NSW has been well served by buses for generations. It’s a world class system that’s the envy of the world. Riders have a deep affection for its economy and service. They will be sadly missed.
Privatization is a folly that will prove its harm in years to come and you can bet powerful interests will defend the theft of public money at the expense of the public good. Expect poorer and uneven service, lower safety standards, lower upkeep and mostly, higher fares.
There’s no turning back in life. Everyone will rue this day.
Thanks for posting this video. It’s a lovely reminder of just how great a system it is/was.

Goodbye State Transit Authority, It just won't be the same without you, it was one of the best Public Transport outfits anywhere in Australia and I'm proud to have been a huge part of it from 1988 till Newcastle and Region 6 was first sold almost 4 years ago.
We had some of the best Bus driver training schools around, we did a great job with Tourism with the Explorer Buses (which I was a part of) we were the very best at getting huge crowds moving between Central and the Showground and races at Moore Park & Randwick, the shows and Footy Grand finals, SCG and we pretty much saved the 2020 Olympics when the Privates just couldn't hack it. We moved them all.
Now I'm retired from it all, before the Privates got their hands on it and before the TfNSW was created, we had among the best service industry in Australia.....Farewell STA, it was great working for you during the most part of my life.

They might have been good to work for as a driver, but as a passenger on both the government and private buses over the last 70 years, my vote has to go firmly to the privates. The worst thing about the government bus experience was the rough driving and general lack of consideration for the comfort and safety of passengers. There were also some pretty terrible bus models over over the years. On a positive note, it's fitting that the history should end with electric buses as the DRTT's first new (as opposed to second-hand) buses were also electric buses. Got off to a good start and a good finish. What was in between is forgettable.

@@tonyhworks The Privates were a joke until they were effectively "nationalised" in the 2000's when they became just government contractors I was lucky I grew up in the Westbus part of Fairfield (B10M's were the order of the day there) those on the Katen and Heath side not so lucky as they had to put up with Bedfords and later Isuzu's

I live in what was the last region to be handed to private owners (region 9, which covers the Eastern Suburbs) so I got to experience the last days of STA the longest. I was glad to have experienced the time when most of their iconic fleets like the Custom Citaros and PMCs were in service, especially when going to the popular beaches in the area like Coogee and Bondi. Farewell, STA…

I'm fortunate to have been in one of the last regions to be privatized (region 8). It's definitely a shame to see the STA go, for no reason other than politics. The end of an era. At least I'm fortunate enough to have a decent private operator, however the same cannot be said in other parts of Sydney.

Farewell STA after 90 odd years of existence 1932-2022 and we thank you.
