobody would believe it!! This just proves all the work you put into her, and how you can work with a horse that's been through trauma and end up with the best horse EVER!!!
