Wow, you really hit it out of the park with the Mammoth. It looks absolutely gorgeous, perfectly cut, great design choices, and looks to be extremely functional and top quality. Congratulation and best of luck, and thanks for the belly laugh when you introduced it so humbly in the vid.
@@TheIronSnail Are you looking into making additional colors in the future? (Like you did with your denim jacket?) If so... I'd vote for something like that beautiful green from the Filson. The Mammoth in that green would be an instant purchase from me! Awesome job with the Mammoth!
I’ve never been more excited for a jacket I’ve been waiting ever since it was announced. It’s so refreshing to see someone actually care about clothing again. Unless it’s like a novelty hoodie or shirt from a place I’m visiting I done even buy new clothing anymore it’s almost strictly vintage or second hand because I know it’s gonna fall apart on me I don’t even need something this over built I’m just happy it exists and I wanna be a part of this thing you’re doing
@TheIronSnail Awesome jacket! I noticed the Mammoth sold out - I'm not surprised (also congrats!). I hope there will be more soon and perhaps a solid black or charcoal (I know, I'm boring). The fact that you list all of the relevant measurements is so rare and refreshing. The selling point for me is the wool interior. So many overcoats say 100% wool then have plastic on the inside. Some of my vintage wool garments look fantastic on the outside but the plastic fibers on the inside are oxidized and breaking. It's awesome that you made something thoroughly great!
this jacket literally has every single thing I can ask for. the fabric pattern also looks amazing and the amount of energy and thought you put into this is absolutely crazy. thank you for the iron snail!
Beautiful jacket! I'll be honest, I was rather on-the-fence when you first announced you'd be making a jacket - but you've really knocked my expectations out of the park. Fantastic job implementing all of your knowledge into one complete garment x
Your wool jacket is amazing! I won’t be able to get the first release but it’s definitely worth every penny. Incredible wool construction and materials overall. I had the opportunity to visit Tagua artisans in Ecuador and talk to some of them so I know those buttons are as premium as they get. Thank you for taking the time to create such amazing garments. I look forward to seeing your brand grow and flourish.
Man I would love to get one for myself but sadly I haven't got much use for it now that I moved back to Mexico. I'll stay tuned for whatever clothes more suited for warmer weather you release bc this is probably the best value for money piece of clothing i've ever seen. Truly your magnum opus, Mr. Snail. Keep the good work up and Merry Christmas.
I'm a huge wool fan. I have a closet full of Filson and Woolrich and it's rare that I wear anything other than wool. When you mentioned you were going to announce your jacket along with the others as one of the greatests jackets, I felt like it was a shameless marketing stunt. After seeing all the details of the Mammoth though, I'm really impressed. And your launch into space made me completely lose it. So I'm good with the marketing stunt and happy I saw it. I'm going to buy a Mammoth as soon as they're available. As a large guy, I hope the 2xl fits. Most excited to see how this handles northern Michigan winter camping. Also interesting to note that what you're doing seems to align with how I layer. On top of my base layers, I like to layer a worsted long sleeve shirt, a wool sweater and finally the wool jacket. All the different kinds of knit patterns really help deal with wind while still remaining breathable. While not a huge deal in the woods, the beaches in the winter out here get really crazy wind.
This has been one of the coolest craziest things to watch grow over time. I don’t know you at all. I don’t comment on TH-cam videos. But I just want to say you should be so proud!

Heck yes! Finally a beefy good looking wool coat with a lining and storm cuffs. For the price this is easy the highest value jacket on the Market. Congrats on crushing it Michael. Love your content.
I would love to see a fully-biodegradable version of the Mammoth! The nylon internal cuffs are a turnoff for me, but the rest of the jacket looks awesome. Maybe they could be worsted wool, like how Dehen 1920 does it.

Hey Michael, I have a Woolrich Mac Jacket and similar LL Bean jacket that I could send to you if you wanted to do a video on them. I actually almost bought that same Woolrich Mac with the patch, and I hope it eventually shows up for you!
