Did you do or plan to do the US and how social media algorithm boost misinformation created to flood and confused legitimate information - espec6through confirmation bias? How about the US media outlets like Fox News also - how their viewers never actually saw the attack on the nation's capital?
Genuine question, I'd like to see the social media one as an interesting contrast to the Chinese approach of removing or suppressing information.

The speech and the action, why do westerners only emphasize the complete freedom of speech, but keep silent about the complete freedom of action? For example, I want to cross an intersection at any time, but traffic rules and traffic lights limit this action freedom.
here Im not against traffic rules, I just want to say that all the logic of the existence of traffic rules can be completely applied to speech.
In other words, speech also needs a set of "traffic rules and traffic lights."

People need to stop assuming the internet is necessary to generate social movements. They have existed for thousands of years before the internet was invented, the only thing we do by fetishizing the internet as a social cohesion tool (which arguably divides more than it unifies) is to generate more conformity.

Without liberalism then any grassroots movement is basically dead on arrival. If its too radical then it will quite literally be dead on arrival, with the Gestapo or KGB knocking on your door. You have no leverage on the powers above you besides some soft advocacy (like how Putin tries to appeal to the communists in Russia). Or like Deng Xiaoping who was convinced to open up China to the global market. Dictators are only swayed by positive reinforcement

Do you often socialise in disguise while shouting behind a hedge? Most of us aren't in our daily lives. Internet, to serve its purpose for democracy, has to adapt to social norms. Sadly undemocratic America is controlling most of its social aspects as of now and it's a nation that isn't able to comprehend that freedom doesn't come without responsibility. But fundamentally the world just has 'a sociopath problem', no matter which side of the firewall you are.

    • @LAKD

Then you're just bad at asking questions. My whole job revolves about OpenAI and llms. The video criticizing China's internet control presents a one-sided view, framing it as inherently negative. However, it fails to consider the broader context, particularly when comparing China's approach to the unchecked "freedom" of the internet in the United States. While the video portrays China's internet regulation as oppressive, it overlooks the consequences of a completely unregulated digital space, which has contributed to the U.S. sliding toward a more authoritarian, expansionist, and fascist regime
In my view, China made the right decision to protect its internet from American influence. It is evident that China today is far more democratic than the U.S., if we understand democracy as ensuring the well-being and will of the people, rather than merely voting for a president. It’s worth noting that China also holds elections, though not for a president, and has never imposed its system on other countries. Meanwhile, the U.S. claims for democracy while its policies increasingly benefit only the billionaire class, not the working population. For instance, China's minimum wage has doubled over the past decade, while in the U.S., it has remained stagnant for over 20 years. Meanwhile, the wealth of American billionaires continues to grow at an alarming rate, fueled by exploitation and inequality.
As someone from South America, I can attest that the U.S. has no moral authority to speak about democracy. Historically, the U.S. has financed and supported dictatorships and fascist groups across Latin America, and this interference continues to this day. This is well documented in history books and evident in the struggles of our region. The so called "freedom" promoted by the U.S. comes at the expense of Latin America's exploitation and suffering
In conclusion, contrary to what the video suggest. that the lack of protests in China is due to internet control under an authoritarian regime. I believe that can be ONE reason but the real reason is that the lives of Chinese workers have consistently improved. This progress fosters social stability and reduces the need for widespread dissent. The video’s narrative overlooks this crucial point, instead framing China’s policies as purely oppressive. In reality, the Chinese government’s focus on improving living standards and ensuring economic growth has created a society where the majority of people see tangible benefits, which is the true foundation of stability.

Good video, but with some inaccuracy. The Tiananmen Square massacre wasn’t exactly a protest for democracy, much more over education and corruption, some of them were there also for democracy, but didn’t started for that. Also the lack of major protests isn’t exactly as correlated to the censorship as you imply, It is much more correlated to the social and economical improvements of the last 20 years. The Chinese had a much more positive attitude to the future compared to the west. Good video, but focus to much on the understanding of the world by an American perspective, not a Chinese one

Just to add, the Tiananmen massacre was a myth. No denying that there were casualties in the 1989 uprising. The number of casualties varies dramatically depending on the source. A state report published in the Government Gazette of the State Council about a month after the riots, cites at least 200 "non-soldier casualties," while other reports show higher numbers. For example, a New York Times field correspondent estimated 400 to 800 deaths shortly after the clashes. Some sources, such as a secret diplomatic cable released in 2017, have cited 10,000 killings in the events surrounding the Tiananmen uprising, but reporters present in China at the time generally doubt this figure. There are no reliable estimates about how many people were killed in those events, not only in Beijing, but also in other cities, and not only protesters but also onlookers. But the fact that the army killed scores of unarmed people is beyond question. Lastly, the term ''Tiananmen Square Massacre'' is often used by US officials like the US Foreign Ministers over the years.

