This is Dutilleux's "breakout" piece, coming after the 2nd Symphony (itself a masterpiece but in a relatively more conventional way). "Metaboles" is astonishingly imaginative and ravishing. Music of a higher realm.
Henri was a master of fascinating music that is completely forgettable. This is an incredibly inventive score with no song for you to hum on the way home after the concert.

Music of a higher realm.
This is the kind of score that I would print out and have it on my desk so that I can consult it when I compose or orchestrate.
Lineaire is easily one of the most ravishing, captivating string passages for orchestra.
Totally agree! Clearly inspired by Messiaen
Masterpiece.
Absolute masterpiece. Like a combination of Koechlin's "Les Bandar-Log", Messiaen, and Lutoslawski.
Thanks for the score! Such a well written piece.
Wow, the two bars leading up to rehearsal 12 (5:41) are otherworldly.
I've never heard this before. Brilliant!
Wow absolutely god tier beautiful orchestral colours!!! How do you do this??
Be French
Very strong viola at the start of "Lineaire."
Linéaire is one of the greatest writings for string orchestra ever
Wow

and what is wrong with that? Since when is memorability the most important element of music?
@@jimit.4220 When people don't remember you after meeting you at a party......
You don't need to remember a melody to remember the piece. Like how you don't need to remember funny quotes or quips to know if you like a person.
I can hum so many of the tunes in this piece! 😊
@@UtsyoChakraborty Sadly, you will be humming alone.
Great technical work in orchestration, but in general very borring.
Sad to hear that :( I find it very exciting really
