A funny thing happened this past Sunday. Stir crazy from the long winter, Alex and I decided that we should try and go for a skate in some of the parkades in downtown Calgary. We quickly learned that the parkades were unskatable. Too wet and slippery to safely skate. The parkades lead into the network of +15s. +15s, given the name because they are 15 feet above the street level, connect all the downtown office buildings. Before we knew it. We were skating for many city blocks from one building to the next. One wrong turn and we ended up in The Core shopping mall.
I must admit, I am not proud that I likely startled innocent people and broke some laws but here it is. I hope you can enjoy the skating.
Welcome to the Shop Task TH-cam channel. Shop Task is your neighbourhood inline skating shop. We have locations in Calgary, Vancouver, Seattle and Toronto. Our goal is to make inline skating more popular.
My name is Shaun Unwin. I am the curator of the Shop Task TH-cam channel and manager of Shop Task YYC, the inline skate shop in Calgary. I am a lifelong skater with multiple certifications as a skate instructor through SkateIA. Please contact me with any questions by email shaun@shop-task.com or come see me at the shop goo.gl/h3pH8W

Is it easier/harder on the big wheels and frame compared to a standard 80mm setup

    • @FlowSkate
      @FlowSkate  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I perfer the feeling of a heel roll on a longer frame but I can definitely hold the heel roll better on a standard 80. The wheels are closer to your foot on the 80 so it seems to be a bit easier.

Imagine a group of 5 or 6 people skating around in a mall at peak hours.
Now also imagine unconfident skaters that cant brake. Im sure you can see how that could be a hazard.
Its not as if there is a screening process where they only allow confident skaters in groups of 3 or less at off peak hours.
      Its totally reasonable.
I always keep an eye out for newly built shopping centres and skate them before they put up the signage.

epic jump at the end there too, I'm thinking the Wizard frame's length must make it so much easier to land those too. I'm so jealous of your skating environment! I'm in the sticks, gotta travel miles to find good places to skate.. But it's so worth it. Love the video.

unbelievable!!! Reminds me of the contactless credit/debit card adds they ran here in the UK on network TV a few years back where a man on a never-ending waterslide bought all his stuff on the way down.... but Shaun, you forgot to collect your items on the way through! ====EPIC===

On ice you need a lot of balance and precision just because of the lack of friction, inline skates have so much traction and you can get away with alot of tricky moves

Level 3? More like “Level holy f*#k my brain melted to how awesome that was!” Very jealous you got to ride around there without security on your tail. I work in the underground in downtown Toronto, which is very similar to that area. Pinto Pony shredded the place in a couple vids and since watching those I’ve really wanted to do the same. There are smooth floors, ramps, stairs and a ton of rails and odd ledges. On top of that, they connect to the Eaton centre. Oh to dream of giving that area a roll.

I went skating outside today and everything felt so rough compared to the smooth tiles.

I grew up in Downtown Toronto...anyway...when blading was super big in the mid 90's we used to do a night skate in downtown Toronto. It was a blast. One time we did take a chance and enter the Eaton Center at one end and skate at blazing speeds to the other end. It was magical. The smooth floors were heavenly. Even a few stairs to jump. We never got caught. We were in and out before security even noticed. lol
Also in Toronto on Yonge st north of Eglinton there is a Sporting Life store...well back in the 90's there was a small rollerblading shop across the street called Ready To Roll. It was great and the organized a skate night in the winter months for us to skate on the 5 level of the Sky Dome. It was a smooth oval surface on the concession area. It was a blast. There was also a gym in the Dome that allowed you to jog around the same floor. I wonder if it's still there and if they would let you skate?
Take care. I'm living in Taiwan now and still skating at 61 and having a blast.

The double heel wheely was sick. Your feet were parallel and in no scissor. This can easily cause falling over backwards - the worst case scenario of an inline skater. I will try this move next time.