Bill Clinton misjudged the situation by believing that China would start respecting WTO rules once it joined. He allowed China to become a member despite its non-market economy status and continued disregard for WTO trade rules. In my view, the Great Firewall is more an example of market protectionism and a non-WTO market economy than censorship.
The reality was that America was eager to access China's vast pool of cheap labor, underestimating the long-term consequences. Fast forward 20 years, and the situation has evolved. Initially, the struggle was to compete with an endless supply of cheap, educated labor in mega supply chain cities, where workers lacked rights and faced no manufacturing disruptions. Now, the challenge is to compete with the Chinese market and its enormous new middle class.

    1. Google's exit from China was not due to any so-called democracy, but because its Chinese search function was inferior to Baidu (a Chinese Internet company).
    2. The Great Firewall gives China the opportunity to cultivate its own Internet companies and become the country with the most developed Internet industry in the world after the United States.
    3. The Chinese government does not care about ordinary people using VPNs to bypass the Great Firewall, and it is not considered a crime. In fact, there are many free and paid VPN software available for download on the Chinese Internet. Those who can't even download a VPN software are truly of low cognitive ability and are more likely to be deceived by various low-intelligence anti-China videos on the English Internet. For those who can bypass the Great Firewall, they at least have some ability to judge the authenticity of information.

But boy, this is like the laziest content (despite the fancy animations) that doesn't inform you anything new at all, and it's been like this for the past few videos. Also you can call 12345 to report issues to local gov and usually they take care of the problem pretty quick.

As a Chinese person, I can share my perspective on this issue. On one hand, the U.S. has used various methods to promote what it calls a "democratization process" in China. However, their true intention isn't to genuinely help China become democratic, but rather to manipulate the public and push for the overthrow of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). For decades, they have used this strategy to encourage regime change in ways that benefit their own interests. On the other hand, the CCP does conduct large-scale censorship, especially targeting discussions about Xi Jinping. For example, on social media, any comments about Xi or the CCP are not allowed. The government imposes strict control over news, such as when Xi visited a market in Shenyang last week, and a suicide bombing occurred there three days later. You won’t find any related information on Chinese websites, and comments will be deleted. The CCP is extremely sensitive now. As the video mentioned, they fear people gathering-whether it's for Halloween cosplay in parks, or large groups riding bikes on the street. Even if there are police maintaining order, simply gathering to sing is unacceptable to the CCP. They fear crowds, opinions, and any foreign influence, so they choose to ban all of it. In summary, the CCP is afraid that the public might be misled by false information or foreign forces, so they’ve built the Great Firewall. They also fear any challenge to their authority, which is why they carry out extensive censorship to remove any dissenting voices. Finally, I want to mention that successful Chinese products like TikTok, DeepSeek, and games like *Black Myth: Wukong* and *Genshin Impact* have no direct connection to the CCP. The government usually only takes notice of these products after they’ve succeeded. I hope this doesn’t make you dislike these products or games.

Chinese are too nice to the American and the west I should say (I'm not saying you guys should be rude to them but be careful of what they are trying to do to you China!). You guys need to know more about the true intention of the west, you will be surprised and you should really be worried of the west. Like you said, USA trying to spread democracy in China is not for the good of the Chinese people but rather for the interest of American empire and how they can easily manipulated and destabilized your country using the excuses of democracy and overthrow your government. They have overthrown many democratic government and installed dictatorship or authoritarian or puppets government in countries like Iran, Ukraine and many countries in Latin America. It's never about democracy vs Communism. It's all about maintaining US hegemony over the world.
Remember the 'China hundred years of humiliation' in the hands of western powers. This should give you a clue that if China let the west manipulate the Chinese internal affairs and politics, China will suffer another 200 years of humiliation. Brutal history lesson should be taken seriously as the west is trying to play out the same playbook to destabilized China. The west, US in particular, can't seem to wait for China to collapsed and it's people to suffer like in the past. Be careful.!

And we IBM started to call it “China’s Great Firewall” internally when we saw that CCP started to use it cutting off their own people from rest of the world on internet. IBM and CISCO closed almost all offices and fired many Chinse employees in the last year China… Such a change of CCP China after Xi became their chairman, it seems like they are going back to behind of the bamboo curtain again like pre 1970’s.
