- Info & Impressions of the Cannstatter Wasen Volkfest Beer fest for English travelers!
Only second in size to the biggest beer fest in the world - The Munich Oktoberfest (Wiesn) With around 4.2 million visitors the Cannstatter Volksfest beer fest feels just as big as the Oktoberfest. This was filmed on a typical weekday in 2019. For those trying to combine the fest with a vacation in Europe, I'd suggest going to the Fruehlingsfest (Spring Fest) around May each year.
My tips for the fest:
1.Don't skip the big meal before or inside the beertent (I make this mistake every single time)
2. Leave your wallet at home, bring 100-150 EUR in Cash. Once you run out you should really go home
3.Walk through the fest before you get into the tents, chances are you won't leave the tent until the fest shuts down (11pm to midnight)
4. Make a reservation, there are no fees, you just have to purchase food and drink before.
5. Come again next year!
The music is quite typical, some of these "Schlager" party songs will be played over and over in the tent!

It is sad to see the event canceled three times in a row now. Makes you miss it more. Spring Fest 2021 won't happen but maybe Oktoberfest 2021 could work. Really need to keep our fingers crossed!!

Canstatter Fest was a bonus during my short stay of 3 months.
I went in Fall of 2017. We stayed in Heidelberg and day tripped it. It was awesome. I will go back.
Praying the businesses organizing it are going to survive, keeping my fingers crossed for a 2021 Oktoberfest (don't think the Spring fest will happen next year :( )
Was stationed in Kornwestheim Jan 88-June 90, so I got to enjoy 3 Fruehlingsfests and 2 Cannstatter Volksfests and 2 birthdays during the later.
There is no Oktoberfest in Stuttgart! The 2nd largest "folk festival" in the world in Stuttgart is called "Cannstatter Wasen". "Bad Cannstatt" is a district of Stuttgart and the "Wasen" is the huge area where the folk festival takes place. Large open-air concerts also take place there, such as this year by Rammstein or Iron Maiden.
The tip "make a reservation" - do you mean make a reservation for a seat in one of the tents?
Yes, should've been clearer in the video. The reservation is for at least a half side of a table (5 people) or a full table (10 people). This depends on the tent (typically 5 pax) There is per se no reservation charge, you just pre-purchase a set amount of beers and chickens. Usually it is 3 Liters (6 Pints per person) and a half chicken. You can always use the value of the coupons on whatever you like or upgrade. And of course: You can always drink more :)

I believe you are referring to "Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit" , it was first played in 1898 in the tents and is the most played song at the fest. It is the one you've got to raise your beers to :)

@@TeoOktoberfest wir hätten einfach anfangs ein 14- tägiges verpflichtendes Bierfest für alle jüngeren Einwohner durchführen müssen. Dann wären alle immun und die Älteren wären dann durch die Durchseuchung auch gut geschützt. Lediglich bei der Bierauswahl hätte man Merkel beim planen etwas unter die Arme greifen müssen 😅
