    Oh my, I'm so impressed. I know nothing about kinetic sculpture and am blown away by what you've created. I also appreciate David Roy's work, he is truly a master. I am a woodworker and am retired. Tired of making furniture & boxes. Have made a couple windsor chairs and am ready to try something new. What would you recommend as a first project to get into this type of work to better understand how the process goes? Should I follow this video? Again, I'm in awe of this type of work. Thank you for sharing your talent!

      Thanks much, Anne. I've done a couple kinetic sculptures now and perhaps the most satisfying part about the process, is figuring out how all the pieces and parts actually work together. My end results are after some trial and error which makes the achievement of the final working model even more satisfying. As a woodworker yourself, I think you understand the reward there. I have another video on my channel that does a Sun and Moon motion sculpture using a microwave turntable motor... more ideas there on motion management. I think the best place to start is with an idea or image of something you'd like to create, and then work through (as I did) how to engineer the motion. I like using wooden pulleys and that urethane belt material to help with rotation... wishing you the best! -Mark

    UPDATE: 4/30/2021 - I've gotten a few requests to explain how a spring loaded kinetic mechanism works, and I just haven't figured that part out yet. That's why I used a compact DC motor for my project. For better detail you can try a new channel: th-cam.com/channels/j9vcqljxGdabNs_MV8Dssg.html

      Thanks, man... Pretty easy to start up a youtube channel, you should give it a try and get creative! It's not a huge money maker but who cares! It's all good down in the woodshop...

      It was a first attempt but really happy with the design now I just need to make it automated! Check out David C. Roy for some of his designs... they are awesome.

    Hello sir, I like your work very much and I want to learn how to create works like it. Can you help me and teach me how to do the same? Thank you

    • @TheFamilyWoodworker
      @TheFamilyWoodworker  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahmed, thank you very much for watching our little channel! I think my best teaching lesson is contained in the video, in fact I say a couple times that I had to change the design and rethink how to put the pieces together in order to make it actually work. That meant I couldn't offer specific measurements, or teach people the steps in order to accurately re-create this sculpture. It was definitely more of an artistic endeavor that a woodshop class. But, I definitely encourage you to experiment with cutting out gears or creating your own wheel designs because creating the design and doing the work is the best reward... Best of luck! -TFW

      I actually found my drawing on Google under the images option. There are a few there you can use! Size them as large or as small as you want and print them.
