The best Bollywood villain to this day in my opinion is Bhairav Singh from Udaan, perfectly played by Ronit Roy. He wasn't just a one dimensional abusive father but a man putting on a facade of tough masculinity while being completely broken on the inside by what his own father wanted him to be. As such, he is such a perfect contrast to the rebellious Rohan and his desire to break out of that cycle of abuse.

Brigadier Pratap was supposed to be a government backed propaganda but it backfired royally because of the performance by Kay Kay Menon. They used to air this movie on Doordarshan thinking that the people will find him a villain who needs to be hated. But most people with common sense are not idealistic people who want to live in their make belief world. They see the reality and therefore can relate with Brigadier Pratap.
I think his message especially hits home because he references his experiences in the line of battle vs someone who speaks about human rights tropes in their AC rooms. His thought process is concerning but it stems from his experience.
This is a better answer I have come across to be honest. Even though I still don't agree with notion that people think he was right bcs I see a prejudiced and radical character in him who didn't have any issue even corrupting his own fellow soldier to do what he wanted!!
He wasn’t prejudice until his servant a guy r@p** and killed his wife and daughter because of his ideology, a guy who brigadier pratap raised as a child. It caused him lifetime trauma and then what he says in the movie resonated with many people who got harmed by this certain ideology so it backfired. The iconic and most recognized villain of the silver screen is none other than Amjad Khan as Gabbar Singh. His classic dialogue, “Kitne Aadmi the?” is known by youngsters even now. In the life span of 52 years, he worked in 130 movies with influencing negative roles.
no after sholay amjad khan s negative character was never good and from late 80s he turned into small 5 -10 minutes screen space bcoz of his illness upto 1992 his last film
One notable performance which should be mentioned in this video is Bishnu played by Vidyut Jamwal in the movie Force who is brute , ferocious and carrying a no nonsense attitude. It was a memorable and brilliant portrayal of an antagonist in full commercial hindi movie which leaves a chilling impression in the mind of the viewer.
Bollywood has had a huge void since Amrish Puri's passing. Iconic characters like Mogambo and Chadda, among others, have been immortalized by his performances. That said, I personally believe that Amjad Khan's portrayal of Gabbar Singh in Sholay remains the ultimate embodiment of a Hindi film villain.
Ashutosh Rana in Dushman and Sangharsh, Abhimanyu Singh in Rakht Charitra. They were scary AF. But the one character in Bollywood which comes close to matching the greyish tone of the Joker in TDK is Aditya Shrivastav in Gulaal.
Best villain ever was Dewey from Scary Movie and you can fight me on it. He pretended to be crazy the whole time, got away with serial killing, got the girl, lit a cigarette and drove away in a convertible.
Bollywood has seen some truly iconic female villains, even if they aren’t as widely remembered as their male counterparts. (Think PC in Aitraaz (2004) and Tabu in Andhadhun..)
Even now I get chills down my spine when I remember the interrogation scene from Shaurya... what a performance played by KK Menon... 😬😬💯💯... very underrated film
Jammy! you missed one legendary villain, and that is Dr. Siddhant Arya from Krrish, portraited by Naseeruddin shah with such ease, it was over the top at times, but the man is a menace in a movie catered for Children and superhero buffs. Also who can forget Dr. Arya's iconic breaking the fourth wall with a news telecast like speech ....it wasn't as chilling but was definitely engaging, the whole time machine drama and him dying at the end looking at the face of Krishna that resembles exactly with Rohit (his dad).....truly iconic....PS I just feel bad that Krish is only remembered for Hrithik, while deservedly so .... but Shah sir was too iconic and had a sense of ease while portraying a typical over the top bollywood masala movie villain..
kali from kalki movie could be the most destructive, evil and interesting villain ever in history of cinema if nag ashwin understands the assignment. but bro is busy in karn glorification as of now. there is video on conversation between kalki and kali at the end of kaliyug, narrated by ashutosh rana on youtube, highly recommended. must watch.
Exactly. I have no idea from where Nag Ashwin got the idea that Karna was an incarnation of Mahadev and there could be some correlation between Rudra Avatar and Karna.
I don't understand why some people in the comments section call Shaurya' movie a propaganda movie that backfired!! I wonder because that film presented both sides of the argument with equal importance. I think people in a spree of hatred have forgotten that not everything should be seen as a political spectacle, unlike nowadays, when movies only show one side of the agenda.