I have a Filson Double Mackinaw, a Woolrich Double Mackinaw, and a Woolrich Hunt Coat. The Woolrich Hunt Coat weighs the most, and is the warmest, even though it's only one layer of wool, with a cotton lining. The Woolrich Double Mackinaw is the lightest, but it's in mint condition from the 80s. The hunt Coat was NOS. The Filson is also from the 80s, but has a couple little moth marks. Do yourself a favor and get anything by weatherwool. No more itch. Finest wool out there. Great fledgling company. The only thing that sucks is they run out of stock pretty fast. I have the navy Schott peacoat because Weatherwool doesn’t do navy. I have to weatherwool black peacoat. It’s so great.
@@bfettrules1239 Do you own one? How is it against wind penetration? That's my only complain about what I have. If it's too cold and windy it's Carhartt Arctics. The duck really blocks the wind.
@@Old_Sailor85 I find that Weatherwool blocks the wind quite well. I own the CPO jack shirt, the AAJ, and their peacoat. Best investments ever. I have a couple of their accessories too. I have the wool cap and scarf. Scarf is very wide so it can be a little cumbersome but will definitely get the job done. Their cap is freaking amazing. Snug but not tight. You unfold the brim to make it loose fitting if that’s your thing.
Good video - and the Mammoth looks great. 👌🏻 As an alternative to the Duckworth, I’d take a look at McNair Mountain Shirts. I’m very pleased with mine, and it works great in the Norwegian winters. And I got it made-to-measure for £375 - handmade in the UK! (Sometimes I layer a Filson wool vest underneath.)
I got McNair's heavyweight mountain shirt in May (2023) and LOVE IT! I'm very curious how McNair compares to the pieces featured in this video....especially WeatherWool.
How does it stand up to the winters in Norway? I live in Innlandet, and here it can become quite cold🥶 I wanted to buy the Mammoth, but it wouldn't ship to my location. Right now I'm looking at vintage Filson mackinaws on Ebay, but the McNair could be an option if I can use it as an outer layer in the winter. What do you think?
@@Sondre_Friis_Nyberg I live in Oslo, which is less cold (though -20 now!) - and it’s worked great! Obviously better with layering, so size accordingly. My only gripe, is the lack of hand-warming pockets. Maybe ask if they can make some..? 🙃 I usually wear a Northern Playground T-shirt closest to my body, then a shirt or sweater (wool if really cold) and then the McNair. And it’s never been too cold.
Jacket looks amazing! Love the clip addition and pocket layout. Know its not the style but if it had a zip in nylon or attachable hood for extra id be all over it.
My favorite wool jacket is an old school Woolrich. I wear it a lot and I slept in it again last night. I have a heavy Filson jacket with tiny pockets that i only wear once a year. I have a Filson Jac-Shirt with pockets that won't button with a pack of cigarettes in them. I have a Filson vest with pockets that dump my phones on the ground everytime I forget how useless they are. I have a Filson hat with seams sewn upside down so water keeps my head wet on rainy days. I have Filson shoes that are as heavy as boots. "Might as well have the best," but what does that have to do with Filson?
It's a great Q and there are a few reasons: - faster drying (I figured it'd be better for storm cuffs to dry fast) - it's a bit stronger than wool at relative thicknesses so its less likely to irritate the wearer while still remaining strong (that's a bit more personal reason because I break out in hives with rougher wools directly on my skin) - it has better dimensional stability so it'll retain it's shape a bit better the other reason is that I have to start from the ground up with custom yarns for the storm cuffs and it'll take a bit to test blends, fiber types, etc. to make sure they are maximized strength wise while also not feeling like sandpaper cuffs etc. ! Not to mention added dev cost + prod costs these will probably be iterated over time but I wanted to make sure I used a method that had a solid reputation behind it (from the manufacturer) until I could really get into the weeds!
SIZING!! you forgot to talk about it!!! you need to avoid endless returns after purchase! you have a youtube channel to specifically discuss that aspect of it!!
@@TheIronSnail No worries brother, good looks on the jacket and good luck with all the sales. you made it just like i hoped you would, classic Mackinaw style.
I'm looking forward to you making a shirt-jacket with decent pockets. It's not cold enough where i live to wear your heavy jacket. I live in a high elevation rain forest in Hawaii, so I wear wool most of the time. If you made a shirt jacket I'd be saving up for it right now.
