    7:48 it's taken years of my life to find video evidence of this hunchback in the dungeon because I can remember being scared of it as a little lad so vividly. thank you theme park worldwide!

    • @denbenouandmistletoerecove9364
      @denbenouandmistletoerecove9364 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is supposed to resemble the hunchback of Notre Dame because he is ringing a bell. It also had a sound effect of a bell ringing but very creepy and a whirring sound to represent his bones creaking I think. Also there was a headstone down there too with a skeleton reflected on it playing bagpipes. It feels like you are in a cave down there and trapped in with a light somewhere.

    • @youngamericanferret422
      @youngamericanferret422 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the dungeon you basically walk down the stairs towards a door that you open and then there is a window. You push the button in and a secne from Gulliver's Travels lights up. Then you Walk round the corner where there is a Hansel and gretel secne. Then down the next hallway is Snow White. Next to that is a Mineshaft with miners digging for gold. In the next tunnel is a headstone that lights up with a skeleton playing bagpipes and at the other end is the hunchback of notre damn. The next hallway is themed to look like an old street full of shops behind doors and windows with Greensleeves. There is a carpenter, chandler, taxidermist, potter, saddler and weaver. You walk through a door then into a room with lots of penny machines before you enter the haunted vault. It is like a hallway with a cell where there is a crack in the wall and if you watch, a ghost appears and then dissapears. There is also a door with a window that you peer into and there is a man looking down into a crystal ball. The best part though is a little shed that you open and there is a witch inside but when you close the door, the doorknob vibrates. On the entry to the Smugglers Dungeon, there is an infinity mirror and sailor man. When you get in, there is a loud noise as a man in the cell rattles the door saying " open the door!". Lots of noises happen as it shoots air at you when you walk through the tunnel and through the low walkway into the section where the pirates are drinking rum. There is a person hanging from the ceiling as you go out. The last but is a Dungeon maze where you walk through rubber bars, hallway of funny mirrors and a cycle muesum.

      @@youngamericanferret422thank you for this in depth summary! it was the hunchback of Notre dame I couldn't find any footage or images of- proper scared me as a child and now I can see it again without making the trek down south to get there

      The first I went, I was going down the stairs to the dungeon and I pressed the button on the Gulliver secne whilst I was really scared about the creepy bit at the end but when the light went out, I screamed because I felt like I had to keep on going through but luckily I found the door to take me outside. Also when I saw the sign that said All Things Spooky pointing towards the Hansel and Gretel secne, I almost was in tears. I love it down there now though 😂😂

    The first family holiday I remember included visiting this place in 1999 when I was 4 years old and we revisited again 10 years later in 2009 when I was 14. Watching this made me quite emotional as I felt like I was there all over again. Thank you for a great video. Even though I am now 27 (going on 28) I would love to go back with my family just to experience this once last time.

    The dark ride scene on the snail ride used to be based at Watermouth Castle’s (now defunct) sister park, Once Upon A Time, but instead of teddy bears, it was The Smurfs! Exactly the same set up, but they’ve just replaced the figures with teddy bears!
    The smurf dark ride was on a similar train layout but as you rode on the outside section you would be greeted by characters from The Wind in the Willows!

    • @MajoraWaffle
      @MajoraWaffle 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes! i'm so glad someone else remembers this too! very weird that they've retrofitted all the smurfs animatronics but the gargamel remains the same.

    So happy you visited here after I recommend to you after your Devon and Cornwall road trip last year. Water mouth had a tough 2 years as they weren't allowed to open in 2020.
    All the work on the gardens, Castle and rides are all done in house and all profits go on adding to the collection and towards new attractions.
    As people have said Captain Andy's was at Thorpe park but the boat ride figures were in the African Tiki Show at Windsor saferi park. The boat ride itself and props around the park were from a boat ride that was at Cricket St Thomas during the Mr blobby days.

  • @DemonTomatoDave
    @DemonTomatoDave 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ello! So this is my favourite place in the world, I can tell you one thing about those houses you wondered about as you walked past them on the enchanted walk. Those weren't always there, they went up some time in the 90s iirc - so I assume they're where the Haines' who own the castle live, now they're all grown and have their own families and so might have overrun the living space left in the castle itself. I don't know for sure, this is all guesswork, but those houses didn't use to be there, I remember that!

    Fun fact about that scary crocodile animatronic at 16:58! It has an infamous reputation online for triggering ‘submechanophobia’ - the fear of submerged man-made objects and machinery. Another classic example is a similar, though much larger animatronic of a mythical creature called a Bunyip in Australia.

I could probably spend the whole day just pottering around the museum. I'd have to give myself a second day for the park. 😅 Blackgang Chine used to have its own little museum like the section seen at 8:10 (much bigger than the tiny landslide/whale exhibit they have now) and I was gutted when they closed the doors. 😞

    Another good and interesting park I never knew existed, yeah agree a family coaster could be a next up investment? Hopefully this is something that is added in future? Will have to wait & see if that is something they will add in & have added in since visiting? Toboggan I would say was the same length or similar length to Chatham Ski Centre?? If not, that one in Medway is a bit longer? Not really sure to be honest? But yeah a good selection of rides here, but yeah a coaster ideal for families would be ideal 100%. Cheers and look forward for more park vlogs soon & in future. 😀👍

    fun fact: the water ride was orignally from dunblobbin (which I call mr blobby land) and was moved from there to watermouth castle after the theme park shutdown, it was a ride called TV's Family Favourites where you would travel through various scenes involving animatronics of british tv characters from the 90's (eg; the clangers, magic roundabout, mr blobby, bill and ben)
    I just realized that some of the animatronics from the ride are in watermouth castle
    they can be found at:

    Stayed there in one of the onsite cottages with my 3yo a few years ago. Has an on site swimming pool for guests too. Cheap as chips for 7 nights 3 beds. Also can use the park after hours, not the manned rides obvz

    I have been visiting this park since the late 80s early 90s and it is absolutely brilliant. Quirky and fun. The grounds are immaculate. You can easily spend all day here, especially if you take your time to look at everything on offer.

      @@gadgetboy1980 Nice one, at least you go to ride the Snail Trail before it closed at end of 2023 season!
      Yea I know it was sold but not recently though but until Spring of 2023, when the owners of Hobbledown "The Escapade Group" took over the park.
      I heard/read about the changes months ago on Radio, TV, Social Media, Website, etc like: The new play zone will be broken up into three new areas including Hobbledown Bay and a Pixie Village, while other existing play equipment will be refurbished to create The Mining Village.
      Its latest additions: Hobbledown Bay, Pixie Role Play Village, The Mining Village. Fairy Museum, + Water Pillow!

    I was sat on the hills over looked the bays around there on a warm evening with a bit of sea mist when a the shadow of a ghostly pirate ships sails past. The next day we saw the not so ghostly ship in the next bay. It's a great area to base a holiday in North Devon but I haven't been there for almost 20 years and haven't been in the castle for 30. Watermouth Bay has some amazing surfing, loads of places to walk and lots of bits of history plonked around especially if you don't mid driving into Cornwall and exploring the wider area. I really need to go back now :)

    It looks no different to when I went over 15+ years ago. Gnome land was definitely there then and all the other quirky things around! I was expecting the croc to squirt you when you got close, as I'm sure it used to spray water! 🤣