I was waiting for the antagonist of minnal murali to come up . In my eye's he is probably one of the rare antagonist, who audience genuinely felt pain for, before him going completely maniac, people actually rooted for him and the women he liked to find way to work it out,The class and status difference, his own insecurities and mental instability just got the best of him. One of the few superhero movies nowadays where the villain is actually more stronger (in terms of presence ) .
For me ashutosh rana as villain was so horrifying i was scared for so many days but my favourite villains were Ronit roy in udaan and Nasruddin shah . But i think the OGs are Amrish puri and pran sahab❤
If you especially see Ashutosh Rana in his manic state in Sangharsh, The man is so transfixed by his deranged goal, he does not even blink. So terrifying
amrish puri was caricature .80s 90s films was more about hero worship heroes like amitabh mithun, anil kapur, sanjay dutt, govinda, sunny deol, jackie shroff etc
Villains in all movies are shown to be a villain by portraying him as a womaniser, blood stained killings. I love it when the villain plays mind games instead, a cat and mouse game. Thuppakki, Thani Oruvan, Maanaadu had villains who were intelligent and kept one-upping the hero.
Brigadier pratap is goat 🐐 His dialogue will for ages throughout history. One of most iconic character. If u have real life experience and knowledge with certain community. You will know truth of brigadier pratap words. Kashmir and Bangladesh incidents are recent examples. Throughout history that community has shown venom. If we want to handle that community it's brigadier pratap way to go. Ps jammy what happened to freedom of speech jammy. Dont delete my comments 😂
As an aspiring filmmaker, i always lived the question,"What makes a villain good?" Here's my answer. A villain is not someone who terrorizes the world, a villain is a someone who terrorizes the PROTAGONIST. Thanos from the Avengers, Joker from the Dark Knight, Death from the Puss in Boots, and many more are some examples. We are not watching a movie to see how the world is saved, we are seeing how the protagonist faces the challenges. The whole movie is focused on him, we have to see how he faces his challenges both on a professional and personal level. We enjoy and relate the struggles. I don't remember any villain from Bollywood who has done this, if u guys remember then do recommend me. From the comments i am seeing the name of brigadier Pratap repeatedly, and that shows how good the movie was. He not only challenged the protagonist, he basically challeged the whole propaganda of the movie!. Let's hope that in the future we see such a villain in the future.
One of the best videos I've seen in a while . The compelling stories amd ideology of the popele involved, perfectly sums up our society and some goes beyond it. Thanos and joker are the 2 polar opposite characters . This shows that a monster with a lot of superpowers is less dangerous than a man who has lost everything in his life. Like brigadier pratap.
People in comments aren't understanding the whole point of Brigadier Pratap , the movie having an antagonist doesn't mean it's necessarily a bad person , why is it always that you need a villian and a hero? He has an extension of his trauma which is concerning but totally correct if you look from his perspective, which is supposed to be the point of the movie as per the portrayal. It might be a propoganda movie , but it's good and the characters make real life vestiges feel similar is because the movie is more like Kashmir Files , not like Kerala Story.
Great point!! Also the character seems to be well written not just well acted a lot of people seem to forget that. Unfortunately people will just see what they want to see
The Left-Izlamo lobby tried to portray Brigadier Pratap as a villain but Mass of the nation made him their hero. Brigadier Pratap probably the most celebrated Army Officer of Films till date.
It makes me afraid when so many people just don't find Brigadier Pratap compelling and extremely tragic (it still gives me the chills "chilkh rahi thi woh"); but somehow..... Right.
Sanjay Dutt as Kancha and Rishi Kapoor as Rauf Lala in Agneepath! That scene where Rauf Lala is selling off Vijay's sister eventually leading to the face off is spine-chilling. And how Kancha hates his own reflection so much that he wants all the mirrors destroyed all because he was bullied as a child. Amazing character work by both actors!
This reminds me of Badshah Khan's journey in the movie Black Friday, which is tragically relatable. He starts as an ordinary, even naive guy, seeking purpose and belonging, but gets manipulated and drawn into terrorism. His journey from an average person to becoming involved in something so horrific is a chilling reminder that this could happen to anyone, making his story both disturbing and compelling.

