I love The Statler Brothers so much it's hard to put into words what separates them I've been in music nut my entire life I think the greatest era of music is 1935 to 1980 The Statler Brothers had something so special it seems song after song after song was great when I lost my Elizabeth the Elizabeth album came out I must have listened to that song A thousand Times I used to watch that show on the country channel with my mom who love that show you know they had that on a few years in the 90s well I don't want to bore you just nice to talk to somebody who loves The Statler Brothers
I love this song but it always makes me cry My Mom died when I was 11and I changed the words some and put her nme in it even though its been 5 yrs i always cry when I play this
This song, in 2020, lifts my spirits and gives me a break from reality. I am a Christian and these songs make me very happy. I didn't hear about one of the band members' death, so may he rest in peace. Country gospel vs. Modern songs. (Thumbs down this comment if you'd vote for modern, thumbs up if you'd vote for Country Gospel)
My son broke baraton!! We drove around the woods..twins in their carseats, Anthony in his seatbelts..my son Tristan Twin would be sitting in the pasengers seat..He., we..mom and the kids..singing.. praising JESUS!! Good family
Thank you Harold Reid RIP and The Statler Brothers for a lifetime of cherished music. You all gave us so much joy through the years and still for many years to come thanks to the recordings.
I'm 86 and i love the Statler bro music in here. If not for here I could not afford to buy the music. I think U Tube every day for their music and all the others
and this is the first version i've found that included the verse about one that i love so well. for me, that one is my beautiful wife who i lost in 2001.
My Granny taught me to play this on a child's upright Piano when I was just about 6 years old it's what got me to playing the Piano By ear..Thanks for that precious memory being brought back to my mind. Sincerely Connie C
We sang this at my Mom's funeral She was the Church organist for years and choirs got together and say with us her favorites that day . So I still hear her sweet voice when I sing this ...And my brothers going "COME,COME,COME" Trying to make me smile just bit on our saddest day.
I live in Iowa, less than an hour away from the church. It is a congregational church. In the back, you can buy suveniers on the "honor system", including sheet music of the song. There are pictures of the man who wrote it before the church was even built. It makes you feel that you are in a very special sacred place as soon as you enter its doors. I found something very few people do. They have some decor trinkets on what appears to be a table but it is a portable pump (Reed) organ. That was the first style organ I ever played! That was a huge treat for me. It was folded down but I saw the bellows and foot pumps. I was in Heaven by seeing that!
Going to miss that tremendous voice of Harold Reid but I take comfort that along with the rest of Statler Bros he has left enough behind for me to remember and cherish their unforgettable Gospel music for a long time our loss is Heaven’s gain. God keep you Harold.
As a very young kid this was one of those”car trip” songs that we sang over & over & over. . .It’s seared in my brain. Love these guys & their harmony!
The Goodwill Family sung this a lot. it was my grandma Aunt martha, her brother Slim Wilson, and a friend Uncle George who was Guy Smith. later, George Rhodes sang the bass part and my Dad Speedy haworth joined in as well. When My grandma died in 67, i joined in and sang her part.
I've never been an openly religious person preferring to keep my beliefs on a personal level. I've heard this song countless times. But something compelled me to click on it and listen - and it sounded better than I'd ever heard it before.
I can remember listening to the Statler Brothers when I was little sitting in my Granddaddy’s lap on A Saturday night I miss him so much he died in 1989 with cancer Harold we will miss you and that deep voice may You R.I.P. my heart ❤️ goes to your family and your many fans
Now this is the era of the music we love and treasure that always "tells a story" we all can relate to, no matter our age!! In our town, we all meet once a week with a live band each week and dance to the "oldies" country/western songs, and the "Good Time Rock 'N Roll" 1950's songs. We are the only no cigarette smoking, no alcohol drinking and no illegal drugs allowed. We had 98 customers last week. Yes, we hire 3 Security Guards to watch our vehicles. We are trying to be role models to teach the young generation they can have a lot of fun, stay out of jail and live longer by following our footsteps!! Please keep up the great music!!
Roanna Eason sounds like a good place to live. I am so tired of the music so many of our churches use now. Too loud, never know when they will end, and nothing to hum on your way home.
We sang this every Sunday when I was a kid at a real life little brown church. Love this version. Harold is effortless and Jimmy's tenor just ties it all together. Great job.
I visited the "little brown church" just before moving to Iowa only an hour away in Minnesota it's incredible to actually enter it. I found out then that the sing was written not too long BEFORE the church was built. It is a Congregational Church and dozens of weddings are performed there every year. The piano and organ are back to back but I noticed something during my visit that few do. In the left side of the church there is a table with a few decorations on it. I looked UNDER it discover it WASN'T a table at all! It was an old pump (Reed) organ that may or may not have been the original organ used by the church! It was the highlight of my visit since I learned to play on one in the Seventies! WOW!
@Jack Kircher This church is in my home town, Nashua, Iowa. I didn't know that about the pump and I also didn't know the Statler Brothers did this cover! Thx
I always watched their shows and probably was watching the night this was taped! My best to all the members of the Statler Bros. Quartet. Hope they are enjoying retirement.
A beautiful version of a beautiful song. it is The Statlers, after all, who never made a less than perfect offering of everything they sang. I live in England, and was blessed to discover the Statler Brothers in the early 1970s, and never tire of hearing their wonderful harmonies. Country music being sung as it was intended to be sung. RIP Harold, very sad to hear of your departure. Gods' wonderful choir will be enhanced by your arrival and that incredible deep brown voice!!
Always a favorite group of mine and so down to earth. I went to one of their concerts in 1980 and afterwards they literally came out, sat down on the stage and met with everyone that wanted to meet with them. They chatted with us with no worry of time, no expectations , just like four men chatting with a group. So humble, so wonderful and so real. If you haven't read their book you should. Better yet, get the audio version because Harold Reid narrates it and it's wonderful.
I have always loved this hymn! Many years ago it was always requested as a hymn at a Sunday night service. When we would have hymn sing portion. Good memories!
I got to see these guys at Delta State University's Sillers Coliseum many years ago. They were always the consummate performers. I miss their show on TV...as they always closed with a hymn or gospel song. Wish it could be that way today.
One of my very favorite inspirational songs. Reminds me of my dear Mother. She would watch the Statler Brothers show every Saturday night, Many times I would watch it with her. This was my favorite segment of the show, when the would do hymns and inspirational songs. I wish full episodes of their show was available.
Being from Iowa, it's a sacred right for us to visit the "Little Brown Church' in Nashua at least once. I went to my cousin's wedding there. It is really small!
Just Lovely!!! Will always be one of my favorite gospel songs. They do such a beautiful version. Just Lovely! Totally reminds me of my childhood, good old country music.
It has been said that Nashua, Iowa was settled by people from Nashua, NH. Here is a real beautiful and basic tune with appeal to many folks and done by one of the best groups ever! Love it!!!! NH
RIP Harold "your stories" and you will be missed. My 1st Statler Brothers songI learned at 3 was, "Flowers on the Wall". It made reference to Captain Kangaroo. What a great singing group! You guys and the Oak Ridge Boys are the best ever...
My aunt and uncle were married at Iowa's Little Brown Church in the 50s. It is a special place.
