    Whhhhoa. That hologram effect to show how it may have looked when whole, on the Bishop’s effigy is so cool.

    Awe Inspiring - can you imagine the cathedral when it had its original glass windows - and the spiral staircase fiming as you go down makes you get dizzy - can you imagine like you said going up and down all day - WITHOUT THAT SAFETY ROPE

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original windows would have looked amazing! And gosh no haha

    This is such a coincidence! Just yesterday, I was re reading some history about the Wolf of Badenoch, and reminiscing about my visits years ago to Elgin Cathedral, and remembering climbing the tower. I have always loved the pointed arches, windows and ornaments of what was later called "Gothic" architecture. With my love of such architecture and of Gregorian chant, in my childhood imagination I thought how it must feel to have been a mediaeval monk. On that theme, I had also been thinking recently of re-visiting Pluscarden Abbey. You have made up my mind-get to Elgin again this year! I loved your expression when cheek to cheek with the fascinating gargoyle! Beauty and the beast!

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very cool. Graveyards are fascinating places to explore and photograph. I recently stumbled across a private, one-family cemetery in Rockport, Maine, and wandered around in it taking photos until the light was gone.

    Thank you Kim, for showing an incredible place to us. When you were looking at the gravestones, I was thinking how fortunate we are to have antibiotics, immunizations, and modern medicine to keep us going (with a healthy lifestyle of course). Keep taking us on your journey please.

    Wonderful looking place Kim it is just the sort of historical place I like to wander around. It was really good that they were using modern tec to help everyone to be able to see the rooms. I am lucky that I live near York and at the back of the York Minster they have a stone masons area where you can watch them create stone gargoyles ect..... Thank you so much for sharing this with us I will be adding it to my long list of places to visit ;D Teddy

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A stone mason area sounds amazing! That would be great to visit and watch them at work.

    • @TeddyWandererCamera-Bear
      @TeddyWandererCamera-Bear 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is Kim I love to watch them work. Most visitors and shoppers just walk by without even noticing it !!!! Maybe I should try and video it sometime rather than just watchig them. Or better still if ever you visit York I could take you to see it and the other interesting places in the city that are usually overlooked and you could do a Vlog :DTeddy

    Kim, Excellent. I've added a couple of stops to my Scottish itinerary, including the Pluscarden. Scotland has so much to see. I'd love to see you explore some of the Pictish heritage and culture, in addition. The Pict symbol stones are magical.

    Hi Kim
    Very nice vlog, myself I love history.
    I was born in Kenilworth (look up the history of Kenilworth castle).
    Now I live in New Zealand it has only 175 years of history.
    I do miss the UK.

    For being a burnt-down ruin, it sure has a lot going on! Thanks so much for this. I noticed the plaque to a Duchess of Gordon. I'm a Gordon on my mom's side. It was kind of a shock to see that name. ;-) Maybe I should dig deeper into my roots to see where our Scottish side comes from. :-)

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It certainly does Jon and yes - you should. Gordon is quite a common name around here but would certainly be interesting to look into your ancestors.

    Always such knowledge about locations you visit! Do you know it all off by heart or do research before the vlog?

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It all depends where I am going. I grew up near Elgin so I knew most of this history already. I had a quick look on the historic Scotland website before I went though, to refresh my memory. If it's a new place I often just visit and learn about it when I arrive. A good mix to keep things interesting :)

    • @TheNonsenseAdventures
      @TheNonsenseAdventures 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kimgrantphotography I turn up places and have no idea of the stories or history. Really should have a quick look online and make wee notes. Then forget the notes and mispronounce everything :)

    Another interesting location! It seems your vlog has shifted to more locations than photography. That's not a criticism, just an observation. Building interest in photography tours, or just a shift in vlogging subjects?

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since last summer I've tried to split my channel (half photography, half Scottish tourism). I find it works well and I enjoy both aspects. I tend to do more travelling in my spare time than photography these days and Scotland has so much to offer in terms of places to visit, that I wanted go show this more. Don't worry though - this Sundays video is photography based :)
