Discord actually did have a friendship-destroying scheme. Twilight and Cadence rarely see each other so if he ruined one of their only times together it would contribute to their friendship falling apart. I think he says something in the episode along the lines of their friendship probably isn't very strong because they never see each other.
I find it weird that they had to take the entire flower, rather than a petal or two, which could probably heal any pony (or draconicas... Or however you spell it) if they had ever gotten the Blue Flu later. Also, did Discord heal AJ and Rarity after the episode or were the two too lazy to warn/help Twilight. And what did they do with the flower? Just leave it or take it back? Many questions, no answers
I don't think they'd end an episode with two characters getting eaten. I'm sure that would just lead to them trying to escape from their captor's body.
Still totally ready for Discord to be out of the show. He can only service as a pop culture reference machine, while we already have Pinkie Pie. While in any Major story plots there continually has to be contrived reasons for him to not use his powers to snap his fingers and fix the problem in a second. The idea that "His powers could be used for good" they shilled out in the episode of his original "refomation" ring hollow to the realization that if they were used in such a fashion, it undermines the very power that the mane 6 hold to do so in the first place. Has JDL done a service to the fandom, yes, but that's no reason to awkwardly shoe horn his character back into the series, seemingly to solely felicitate his fans for a character that has already served it's purpose to the narrative.
Stop talking like that about Discord! He's ten times better than Pinkie will ever be! And he's hilarious and my favorite character. Plus he is the perfect draconequus to ship with Flutters! Trust me when I say that nothing triggers me more than when people talk bad about Dissy!
Pinkie doesn't reference pop-culture much if at all. She breaks the fourth wall and breaks physics. Discord is the Genie from Aladdin. Because of his magic, he knows about other dimensions. They even showed this in an episode where he threatens to send Fluttershy's friend to a puppet one. It is explained in universe how he would know of all these references and it would make sense for him to constantly reference and make fun of them, since to the other ponies, it just seems like wacky nonsense, but to the audience, which he also knows, like Pinkiepie is there, he knows we will get it. You may not like that type of humor or character, but serving as a pop-culture reference isn't the only thing he does. He's helped many times teach new lessons, learned some of his own and been a powerful ally in some cases. As a character, design, use, quirks, I think he's just fine. So long as they stop using him as full fodder plot device and make him stupid for the sake of plot, ala the Tirek episodes.
I think you need to re-read the TVTropes page on "Big-Lipped Alligator Moments." Random songs are perfectly in-character for Discord, and the song does serve the plot; he's pointing out how much of an inconvenience he can be if they don't "cure" him.
And one again, in this episode cadance say "i'm little out of practice, when it comes to flying" how that possible, before cadance become an alicorn she is a pegasus
This was my favorite Discord episode once upon a time. Then I realized it was only because he had an actual song in it, and that some of his other episodes in later seasons (plus the Season 2 opener) are WAY better, and Three's A Crowd is actually just an a'ight episode.