There are hundreds of court martial each year, if Army men were flawless then there would be none. Army as an institution understands that soldiers can commit wrong deeds, thus court martial system.
Dude made the best thumbnail out of all videos so far and thought we wouldn't notice.Content will be good as always.
Bhallaladeva from BB2 is an Iconically great Villain having both the Power and Brains to pull every string within the Plot.
kudos to kay kay menon's brilliant acting performance in shaurya which shattered the toxic agenda director tried to push through the film.
Which toxic agenda the director was having?
I think Walter White slowly becoming Heisenburg in Breaking Bad is one of the best hero to Villain story❤
Unpopular Opinion: brigadier Pratap was right abt what he said. Word for word.

Anyone paresh rawal from No smoking!!! He not only nailed that character but also his character was such symbol of control perfectly written by anurag kashyap!!
Brigadier Pratap was the hero of the movie and not the villain. Also Naseeruddin Shah in A Wednesday was not even shown as a villain in the movie. He was the main hero of the movie
A hero who allowed his own soldiers to be corrupted and allow them to kill people going against a code of law set by soldiers and a person who was highly prejudiced because of personal experience

Captain Javed Khan and Amrita Rao were the real villains.
Brigadier pratap was really a savage character which deserves a spin off movie about what turned him into this type of personality. All thanks to brilliant performance by KK menon
I know the people rave about movie and lead but Rana Dagubatti as 'Bhallaldeva' is just incredible, took 2 generations to conquer him and made people fall in love with epics.
Well written, top tier acting and legendary execution by SS Rajamouli sir.
Joker was the hero... He wanna make batman understand, he can't fight forever... Gotham has to step up...
Joker is the best villain I ever seen... I really believe his theory....
Love this content.. Well done bro
Naseeruddin shah in Krrish was amazing
Yup
Underrated villain
We need more of these kind of videos ❤
Best villain ever was Dewey from Scary Movie and you can fight me on it. He pretended to be crazy the whole time, got away with serial killing, got the girl, lit a cigarette and drove away in a convertible.
Don't forget these legendary villains..
Crime Master Gogo
Kabira Speaking
Totla Seth
Bulla
RDX
Listening to Jammy's description I only can remember Sidharth Abhimanyu . Aravind Swamy's iconic role in Thani oruvan (a man apart ) .
It’s not unnaipol oruvan it’s Thani Oruvan, unnaipol oruvan was the Tamil Remake of A Wednesday
@dvyas92 yes you are right . Thanks
Bollywood has seen some truly iconic female villains, even if they aren’t as widely remembered as their male counterparts. (Think PC in Aitraaz (2004) and Tabu in Andhadhun..)
I think John's character in Pathaan was almost a perfect villain character.
Ritesh Deshmukh in Ek Villain gave me chills
Powerful villians make powerful heros
Then they get killed. And Powerful heroes go weak.
Q) What makes a Bollywood movie villain iconic?
A:- "WRITERS" (Freedom of writing) 🙌🎥✨
Brigadier Pratap was the Peak of Acting. Kay Kay Menon is a legend. Right up there with The Best of The Best.
Bruh.. Pakshi Rajan gave me trauma. I felt so much empathy for him.
Even now I get chills down my spine when I remember the interrogation scene from Shaurya... what a performance played by KK Menon... 😬😬💯💯... very underrated film
film is pretty dumb ad filled with propaganda but KK MENON KILLED ALL OF THEM
i just skipped everything and kk menon has only 3-4 scenes whenever he appears i forget to breath

