As a viewer who doesnt keep up with knife releases, brands, gear, etc. this is the way i discover new things. Obviously most of the stuff is sold out when i search but i always enjoy seeing items being shown.

Maybe start inviting guests for EDC weekly, I'm sure that could bring a whole new life to the show. It would be you and another person talking about your weeks edc and then talking about the submissions. The guests could be your subs or people from discord or other youtubers that'd want to take part in that show.

Keep ‘em coming! I love seeing what others carry in their pockets, what tools get them through the day old or new etc. Every carry has a story and purpose behind it and it never gets old or repetitive!

I have quite a bit to say here!
First, I appreciate your integrity in slowing down your content t in order to maintain the quality. I love BladeHQ’s TH-cam channel, but no one can deny that for the last few years they’ve hit several weak spots in their content because the hosts visibly weren’t feeling it. This is the World Wide Web. There’s a theoretical infinity of control t out there already. No need to rush it just because people may get impatient.
Second, it’s funny to hear that a lot of people gripe about unused fancy EDC set-ups. I’ve never been tasteless enough to gripe about it on social media, but I will definitely cuss at the screen on my phone privately when looking at these immaculate thousand-dollar pocket dumps. However, I use my gear for anything and everything that I feel my tools can withstand, and none of them really look all that beat up. My Izula is missing some coating, my Victorinox is a little scuffed, my Case Barlow has dings on the bolster where I dropped it on concrete, and my Spyderco Dfly 2 has some clay stuck in the handle texturing. My PowerPint just has a little wiggle, which a photo wouldn’t show off. Nothing that would make for a dramatic photo. But what amuses me the most about all of this is that EDC always falls back on some sense of vanity. If it isn’t vanity in the form of mint pristine gear worth hundreds (or thousands) of dollars, it’s vanity over how beat up the gear looks. 🤷‍♂️
For the Zippo falling out of the pocket, just throw it in a small drawstring bag that you keep in your pocket. A fabric bag won’t fall out of your pocket nearly as easily as the slick texture of a Zippo.

I hope this helps you, Taylor. EDC needs for everybody are cyclical. Years ago, I was honestly a minimalist with my EDC-- more "office clothes/environment." Since then, I've experienced a lifestyle change and am now wearing more cargo pants and my "office" is "outside" (thank God). So while a few years ago I wasn't interested in EDC very, I'm now bingeing all your "pocket organizer videos" because of all the stuff I now carry and use regularly. I know it can get monotonous, but your videos have real value... I hope you keep on going, just so long as doing "EDC stuff" doesn't make you wanna hurl-- been there, done that. Lol!

    Another great episode👍
Personally, ive always found your channel fresh and entertaining. But i can also understand how easy it can be to run out of ideas for EDC-Weekly themes.
One humble suggestion, is maybe do an EDC-Weekly-Alphabet theme. Example would be "N" for nature, so submit your edc nature shots. "J" for job, and submit the tools you use at work, etc. Theres at least 26 new episodes right there 😁👍

I EDC fixed blades in the right front pocket. IMO - JouFuu leather makes the best pocket sheath’s on the market.
The Izula 2 was my first EDC fixed blade. For years I used the factory sheath. I made a cobra braid lanyard for the end of the sheath then connected it to a belt loop with a swivel snap. The knife rode tip up in the pocket and I had to take knife and sheath out of the pocket to unsheathe the knife. The Izula 2 was completely concealed.

Regarding the lack of "used and abused" carry submissions. It is very possible that the persona of someone that actually uses and abuses their gear are less likely to share their carry on social media - basically just a different kind of viewer that is less likely to engage than those that you find flooding your inbox with a "bougie" carry, for example.
Of course I don't have all the stats you do from the Discord, IG, YT, ... to validate my theory :)

    • @FreedomFox1
      @FreedomFox1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I get the impression that most submissions are from white collar guys who view gear as fashion accessories… not that there’s anything wrong with that!

