    This is by far the best video I have found on raising wax worms. Best, meaning you showed more in depth than any other video. Most videos just show how to make the honey and grain mix then dump the worms in and that is it. I have tried twice and the first colony I didn't think anything hatched. After seeing you using the microscope camera I realized I may have had worms and didn't know it. I just looked at the colony I have going now with a jewelers loupe and there they are. Microscopic.!! I did notice that they have managed to get through the filter on the top of the container. So I set that container in a pan of water so hopefully the worms that escape won't make it too far. Thank you! Great video, I am going to use my worms for fishing,

    This explains so much, i had a bin with waxworms which turned into moths, together with the waxworms there were dermestid beetle eggs so i basicly got a colony of them in the same bin and after all the moths died i left the bin on my desk for a night. Reckon the ventelation holes are quite big. So the next day i found teenie tiny worms all over my desk and laptop which came out of the bin i couldnt come up what they were! I was scared i had tiny dermestids all over the place but they are infact waxworm babies oh my!

    Hi! Without ur vids my little baby leoa (my crestie) probably wouldn’t have as good as a life and be as confortable and I would be stressed like 24/7. SO THANK U FOR MAKING THIS CHANNEL. U r awesome. Also my cresties nose is grey and it’s growing and I just noticed does this mean anything? (Pls help I’m really worried). And how long do u think people should have a crestie before they start holding it. (My crestie is a little jumpy and I’ve had her for about a year and a half)

    I know this doesn’t have much with the video but I have a couple questions and would really appreciate it if someone in the comments could answer them. I was given an adult male leopard gecko from family because they couldn’t take care of him and have a couple questions. (He has everything he needs and is safe and happy)
    1) how often should I switch feeding him mealworms and crickets?
    2) should I be gut loading the insects ?
    3) should I have a night heat bulb on at night or is the heating pad ok for warmth?

    • @plant2188
      @plant2188 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) It really doesn’t matter, just try to have the diet mostly crickets, because they’re healthier and easier to digest!
      2) YES, YES, YES!! Gut loading is SO important! Without gutloading, your gecko will not keep on weight well, and the insects won’t be as nutritious!
      3) It depends on how cold it gets at night. If your heat mat stays at 90-95 F and the ambient temperatures and cool side temperatures aren’t TOO cold, then you’ll be fine. If it is too cold, the you can use a ceramic heat emitter to increase ambient air temperatures
      4) DO YOUR RESEARCH! Leopard gecko talk has made lots of videos on these topics and more, and there’s lots of other sources too! So do your research!

    Alot of feeder insects are invasive species, responsible handling and breeding procedures should be standardised and promoted, for example boiling the waste substrate before disposal, cross contamination prevention so that microscopic eggs dont end up in your carpet and eventually make their way into the environment.

    • @Lewisiaisoutofcontext
      @Lewisiaisoutofcontext 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's because leopard geckos (and I presume you mean leopard gecko when you say "gecko") are crepsucular, meaning they are the most active during twilight. It's natural for them to sleep all day and be up from dusk until dawn. You shouldn't force her to be awake during the day.

    • @milkymalkum5708
      @milkymalkum5708 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't try getting her to come out during the day. A useful tip if you want to play/feed your gecko by hand is to adjust their daytime hours, or how long their lamp is on for. If you turn it on at 7am, turn it off at 7PM. By 8 she should be out and about or doing whatever, but she should have woken up by then and will be ready to play. Best of luck!

    • @ParasiteEvel
      @ParasiteEvel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to know the species of gecko you have, and if that gecko is diurnal or nocturnal or crepuscular. If its a leopard gecko, youre just gonna make it angry and stressed by making it come out more during the day.

    • @indigo2266
      @indigo2266 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it’s a leopard gecko, and yes, I know they are crepuscular. I was just wondering if there is anything you can do without stressing them. Thanks

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As the comments above says, Leopard Geckos are crepuscular, therefore they're most active dusk and dawn, however I usually recommend handling sometime from 6pm onwards. If you mean you want the gecko to come out more to bask during the day, make sure you've got a decent platform/hide for it to warm up on, and have a thermostat controlling that temp, so its not too hot hence why the gecko may be hiding from it.

    • @kaidencethomas4139
      @kaidencethomas4139 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They usually start shedding pretty early (I'm not sure how early) you only need to help them if they have any stuck shed. They usually get kinda pale about a day before they shed. If you hear it shedding (you can usually hear then if you're awake while they do it, they can be quite noisy) just leave them alone, it will stress them out if you handle them

    Sorry for this being totally off topic, but can Leopard Geckos eat Pangea as their only diet like crested geckos? I’m looking to get one, but my landlord said no bugs so I’m just curious. (By the way, yes I give my crestie some earthworms every so often, but I mean just not crickets and a constant diet of bugs). Thanks!

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leopard geckos are insectivores and absolutely cannot eat pangea, they need a variety of live insects. Cresties shouldn’t have earthworms, and should ideally get live insects once a week.

      You need to have feeders on hand at all times. Whether you breed them or not is up to you. It’ll save you money since you’ll get free feeders. I wouldn’t breed waxworms since they’re unhealthy and treats only. Crickets aren’t easy to breed. Roaches are a good feeder to breed

  • @madelinepaul939

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try Dubia or discoid roaches. You can also use different types of worms for variety. Silkworms and black soldier fly larvae are two very nutritious worms (although unfortunately most geckos don’t like bsfl). Superworms and hornworms can be fed occasionally. You can also try rubbing mealworm guts on crickets.
