      Kinda disappointing that the scooters were electric kickscooters and not moped scooters. Depending on where you are mopeds beat even motorcycles cross city, as you can follow bicycle routes that bypass traffic lights, but you still effectively have the speed of a car.
      On my commute going by moped bypassed so much traffic lights that it turned a 5km commute from a 40 minute traffic jam by car into an 8 minute ride. Even with legal lane splitting for motorcycles here, you can't avoid being stuck at lights for minutes on end during rush hour.

      I have an idea for Zack and Ari. Ride scooters from so. Cal all the way to the top of Washington state. 300cc to keep it safe, like a yamaha xmax300 and a Vespa GTS 300. I know the boys love scooters and seeing them tour on a couple of scoots would be a fun journey to witness.

      So sorry, but $21000.00 for a motorcycle is NOT a "good low price." It's high end for the bikes you are riding. $12k is a decent price for most normal commuters. The CBR1000 is a much better deal if you want a commuter bike.

      In the US there's no limit to what bike you can buy and getting the license doesn't require actual riding experience, so I would say for most people with money in LA those are actual beginner choices 😂

    • @2K_Unlimited
      @2K_Unlimited 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +44

      Especially useful for adding the datapoint of money comparison, two bikes almost as expensive at the Tesla with two empty seats, and together drawing near double the fuel power as the Tesla.
      Still, for most of the trip, a decent commuter or beginner bike could match near the same speed with less than half the price and fuel, so it's still useful data.

    • @justcommenting4981
      @justcommenting4981 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      @2K_Unlimited I don't think there is any real benefit to using a motorcycle like that beyond personal enjoyment. Unless you're regularly hitting 120mph I think any middle weight streetbike will do it. Also both bikes TOGETHER cost as much as the Tesla. Tesla was $50k.

    I live in a city WAY smaller than LA (100k pop in city limits) and choose the pedal bike for 75% of my errands. Mostly because the 2-mile (flat) commute from my house to downtown is 2 traffic lights vs. 8 in a moving vehicle. Remember to thank your local government (or bug them) for protected bike paths and lanes.

      This race heavily favours cars and motorcycles. Just by being in LA that should be obvious. The distance is quite far for a bicycle and the traffic isn’t even that bad. Also doesn’t factor in things like parking at the destination.
      So you can draw the conclusion that a motorcycle is the fastest way to cross LA - a sprawling urban mass where lane splitting is legal. But that doesn’t apply to all cities.
      Also on the topic of helicopters - RIP Kobe.

      I live in a metropolitan area 10x denser than LA (15M people vs 3M people in half the land area) and the bicycle absolutely wins even with almost nonexistent cycling infra. A typical commute for me that already goes against the usual flow of traffic is about 1-2h by car, 1h-1h30m by motorcycle, 1h30-2h by public transit, and 1h15m by bicycle.
      Going to the shops within my city during rush hour takes 45 minutes by car or motorcycle, and 15 minutes by bicycle. Haven't even factored in the time and money spent for parking yet.

    • @dudeonbike800
      @dudeonbike800 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@beehard44 Funny how we are forced to ask for "bicycle infrastructure" where cyclists don't need any of it! Cycling along a nice country road without any road markers, asphalt paint, guard rails, stop lights or anything else is perfectly safe and wonderful.
      Add drivers to the mix and there's your problem!
      It's the drivers that make it necessary! It's THEM flying in their two-ton death machines that require us to build barriers to stay safe.
      Insanity.

After 2 years of watching the motorcycle split lanes and pass by me while I was stopped in traffic I took the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course and bought a motorcycle. A nice and thin Kawasaki Versys (650cc). WOW did that change everything! Suddenly I was first at all the red lights and it cut down travel time around LA dramatically. Dweebs in the replies but hard agree. Motos are usually the more "comfortable" of the two, but both are easily the most vulnerable machines on the road. I'm a big proponent of cycling, and I use defensive riding/driving strategies learned from thousands of hours cycling in/around traffic every time I get on a moto. The scariest motorcycle riders I know/see are the ones that haven't ridden a pedal bike in 30+ years.

      NGL here a car was only 2x faster than the bicycle whilst it allows for 2-3x the speed on public roads within a city. That should tell you something about how congested car traffic is. Bicycle infrastructure is important and can even improve car traffic.

    Fun video but obviously there is no question whatsoever. A motorcycle combines the ability to move at just about whatever highway-legal speeds you want, WITH the ability to cut through traffic between lanes, move to the front of queues at stoplights, etc. I commuted for a few years on a motorcycle, until I hit a deer on my way home late one night, hurt myself badly enough, and decided I would rather use my motorcycle for pleasure. But damn if it didn't cut off 15 minutes on a relatively short commute compared to a car, just in its ability to lane split.

    The nerd in me does want to point out that bikes and cars take very little prep time but if you're putting on and taking off proper safety gear electric scooters and motorcycles lose some time in the race from couch to being presentable at destination, especially if that destination is a stuffy office job with a dress code

    • @2K_Unlimited
      @2K_Unlimited 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you're right, those add to the trip time.
      I count about 3 minutes to don Helmet, Chaps and Jacket that go over my office outfit without a full change, and less than 2 to remove them. I use basic MC boots that are acceptable for the office. If I added shoe changes that would be another 4 to 5 minutes.
      Oddly, my half-scooter (Mten4 EUC) is more like 10 minutes each way, because i start the App on my phone. While it syncs up to the the Bluetooth Helmet and EUC (to give speed and time once a minute); I add kneepads and wrist braces with wireless turn signal controller tacked on. If I'm running early I take the MC to save 5 minutes.

      I'm an HVACR guy and work at a factory. I wake up at 5:35, out the door on my bicycle at 5:50. Arrive at work at 6:20, clock in a 6:25 (earliest I can clock in), and change into work clothes by 6:30.
      Motorcycle with safety gear would be slightly slower. Driving is actually the fastest way, but I prefer to pedal.
