Honestly, the idea of Pilaf's gang having a Saiyan is really funny. Like, he's at least 10x stronger than anyone else in this part of the series, but sheer comedic bumbling keeps him from ever being a major threat.

So often you see big name actors get either a bad role, or are just in a not great movie, and they half ass it and get paid prolly hundreds of times more for those roles than guys like Pilaf who give 1000000% of their being for roles like this. This is someone who just loves acting and always gives it their all, even for a role that's paying them peanuts. Not that they would or should work for free, but imagine getting...what, a few grand for this probably? Maybe less since this is a relatively old movie and inflation a bitch and S.Koreas economy has never been super amazing. Now imagine 'insert big name hollywood supertsar here' who'd need to be paid millions for this role and would put in significantly less effort unless they themselves were a DB fan and were just happy to be able to goof around in a movie such as this. That Pilaf actor is the GOAT and mad respect to every actor in this movie. Peak art. Peak passion. Peak entertainment. All making up for the...questionable overall quality (but considering the work and detail put into some things, you just know most of the bad quality was budget. Even the crap editing is probably because they couldn't hire good/experienced professional editors and it was probably the director or something going 'fuck it, I'll figure it out' lol.).

Thunderbolt Fantasy is great. It's a Japnese-Taiwanese action fantasy puppet series made by the creators of PILI a Taiwanese puppet epic show that was airing since the mid 80s. Thunderbolt Fantasy is actually a spin-off of PILI. It's a stand alone story that isn't connected to the original show's plot but a couple of characters from PILI does make brief cameos.
I remember coming across the whole film in the early days of youtube. I remember it being very Power Rangers / Future Cops-esque but somehow maintaining a DB feel.
Never expected Thunderboldt Fantasy to get mentioned. But yes, the show is amazing. The soundtrack its so good because its Hiroyuki Sawano, the guy that made the SNK OST

The little laser on her forehead that she can fire and the blade. There's a lot of enemies and other shows that have references too Ultraman Kamen Rider Godzilla Super Sentai. Obviously the most recent anime dandadan has a LOT.
Good Thunderbolt Fantasy mention for those who like Wuxia. I know some people think the puppets are goofy but if your down with it you're in for quite the show. Season 1 is still my favorite as it feels the most like a full story, but if you enjoy the characters the following seasons are still fun with great twists and turns.
God I love thunderbolt fantasy so much, it's criminally underated here in the west and personally season 2 is my favorite season I just love the characters so much in that season
@brandnamepending4817 Season 2 definitely introduces a bunch of new characters that are all great. Very strong cast that continue to get used moving forward. I just really like the dynamic of the first season where none of the characters are really what they seem at first and pays off in a really satisfying way. But I do love how Season 2 shifts towards the last third. Very fun set of villains.
I remember this being in blockbuster and this was right next to the Korean Street Fighter Movie, which oddly enough was licensed unlike the adaptation of Dragon Ball.

Fun fact for everyone! Chi-Chi's helmet as a kid is based off of a Tokusaku call Ultraman. The exact ultra band is called ultra seven. The little laser on her forehead that she can fire and the blade. There's a lot of enemies and other shows that have references too Ultraman Kamen Rider Godzilla Super Sentai. Obviously the most recent anime dandadan has a LOT.

Good Thunderbolt Fantasy mention for those who like Wuxia. I know some people think the puppets are goofy but if your down with it you're in for quite the show. Season 1 is still my favorite as it feels the most like a full story, but if you enjoy the characters the following seasons are still fun with great twists and turns.
God I love thunderbolt fantasy so much, it's criminally underated here in the west and personally season 2 is my favorite season I just love the characters so much in that season
@brandnamepending4817 Season 2 definitely introduces a bunch of new characters that are all great. Very strong cast that continue to get used moving forward. I just really like the dynamic of the first season where none of the characters are really what they seem at first and pays off in a really satisfying way. But I do love how Season 2 shifts towards the last third. Very fun set of villains.
