    Those new gates were installed because CSXT was planning to re-activate the line, but the line did not pass inspection, and it would cost like 7M dollars to refurbish the track , so they decided not to. However, this was maintained, but is no longer. They stopped maintaining it a few years back.

      Ah. Thanks. I wonder why it was going to be reactivated.

      I wonder if they charged the local/state government for the installation of the signals, and if they're still collecting a maintenance fee for them. As I recall, Norfolk Southern charged a city in Virginia almost $90,000 for an RR crossing gates/signals/installation--that was in early 1990s dollars,. so it would probably cost double that now...and $1000/month for maintenance.

    That replace thing is like how on the rarely used Wongawilli Coal-freight line has had a new level crossing installed with solar panels, batteries, and brand new WCH lights and bells.

    There is a whole slew of them in Davenport, IA. Highly doubt you would be able to get there, but if you were ever able to, a good starting point for that line (actually most likely was a spur) is at the intersection of Clark St, Redwood Ave, and Indian Rd (Indian becomes Redwood and vice versa). Just an idea!

    How come CSX won't remove the signals and gates? why have them there if the line is not activate it!

    2:32 Sadly that Light's visor and background had been stolen but not much had changed at the Abandoned Crossing but most of the tracks had been removed.

    Awesome shot of the abandoned railroad crossing! It is highly unlikely that CSX will reactivate the line since the tracks have been paved over the road in some places, it's a shame that those classic signals are going to waste.

    • @jazzbutterworth
      @jazzbutterworth 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just saying paved over tracks don't mean shit. The trains can flatten that tar like a steamroller. It's been done before too.

    Late, but this line is the former SCL line that connected back to Rockmart Georgia a little beyond Marble Street, so these signals were most likely installed in the 70's by the SCL.

    • @aidend2477
      @aidend2477 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If any of you wondering how I found this out, follow the Silver Comet Trail where the tracks end beyond Marble Street, and it'll lead you to here.

    Unfortunately, further down the line is the Silver Comet Trail. So any reactivation is not likely. Also CSX did not want the BNSF (Burlington Northern Santa Fe) to have access to Atlanta at that time. So up went the Silver Comet Line tracks. Now that its nothing but a trail further west at best any reactivation might only be for a couple of miles westward before the Silver Comet Trail takes over.