So I know this comment is a month old, but really the 85/15 is a good blend. It’s what Woolrich really became famous for and adds durability and water resistance to the wool. As long as the blend is still majority wool it is good 👍
Best value for money! Wish I could get one, but unfortunately I just can’t justify spending $500 on a jacket, even if it is cheaper/better than the others. Any recommendations for low budget wool outerwear? Big Bill is a brand I’ve been looking into
The Mammoth looks truly incredible, and this is coming from someone who owns both a Filson Packer Coat and a WeatherWool coat. You can tell that the Mammoth was designed by a true enthusiast because every little detail that only an obsessive enthusiast would think of is covered. And for $550?! I really thought it was going to be more. Cannot wait to own both versions! P.S. - can you ID the sweaters you were wearing?
On that note, how do you like the filson packer? After weatherwool ran out of black peacoats and lynx AJJs this winter, I've been eyeballing filson packers and they just resupplied
@@ElDinosaurioGigante If you can get past the price, it's the flagship Filson coat for a reason. The stitching is impeccable, it's unsurprisingly very warm (especially with the collar turned up), and it has some cool history to it. That said, this year seems to be the last year that it will be made in Seattle so some of that history is disappearing, and it can look very costume-y (think Red Dead Redemption cosplay) IMO in the louder plaids. The 2022 model with the darker shearling and the charcoal chalk stripe wool is what I have and I really enjoy it. Last year Filson marked them down to like 30% off, at that price I think it's far more reasonable.
Hey I might have an ID on the sweaters! Both j crew and LL bean make versions of the roll neck waffle-y one (I want to say his was the LL Bean version) and I think the cream colored one is the 'heritage cotton crewneck' sweater from j crew. Could be wrong but I think I'm at least pretty close!
I’m sad you didn’t get the vintage woolrich. I have one in that bright red, it’s 4.4 lbs. I am wanting one of these but man, I have one that would probably cost $750 now anyway. That tan and brown speckled one is just… too cool though.
I just had a real shitty month an had to drop an unexpected 3k on my car after an unexpected accident. I’m bummed I can’t snag a Mammoth, but just wanted to let you know I really appreciate your content man. Fingers crossed I can snag one in the very near future.
So, I'm going on the age of 35, sports and stuff are fun but watching cooking, tech and style on YT are the only matters that bring sense to living. you, you motherflipper actually bring something to my table in the mud of shite!!
I love how much you feature made in America and Europe please keep it up! Also how DARE you show me a sold out sign when I wish to purchase your jacket? Would love to see it in different colors like a off cream, grey and perhaps a muted green?
Ok yeah you had the Norman Bates look going on I see what your saying. Lol - seriously, love your content. Thanks for all the research and detail in your reviews and the editing and production 👍🏻
I literally just got the Stapleton single mack from Filson. Not 2 weeks later you drop this...Dammit. I want it, but you now also mention a special edition one! Here's what I'll do. I'm going to wait and use my filson why I do (it's cold). When the special edition drops I'm going to buy it immediately, and then Ebay my filson. I also have a hooded sweatshirt from Weatherwool, if this special edition fills both rolls I'll just get rid of the weatherwool and filson, which will more than cover the cost of the special mammoth (I hope). I will own that jacket. I got my bell notification on, and I WILL NOT miss the special edition pre-order. What a design! Any idea on WHEN the special will drop?
Also THANK YOU for adding sizes for larger people! Your denim jackets never went to my size and these do! I'm and XL in the mammoth sizing and you even have a size larger!
Jacket looks amazing! But if it's indeed 3lb 12oz as you said and my Filson packer is close to 7lb i think the packer will be a hefty amount warmer. Or am i missing something?
I think the packer would be warmer! It’s a full double Mac that’s longer with a liner AND that huge shearling collar - the double mac is heavier than the Mammoth but the liner makes it feel like it’s warmer (could just be my own bias, mistake etc.) The packer is heavier without the collar most definitely but I’m assuming that’s the bulk of the added weight too
@@TheIronSnail Thanks for the answer and the honesty! Love you and your channel mate! I would still try to get the special edition but i read you will be making 5 so the chances are super slim to get one! That is 5 in every size or 5 in total? Enjoy the holidays and congratz on your amazing jacket! I am just as addicted to quality clothing as you are and i love what you are doing to the industry!
