You only say that because you haven't seen this season in a while. After rewatching it, you remember that Shane's mental health plummeted while Rick remained steady.
Same with Andrew Lincoln. His performance as Rick throughout the seasons is just phenomenal. He is very much an underrated actor. Wish he was in more movies instead of the most obscure indie movies.

He was wrong tho, Shane had experience as a former cop who would’ve searched for missing kids all the time, in a world before the zombie apocalypse, they give you 48 hours and after that you’re searching for a body, now in a zombie apocalypse where the world is more dangerous, they’re searching for a girl for over a week and all they’ve found is a doll, 99.9 % chance she was dead and Shane realised that, I think Rick did too but didn’t want to admit it to not upset people even if it would’ve been for the best of the group

If anything Shane's craziness was his unrequited love for Lori. Rick and the rest of them were trying to hold on to what the world use to be. Shane realized early on that world was gone. Up till season 4 Rick tried to hold onto the standards of the old world. It was until season 5 after Rick lost, his home (the prison), his family (Hershel and Judith whom he assumed died to the govenors attack) that he realized that humans are more dangerous than the walkers themselves. This was the season (5) where he became the popular Savage Rick. A Rick that easily resembled Shane, a Rick who was ruthless and meticulous. You see Shane was already that, but was wildly denied because it seemed crazy ATM. Shane was ostracized because of his behaviors that season 5+ Rick has shown. Difference is we've seen the worst of the worst from the lens of Rick so his actions seemed reasonable. Whereas Shane had a good point just that at the time it seemed evil, but in reality it was logical.
Shane is right though. As a cop, he knows what's what and that's just in a normal world. In the zombie apocalypse? Man she's dead and everyone but Carol knew it
