  • Draw pegging or draw boring is one of the most magical parts of timber framing. I just love the simplicity of it and how effective it is. Knowing that buildings have been standing for centuries just like this shows it's got a good track record of keeping those joints nice and tight!

    Can’t decide which I’ve been more excited for. The birth of my first child or the assembly of this workshop!!!

    Great progress Tim. I haven’t been in my workshop for quite a while as I have lost my motivation but watching you and your enthusiasm again may tempt me out there tomorrow. Andy U.K.

    Interesting little detail of the big build. A spoke shave would be ideal for this, I reckon you'd whittle through them in no time the old fashioned way.

    When I was 17-ish, I cut a whole bunch of these, which took forever, and made them from what looks like firewood. I didnt know anyone used "milled" lumber. (lol).

    Thanks for this. Very timely, I need to make 40 some-odd pegs for a dining table build and don't want to buy dowels.

    Looking forward to seeing how your make do crane works out 🤘 I got my cartlodge frame up just before Xmas but my video won't be uploaded for another couple of weeks! Make sure you brace each side before you go and have a cup of tea, the whole back side fell down on mine at tea break! Didn't catch it on film though 🤭

    This is helpful. What is the size on the drill bit?

    • @0044512
      @0044512 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was about to ask the same question. The pricker I got needs a 19mm hole in the mortise as it's 18mm itself, so assume you drill 19mm holes then and use a tapered peg that goes out to 19mm in the end?

    Sometimes ya just need a drawknife .... or something like it but a sharp knife in the Bowie class might just do the trick...

    Just wondering if you could push the pegs through a die by mounting it on a hydraulic log splitter, obviously if you need to make quite a lot. I'm suggesting hydraulic for control.

      Yeah lots bash them through a drilled steel plate which looks quite effective.

    You need WAY less teeth for resawing those boards on the bandsaw. Get a blade with the least teeth and deepest gullets you can find. You only want 3-6 teeth in the wood at a time.

  • @Musicpins
    @Musicpins 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    yeah this is not the kind of thing you wanna buy, split pegs and dowels are just the best of all worlds.

    The hole peg hole off set being due to pulling the joint tight is not true. The idea of off setting the hole is so as the timber drys the joint stays bearing on the tennon saddle and doesn't shrink and end up bearing the weight through the peg. It does pull things tight and look nice but that is not the off sets primary job.
    Jelous on the workshop by the way nice job! And also loved the lead videos that guy had skills!
