2:25 In 1899, 11 Year old Guitarist Joseph Kekuku invented the Slide Guitar. The Original Slide Guitar was a Standard Guitar with a Converter Nut slipped in to raise the strings and played with a Slide.

Joseph Kekuku was the guy who invented the Slide Guitar when he was 11 years old and he really inspired a new generation of Guitarists to play with a slide. India actually added more strings to it.

Joseph Kekuku invented the Hawaiian steel guitar. Check out, Kika Kila - How The Hawaiian Steel Guitar Changed The Sound Of Modern Music, by John W. Troutman. Aloha!

In the American poor southerners used bailing or fence wire stretched between nails typically on a porch played with a bottle. Sometimes referred to as a "diddly bo(ard)"

A Short History of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar
The video talks about how the Hawaiian steel guitar fits into Hawaii's musical history. It ends with Malie Lyman playing the steel guitar at a Kanikapila at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is accompanied by her grandfather Erick Keawe, her mother Mandy Lyman, and Alan Akaka. He is one of the world's top steel guitar players and the former president of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association.

The notion that Mexicans brought the first guitars to Hawaii seems logical, but it ignores the thousands of ships (most of which had musical instruments onboard) that visited the islands before the Mexican vaqueros.

Jerry Byrd in his book tells how a young man came down from "Mormon" hill and started the steel guitar movement.

Terrible Hawaiian pronunciation distracted me from listening to the content, but the pronunciation of the Spanish words sounded much better. You should have shown a master steel guitar player like Alan Akaka performing.

About that so-called European invasion: Europeans brought the civilization with its many benefits that you all enjoy. A little gratitude on your part would be nice.

Polynesians already had a civilization thousands of self-sustaining years trading between Asia and Americas long before Columbus's birth and still navigate today. Kingdoms had been established prior to europeans arrival which is by the way translated to Great(big) interruption.
Polynesian culture is very much alive and does have the ability to adopt, adapt or hybridize new favourable technologies while retaining cultural protocol and traditions and casts out new tech or ideas found harmful or distasteful.
Further more aside from the Amerucan Revolutionary War, Hawaiians have fought in EVERY American war and conflict til this very day. Sons of Hawaiian Chiefs were amongst the earliest US Marine ranks who sailed to Africa and Middle East to free captured American and European ships who were being enslaved and sold by Arab Pirates.
So yes, thanks for sharing the new tech, its quite fun and convenient.
A trade fair in gratitude for the freedom and restoration of honor you enjoy today.
      In other words🎶 Your Welcome ! 🎶