I've got that Kershaw, and I can tell you that thing is a workhorse! I abuse the hell out of it, and the only damage it's taken, is just the tiniest bit of the tip when I used it as a chisel to dig out a quartz vein. Since then I have reshaped it to a drop point.

Hey man. I just want to say that I've gotten some pretty sick gear because of you and have learned quite a bit about knives. Even with my experience in the military world. You have provided some complete insight on some sick setups. My stuff usually goes through some decent abuse in it's lifetime.

American-made Ti framelocks are out of my wheelhouse, but for the other folks looking for "complete my carry" suggestions:
Matt: I'd highly recommend a Rogan USA RPT Pro. I've carried Rogan pocket tools (RPT) for a few years now, and they're just damn good tools. Stainless vs Titanium, so a bit on the heavier side, but durable AF, and Mike also started sourcing some killer kydex sheaths for easy belt / pocket carry.
CS Skates: they don't offer clip-on sheaths specifically, but the pocket sheaths from KnivesShipFree are an AMAZING value. I have an older model Pocono that I've used for my BGM Kwaiken since I got it back in 2019, and the sheath is almost as much of a tank as the knife!
Miya: another fixed-blade maker that I'd HIGHLY recommend is (naturally) BGM Knives. John's got a bunch of different models, and is open to doing one-off modified versions of those base models, all the way up to full customs. My personal JV-3 Kwaiken is in 3V, and is an absolute beast. It's 3/16" blade stock, so not ideal for slicing an apple (John does offer thinner blade stocks) but I'd trust that knife to go through a car door if I needed it to.

The zippo I fit in my WATCH POCKET (no, it's not a 5th pocket) on my jeans, it fits nicely in there with the Benchmade proper right next to it.

The best deep carry setup for my Izula 2 is an IWB appendix carry setup for me; I use a long piece of old coat hanger bent through the eye holes in the sheath and then made into a custom clip to go under my belt. It takes a bit to get the angle right but once you do it sits nicely and you can draw with the large hole in the handle. Hope that helps.

I love this video! I’m far more interested in what gear stands the test of time rather than what’s new and flashy! Personally, I bought a Western W84 fixed blade back in 1985 for $17 and it’s still the only knife I use. I live in farm county and that knife has been on my belt for almost 40 years.

For a pry tool I cut down a 5/16 wrench that I had laying around and sharpen the edge of the cut down to a pry tool the 5/16 I use everyday at work so I still have a 5/16 ring that I can use in case of emergency to tighten down those small bolts while still having a pry tool on the other end

Great video as normal! I'm glad to see that you're getting back to what you want to do and go over and to make yourself happy with it!
I have a lot of catching up to do as I've been going through a lot this last year and am trying to find myself again. I've not been watching constantly like I used to or doing much of the things I used to do and will hopefully be getting back too!
As always, have a great one, everybody!

I believe neck knife style carry is a hugely underrated method of small fixed blad carry. It's invisible, keeps a full tang fixed blade out of your pocket and off your belt, and can be deployed and resheathed one handed. Try it for a month and see what you think.

Good show. You sold me on getting a separate prybar in my mix. Will get my EDC up for everyone to laugh at, promise. (I'm one of the "everything looks new" comments, but most of what I have is all new now as I've been replacing everything over the last few months. The Pocket Dump videos have been my favorite, gave me a better grasp on what I needed to add/upgrade.)

