I'm working on an old I believe 61 if not then 60's era vw type3 squareback so this information is greatly appreciated. Now I just gotta find some way to repair the frame....
Thanks, if I manage to get the engine running, perhaps I'll upload it to youtube. Unfortunately she'll never be original again so I'd rather not risk getting hate comments when trying my best to restore the frame and bodywork with a limited amount of cash flow. So it would probably just be the engine if it runs.
@@vdubjunkie I'm surprised how big of a difference it made for me, hands down the best Penelope has run unfortunately I the she had a catastrophic clutch failure the other day! So she's down again.../
You must have got the last ceramic coated one from ISPwest. Called them yesterday and they have no ETA when it may be back in stock. Super bummed about it. Going to have to just wait it out. Man it looks and sounds great 👍 Thx for the links too.
Funny, I just did the opposite on my 67 Squareback. Refurbished ISP West stock muffler and upper rear heat exchangers. Sounds quieter on my 1600cc than the previous Bugpack.
Those big packs were always known to be loud, right? I’m wanting to retain my stock system, not only for heat in the cab, but also because they close up the under cylinder air flow properly.
@@mileageunknown8910 I used 2” black rubber plugs/caps They come with the clamps from Home Depot and for the smaller tube above it I used 1” rubber chair leg tips that go in the legs of chairs with round legs work 👍
So, it doesn't seem 2 have caused issues with the bellows itself, when I originally purchased this from isp west he'd said he'd been running one on his car for 10ish years..... my Fasty seems 2 run hot no matter what I do be it the stock or aftermarket exhaust so idk that it's playing a factor? I swear I saw someone had made a heatshield I'll see if I can find it.
@@mileageunknown8910 Socalimports has been really helpful with the concerns and said with the 1 inch clearance I should be ok Ordered delete tins for the j tubes from ISP should help a bit I hope
I just finished installing the same exhaust system into a 1973 squareback with heater boxes. My muffler is touching solid against the rubber bellows. I'm sure this isn't good. Did you find a solution to this issue? Do you have any heat damage to your bellow?
So I had to pull then engine back out of my Fasty, the clutch pretty much self destructed. When I pulled the engine back out I found no melted bellows it looked as good as new, I drove the car for about a month before the clutch went out so It had quite a few heat cycles, still something I'll keep an eye on.
Sounds good from New England.
Thanks for checking it out!
Car sounded good!
Thanks! I’m excited 2 be working on it again!!
Sounds mean!!
Its crazy how different it sounds!

That's awesome! Squarebacks are cool I hope you get it going!

The exhaust does sound great! Nice find on the plug wire too. How freaking long is that thing?! Now you’ve got me thinking about my exhaust!
Yeah definitely longer then it needed 2 be!
@@mileageunknown8910 Glad you got that found. I feel good about my plug wires, but I am wondering if my exhaust may be overly restricting.

Yeah when I first found them on their site they were back ordered and the second I saw they had them I jumped on it! Thanks for checking out the vid!

I loved how quiet the og was I just think it was choking my engine a bit. It’s running better now then ever!
I bet you could sell that old exhaust system and heat exchangers for a pretty penny. ISP West might even buy it to refurbish it.

Did you plug the heater channel going in the car also with same red plugs
No but it should! Not a bad idea at all!

@@reinaldorivera4158 nice! Looks like my engine is coming out for a clutch issue so that'll be a perfect time 2 plug those up!
Have you ran into any issues with the muffler being so close to the bellows? If so what was the fix?

I like the sound of the new exhaust. Can you run that same exhaust with the heater boxes?
Yes this same exhaust can be run with heater boxes, I was really tempted 2 keep mine but here in AZ I just don’t use the heater enough

Hummm, running on all 4 ...
Yeah that might have a bit of an affect!
Heaters are highly overrated
I mean I do live in the desert! Lol 😂 I can’t believe how good it sounds!