Hard to give a perfect answer but with the wool being 4oz heavier + having a 9oz lining and the wind wall wool...I'd say it's a good amount warmer + more windproof in general!
Ok..when I first started watching you…”this kids a nut…” but not in a bad way. Now seeing that jacket you designed…”This kids a nut, but in the best way there is” Atta boy. If I had not JUST bought a brand new Cape coat for 3(tags say 650) I’d be on this like white on rice…😂😂😂 Edit, I’m getting one next winter GUARANTEED…
My job cut my hours just in time for the holidays. I'd be on this thing so fast if not for that. All the best from the boring part of NY and happy holidays, Michael!
Will there be another run of the mammoth special edition???? I just missed it seeing your video today and was so impressed my wife wanted to to get one for me for the holidays!!
Is this a one time drop? I love it but unfortunately won’t be able to get one this winter. Also would you ever consider dropping it in XS? I’m a short guy (5’4”) and would love to have it fit the way I want. Congrats you knocked it out of the park.
Visually great! sizing for the larger sizes just feels a little off, for my 2c a 29.5 pit to pit on an XL seems really big (ie a weather wool AAJ XXXL is 30 in for chest). If chest is significantly different from pit to pit, would love to see those dimensions published too. Jumping four inches in chest size from size to size seems fine, but 6 inches feels like it’ll leave a lot of people out. Wish I could have the Large chest with the XL shoulders, sleeve, and body length, but maybe I’m more lanky than I realized lol
Damn that jacket looks pretty good actually. I live in northern NSW so it never will get cold enough to justify a double layered wool jacket but if I was still living in BC I would buy. Good stuff mate.
Tip for those when talking about Kashmir. Kashmir is a region in Northern India and Pakistan they have a goat. The regular whool they call Kashmir. The good stuff is called Pashmina the Pashmina only comes from the kneck area of the goat and comes in far less quantity. It has extremely good warmth to weight.

The Mammoth was even more impressive than i expected. Very cool
I’m holding out for the special edition! Love the attention to detail!
What jacket were you wearing in the beginning? Looks like a J97 Detroit jacket but just slightly different
So I didn't catch the pre-order. When will they be available next? And will the price be the same?
That is my favorite jacket…so great. You deserve the moon!!! Thanks for all of this content.
Good video - and the Mammoth looks great. 👌🏻
As an alternative to the Duckworth, I’d take a look at McNair Mountain Shirts.
Looks amazing! Any chance there will be a duffel/long coat build the same way? Would love to have a longer version!
Super-splendid, and what, pray tell, is the mark and make of the work jacket from the intro, a bi-swing back canvas work jacket, old Carhartt?
I dont know you personally, but im proud
Jacket looks amazing! Love the clip addition and pocket layout. Know its not the style but if it had a zip in nylon or attachable hood for extra id be all over it.
Hooy cow! Good video! I loved you styling the jackets
Have you looked at the Miklagaard Anoraks?
Those look awesome
Why not wool storm cuffs instead of acrylic?
It's a great Q and there are a few reasons:
- faster drying (I figured it'd be better for storm cuffs to dry fast)
- it's a bit stronger than wool at relative thicknesses so its less likely to irritate the wearer while still remaining strong (that's a bit more personal reason because I break out in hives with rougher wools directly on my skin)
- it has better dimensional stability so it'll retain it's shape a bit better
the other reason is that I have to start from the ground up with custom yarns for the storm cuffs and it'll take a bit to test blends, fiber types, etc. to make sure they are maximized strength wise while also not feeling like sandpaper cuffs etc. ! Not to mention added dev cost + prod costs
these will probably be iterated over time but I wanted to make sure I used a method that had a solid reputation behind it (from the manufacturer) until I could really get into the weeds!
Had an issue saying it wouldnt deliver to my address but was lucky enough to be able to snag one anyway🔥
SIZING!! you forgot to talk about it!!! you need to avoid endless returns after purchase! you have a youtube channel to specifically discuss that aspect of it!!
honestly...you are so right...TRUE TO SIZE! +1 from your Filson size!
Congrats sir, looks amazing. Glad America has you
When it comes to vintage 503's, is 100% vs 85/15 wool worth weighing pros and cons?