This is awesome! I wish I'd have seen the call for EDCs. I abuse the shit out of my gear on the daily. I love seeing well used gear. If you want to know how good a product REALLY is... Find someone that goes HAM on their things.
I completely agree with you on the weeklys. It goes for just about everyone;the quality of whatever you make/produce takes a big hit if you're not passionate about it. When you get to that place where it's boring then you gotta step back and reevaluate. Around 2016-15 the space BLEW UP. Everyone was into it (understandably, lol, we all love new stuff) and the call for new products was answered by thousands of people... Big companies and dudes making stuff out of their garage. After a while it becomes difficult to find new products that haven't been done 100x before. I am definitely not part of the majority that have really sexy gear, safe queens, etc...Gucci shit. I'm not talking down to that AT ALL. I'm not opposed to spending big money on stuff but whatever the price I'm going to use it. My first expensive knife was an anniversary gift from my wife, a Norseman. I carried it daily for 4 years as a welder and residential contactor. So, yeah man... I'd love to see the weekly like you're explaining.

I have a different edc for work is different then for home. I work underground at a mine. At work lots of my gear gets broken or lost. I lost my pens, carbide scribe, pen screwdriver, knife and note pad all at once when they fell out of my front pocket into an ore chute. I do have these one set of pliers I’ve carried for probably 4 years. Just a set of 8” channel locks. I swear I could toss them into a waste pass and they’d show up the next day in my locker.

Good prybar option - buy extra Leatherman flat head bits for your Skeletool ($5). With the extra carry slot in the Skeletool you can be pretty hard on those bits knowing you have a replacement ready to go if you snap one. They aren't the biggest, but they will probably get the job done without having to carry another dedicated tool.

It's funny to see how most of the photos submitted had like a weird vintage filter to make the used EDC look more rustic.
It's also nice too see what things are actually being used, because I feel that there's EDC equipment that even though they were made for a purpose, they will still never be used.

For preventing Zippos from floating around in the pocket, get a silicone vape band, like the ones people use to decorate their vape tanks. It's grippy enough to hold the lighter in place, and it provides and extremely recognizable surface for your fingers.

I used to carry a Leatherman Wave when at work. I snapped the “medium screw driver” as they call it using it as a pry bar. It looks like a pry bar to me. I love watching your TH-cam channel I have been a member of the channel before you made this your main job. Great video. Thank you for showing a Timex expedition Scout. Far too much I have seen a Seiko , Hamilton kaki , dive watches that cost too much. For people like me who can't afford the Seiko 007, or the citizen promaster dive watch, it is nice to see budget friendly gear. What do you recommend bag wise backpack leather messenger bag for office? Would you mind doing an work edc series? Will do fo a series with Jeremy sears?

    • @chefboiarby304
      @chefboiarby304 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Although you may be able to do a little bit better in terms of design and materials in other places, the Elementum seems to still be a top dog in the budget realm due to the excellent construction as well as fit and finish. While not the insane value it once had, Civivi is still doing very well in the budget area although it is starting to become more of a higher price tier with Sencut starting to take Civivi's original place.

Why don't you talk about how to use the edc in the modern world. I do maintenance and a guy died and I inherited his Leatherman wave. It has helped me get out of locked rooms, a broken gate when others were locked in. My edc is so practical flashlight and Leatherman. So it is not about how pretty, but how practical. Love the show. I personally love EDC featuring pew pews (firearms). My EDC has definitely been well used but my camera skills are terrible. I don't complain about safe queens. Though my budget for gear is lower that most of what is featured, so i do roll my eyes to $500 knives n such. Although, I'm a cowboy so my average hat n boots already are more than most knives. I love most of what you put out Taylor. Don't hate on the pew pews. I love Idaho n Utah law so that I can EDC anything I want.

Taylor - on the knife suggestion, American made, would any of the Tactile knives not foot the bill for that? Just curious....love their knives (i have the Rockwall Thumb Stud) and they are a bit cheaper than some of the options you mentioned and maybe easier to get your hands on (especially the CR knives!) but extremely solid knives!

I’d wager most EDC guys rarely do anything that would constitute “hard use”
With the expensive overbuilt knives that people carry these days it’s gotta be hard to put genuine wear on them opening letters, boxes, and packets of cheese 😆
I’m almost never outside of the house when I need to do hard use tasks, and when I’m home I have tools that are better suited for the job than an EDC knife. Painter’s tool, hammer, drill, oscillating multi-tool, etc etc
My Leatherman Wave does get some hard use though for sure because it’s often around even when I’ve misplaced other stuff.

