Was put off the Mk8 because of the infotainment. But my 7.5 was the perfect point and shoot for me. Easily quick enough day to day and economical too. High 30’s mpg around town, and nearer 50 on a long run at motorway speeds. Honestly couldn’t fault it. Kept it 2 years 10k miles and sold it for what I paid for it because of used shortage. All in all the best car I’ve had bar none.
I had a mk8R for 9 months. Sold it to buy a Mk7.5R. the MK7.5 is the better car. The MK8 still feels like a prototype on the inside. Nothing is awful (except the touch controls and the infotainment that was designed by a GCSE student), but there's so many tiny things VW have skimped on - it's death by a thousand cuts. All the plastic trim is so thin, the doors sound empty, there's no cup holder cover, the gas bonnet strut is missing, the headlight washers are gone, as are directional lights, as is the nicer pillar materials, and the very cool phone cubby. And... The boot trim.... It's like off a Dacia.

Nice purchase Paul 👊 Even though my wife drives something with 600+ hp the GTI would still be my choice for enjoyment. Some of the proper stuff is too quick nowadays. First upgrade to mine was an under bonnet gas strut. Check out the guys at dark ice designs. 👍
I just got a MK7.5 R the other day.. I did want a Facelift A45 but I thought the R is the better financial decision currently and potentially wait till the 45s come lower in value and get that in a year or so...

He's bought many cars throughTony's contacts, but I don't think he's actually bought a single car from Tony. However, I'm not 100% sure, so my question is genuine. Beautiful car! I had a fantastic 7.5 which was just exceptional, and changed to an 8 a few weeks ago. The difference is stark between the 2. Driving is awesome with the 8 but the fuel economy even when having “fun” is waaaaaaaaay down. Infotainment system is ok when you get used to it. Not as easy as the 7.5.

@@adambailey7064 My point should be clear. He bought a daily. The GR Yaris is not a good choice for a daily, whereas the Golf GTi is. The GR Yaris is arguably a better car. It is also arguably a better purchase. If this were Hot Hatches of London, OR if Paul had been looking for a third car, you could well be right. As it stands, in context, I don't think you are. That's all. You're 100% entitled to hold a different opinion! But I really think you should have gotten my point without me having to ram it home. Anyway, Paul's loss is potentially someone else's gain. Maybe yours? Given a strong projected residual value, I would imagine a particularly good finance deal could be had, if by any chance you're interested for yourself.
I wouldn't go newer than a Golf 7 or 7.5, but that's preference. A bloody good daily me thinks. I quite like white cars, but i do agree.. Spec on this one is a lot better. Congratulations :)
I think your comment pretty much nails it. I agree re Mk7/7.5, but if Paul prefers the new interior, and can get along with the infotainment issues, the Mk8 is still an excellent choice for a daily, and this black car does suit Paul better. I'd have gone with the white one, just because I can't think of a worse colour for a daily than black. But if I were actually going down this route myself, I'd have found a nice Mk7/7.5...cheaper, better quality (these Mk8s are down on overall quality), and IMO, the older tech is better, easier to use, and doesn't detract from both the driving and overall experience.
I suspect his biggest fear right now is the huge potential losses. Most of the good value supercars have gone up at least 30-40k. I doubt he can afford to take the hit that's almost certainly looming. He's also always been a relatively conservative buyer, but he's taken a few big hits. On top of that: His views and therefore his income is down. He's lost a lot of credibility. He seems to have personal and/or creativity problems. I don't think owning his own supercar will save him. But he certainly needs to regularly feature suppercars on his channel, rather than the likes of 4x4s and hot hatches.
The main problem with the Fiesta is down to supply. Long wait times. Potentially multiple delays. And the likelihood that the car they offer you won't be what you ordered. Options you really want could be missing. Thay may even offer you a different colour. On top of that, it seems the Fiesta is going out of production in the near future. Other than these issues, the Fiesta ST is at least relatively speaking, good value. If you really want a brand new hot hatch, the risks may be worth taking. Just realise, you may not get the car you ordered, or you may have to wait a long time to do so. Best of luck.
He needs to at least feature more supercars. I don't think owning his own will save him, but it would help rebuild his credibility somewhat. No escaping the fact that he needs to feature new cars and other people's supercars. He needs to rebuild, for sure. Problem is if he buys a supercar now he could take a massive hit, unless he starts all over again and gets something like an R8 V10 manual, which is relatively low risk in terms of depreciation.