Jammy! you missed one legendary villain, and that is Dr.
Watchmen is the best film.. Where you can't decide to support heroes or hate them
13:45 it is still so true. Nothing has changed since 700 AD
kali from kalki movie could be the most destructive, evil and interesting villain ever in history of cinema if nag ashwin understands the assignment. but bro is busy in karn glorification as of now. there is video on conversation between kalki and kali at the end of kaliyug, narrated by ashutosh rana on youtube, highly recommended. must watch.
Exactly. I have no idea from where Nag Ashwin got the idea that Karna was an incarnation of Mahadev and there could be some correlation between Rudra Avatar and Karna.
Another villain who was created and made us believe his cause is Killmonger in Black Panther wonderfully performed by Jordon.
Jammy works so much to make such videos.......hats off man 🙏🏻🫴🏻
Pratap ji fanbois still angry.
KK Menon's Brigadier Pratap is the only one from bollywood who is equal to Heath Ledger's Joker.
That was an amazing video. Thanks of calling out exceptional movies for what they are. Your talent shows. 👏
Brigadier pratap was always right
I was waiting for the antagonist of minnal murali to come up .
Need more videos on such topic from u bro! ❤
So terrifying
amrish puri was caricature .80s 90s films was more about hero worship heroes like amitabh mithun, anil kapur, sanjay dutt, govinda, sunny deol, jackie shroff etc
i think it was his 3rd film ashutosh rana

This is the best video on this channel till date; the storytelling and the script was just so spot on!!!
"Villains are not born they are made"
Amitabh Bachchan in "Aankhen"
I actually disagree with this. Some people are kinda just born evil. If you don’t reform them as kids, they’ll screw you.
Unfortunately people will just see what they want to see
We want a movie on Brig Pratap.. such a bold character ❤👏👌👌

Right.
Because people don't want to support extremist ideas. Terrorist does that.
Long Live Brigadier Pratap
Yeah, I have to agree that Pakshi Rajan had a strong argument to make in 2.0. making me feel for him and weirdly cry at the end of the movie.
Honestly one of the most underrated villains is Wagah by Akshay Khanna from Dishoom , man was a charisma powerhouse in that movie
He wasn't written properly
Vishal jethwa from Maardani 2 he gave me chills I never hated the character so much in a movie he was so realistic in portrayal of the character
The villain has to be a better actor than the hero Amjad better than Dharmendra, Amrish Puri better than Anil,KK better than Rahul etc
Best Villain performances by Amrish Puri Saab -Tridev,Vishwatma, Mr India,Indiana Jones,Ghayal, Gadar, Waaris,Jeet,Kala Pani, Meri Jung,Shahenshah,Nagina, Thalapathi,Karan arjun nd many more best Villain ever to grace Indian Cinema❤️💯
i have a gut feeling that don lee's character from sandeep reddy vanga's spirit is gonna be some of the most badass and iconic villains in indian cinema if vanga doesn't waste his potential like he did with abrar haque in animal, to a certain extent.
Abrar is iconic villain. His entry is remembered forever
@nepotsuki6856 wasted potential in the sense, the runtime could've more and back story could have been explored. he is iconic obviously, thats why i wrote 'to a certain extent' in last line.
Be assured, Don Lee's character indeed will be wasted as he has to show Prabhas as the badass hero. 😂😂
He literally dies in animal bro stop yapping
Naseeruddin Shah in Mirch Masala as antagonist is quite good
Aishwarya Rai in Khakhee....man, it was wild to see her character reveal her true colours 😮
