  • Commonwealth Golf Club is in the midst of stage two of its course restoration by Renaissance Golf Design.
In this video, we hear from golf course architect, Brian Slawnik, who is driving the project for Renaissance Golf Design. Brian references his colleague, Tom Doak, who first visited Commonwealth in 1988.
Commonwealth's restoration includes new Pure Distinction bent grass greens, subtle contour changes to several greens, some new bunkering and re-vegetation throughout the property.

Hole 1 returning is a good thing.

Fantastic Video and a great restoration job. We have the same problem in England on our great Heathland courses, far too many trees and too many non indigenous trees planted and ruining the Heathland environment. Heathland is man made and needs to be managed correctly, far too many golfers believe you need trees everywhere but this is to the detrimental effect of the golf course. Heathland needs light and air and native trees like scot's pines. Tom Doak and Renaissance have done a fantastic job on Woodhall Spa golf club taking thousands of trees out and now the Heather and Heathland biodiversity is thriving and much more fun for golf.