So I know this comment is a month old, but really the 85/15 is a good blend. It’s what Woolrich really became famous for and adds durability and water resistance to the wool. As long as the blend is still majority wool it is good 👍
Any estimated timeframe for when the special edition version goes on sale?
In earlier comments he said late spring, about two months after picking up the wool in europe (around February)
@@cameronwuethrich3560 those were exactly my guesses too!
I’m sad you didn’t get the vintage woolrich. I have one in that bright red, it’s 4.4 lbs.
I am wanting one of these but man, I have one that would probably cost $750 now anyway. That tan and brown speckled one is just… too cool though.
Hi Michael. Of topic, but what brand and model is your bagpack?
I just had a real shitty month an had to drop an unexpected 3k on my car after an unexpected accident. I’m bummed I can’t snag a Mammoth, but just wanted to let you know I really appreciate your content man. Fingers crossed I can snag one in the very near future.
So Mike, can you get these wool coats in a style that looks like a typical Mackinaw, ( you know..... the red and black tartan jackets....) ????
Well done. The coat looks amazing.
Any idea of a re-stock timeline for the Mammoth? I've signed up for the email but would like to plan on it financially
Hi, the Mammoth looks very good, like the color and functions included !!!
Jacket looks amazing! But if it's indeed 3lb 12oz as you said and my Filson packer is close to 7lb i think the packer will be a hefty amount warmer. Or am i missing something?
I think the packer would be warmer! It’s a full double Mac that’s longer with a liner AND that huge shearling collar - the double mac is heavier than the Mammoth but the liner makes it feel like it’s warmer (could just be my own bias, mistake etc.)
The packer is heavier without the collar most definitely but I’m assuming that’s the bulk of the added weight too
@@TheIronSnail Thanks for the answer and the honesty!
@@dimi7055 thank you so much!! Five total sadly! The wool is 4x more expensive so I had to keep it EXTREMELY limited for now!
How warm is the Mammoth vs. a Filson single Mackinaw?
Hard to give a perfect answer but with the wool being 4oz heavier + having a 9oz lining and the wind wall wool...I'd say it's a good amount warmer + more windproof in general!
You deserve to make full videos about your own products without shrouding them in other videos. The mammoth should have it's own long form video.
Ok..when I first started watching you…”this kids a nut…” but not in a bad way. Now seeing that jacket you designed…”This kids a nut, but in the best way there is” Atta boy. If I had not JUST bought a brand new Cape coat for 3(tags say 650) I’d be on this like white on rice…😂😂😂
Edit, I’m getting one next winter GUARANTEED…
Hugh Jackman jr. wolverines hairdo. Cool! Good contents. Keep it up!👍
My job cut my hours just in time for the holidays. I'd be on this thing so fast if not for that. All the best from the boring part of NY and happy holidays, Michael!
Already have a filson, but man that mammoth is tempting
Will there be another run of the mammoth special edition???? I just missed it seeing your video today and was so impressed my wife wanted to to get one for me for the holidays!!
It would be ideal for the winters in NYC and so shocked I missed seeing your blog post by just a few days😮😮
Will this only be a run of 100 jackets? Or willthere be future releases?
How does the size of a Mammoth compare to an L size Filson Mackinaw Cruiser?
Is this a one time drop? I love it but unfortunately won’t be able to get one this winter. Also would you ever consider dropping it in XS? I’m a short guy (5’4”) and would love to have it fit the way I want. Congrats you knocked it out of the park.
I genuinely almost ordered that exact jacket that got lost in the mail
The Mammoth jacket makes me wish I wasn’t allergic to wool. Looks great! Well done.
I love the mammoth colour and pattern, very cool.
AH!! No you caught an error -- thank you!! Sizes are updated!!
@@TheIronSnail ohhhhh hahaha, glad to see the updates! XL looking real nice now!
Damn that jacket looks pretty good actually. I live in northern NSW so it never will get cold enough to justify a double layered wool jacket but if I was still living in BC I would buy. Good stuff mate.
Great job! Your jacket looks amazing! Does it have hand warmer pockets? Merry Christmas!
Any chance of more colorways? I love the concept but want black. Thanks!
Bro the modelling faces 😂 love it
You should've included paul & shark! Love the video.