Few ideas: 1. Random edc to review not curated by you or your mods. 2: guest spotlight or reviewer edc. 3. Public pocket check go out and see edc for different types of jobs.

I admit to laughing at the pristine carries, I also admit to completely forgetting to submit mine. I think I did one for the last heavy use video, but it wasn't used. I'll eventually get my junk showcased to show what EDC gear really is. 🤣

I love your vids! I first subscribed to your channel from your $50, $100, $150 etc. videos! I loved the first couple where you went on Amazon or whatever and looked at all the items within your budget! Perhaps make a couple more of those vids, I think they're fun and interesting! I myself am a budget EDC carrier! I can't afford $200 knives lol! Maybe you'll find some new gadgets in the process. Anyways keep up the vids bud!

The community has a weird hard-on for demanding proof that people use their stuff “enough”. The average person has very little daily use for a knife and it would take years to show real wear. Throw in the fact that most of us have multiple knives in our collection to split usage between and some people may take close to a decade or more.
Is it satisfying to see worn tools? Abso-fuckin-lutely. But analyzing other people’s pictures to see if their knives are worn enough for you is weird as hell.

To counter this argument... if I was searching for a hard use item... Something that needed to survive the test... and many of these people are proposing knives based on theoretical usage because someone told them a particular steel was better... then people will be led astray.

I see it both ways. It doesn't matter at the end of the day - worry about your own EDC gear & equipment. also understand where the critical criticism comes from within the knife community. Example: Is "so n so" the guy that carries EDC gear that never gets used but claim it's the best of the best ? I know soo many people that carry all this "high speed - low drag" EDC equipment / knives.. but when it comes time to use it, it's a sold *Nope*.. don't want to damage or scratch/ruin it. At which point it just becomes a "pocket status symbol".. which is comical. Those are the "Chad's" of the community in my opinion. It's foolish to intentionally bust your stuff and substitute one tool for another. But when you are going out of you way to *Not Use* the stuff you carry, waiting & wasting time to use something else because you refuse to use your own pocket goodies.. why ?? What's the point? Just to carry / wear 3 pounds of pocket jewelry? I think over the years EDC has just become trendy & many people just jump on the bandwagon after reading a paragraph about something being great & why it needs to be purchased by the customer. The only piece of gear I can truly justify *not using* all the time is if you have a dedicated self defense knife & you want it sharp 24/7 - 365.. but even that won't hurt to use once & awhile. I just know too many that rant & rave about an EDC piece(s) and they legitimately won't use it, the piece of mind paragraph description they read about it is good enough for them. Similar to dude Chris Reeve.. not a single scratch on the the blade. Does he open packages & boxes with it ? Probably not. It's an expensive fight toy & a knife community status symbol.

If I want to see a review on something that's "hard use," I usually research that piece specifically. Not that hard. Done it a million times on a million different things. I use Taylor's videos to get his take on "how comfortable something is to carry," and "how to organize it in your pockets."
Remember a few years back when EDC vids weren't a thing? Back when you only found out how it worked for *you* by *actually carrying the thing?* It still works that way, believe it or not, because everybody's different.

I use a knife pretty much every day many different purposes. Granted, i chose an unusual blade shape with an unusual steel, specifically so i could do weird, un-knifelike things with it, but I do use it. Even more than that, I use my multitool almost every time I go out into the woods. The pliers make a great, controllable method for breaking sticks to the perfect length for any purpose.
But most importantly, we ought to be promoting the concept of minimalization and standardization of our individual kits. I've known old-timers who have carried the same pocketknife for decades and are borderline wizards with it. I've also known younger enthusiasts, with a knife for every day of the week, for whom the knife is not second-nature. They'll struggle with their hands before they remember their knife.
