Resistance bands are the way. I'm convinced. I feel I get great targeted muscle fatigue. I can tell they are working too, because after not using dumbbells for a a year, I went back to try them again and had made more weight and volume progression than I had in years of using the dumbbells themselves for resistance. Do not underestimate bands used properly. It's all about time under tension.
@Guy Whose opinions will offend you I find that to be an offensive opinion.... Actual answer is they seem to like an inefficient way to work out. Swinging motions and engagement of several muscle groups will lead to maximum time under tension choke points and increase risk of injury. Jay Vincent has the best fitness channel on youtube imo. Unlearn all the crap that's out there.
@Guy Whose opinions will offend you lol. If you notice I have a musical note by my name... I am also a vocalist and in no way close to a body builder. Good strength training is good strength training though. Done properly it also trains the cardiovascular system. If you want to do repetitive compound movements you should practice specifically doing the sport you are trying to improve in.
@Guy Whose opinions will offend you In the end it comes down to goals. If it's fun for you, have at. If you want to improve strength and energy output, proper weight training is the way to do it. Also, as you age, it is increasingly important to maintain the integrity of joints which means less fast vigorous movements and more controlled muscle focus. Again, I would highly recommend Jay Vincent's channel on this topic. It's much less time consuming, and more strenuous, but my goal is to get maximum results for the least amount of time having to work out and least chance of injury. But if you do it for fun, fuck it I guess... And hi, fellow musician. Between youtube and living in Austin I feel like half the people I meet are musicians lol.
First time I disagree with the Sal. I have used resistance bands for past 15 months and not gone gym at all. I have got stronger (good indicator of building muscle) plus my joints are not sore at all. The Squat was difficult to replicate but I manged to find a way to work. I honestly don't believe you need plates at all for resistance. 7 high quality resistance bands (with different levels of resistance) is all you need. IMO resistance bands will get much more popular very soon. The impact of lifting heavy weights over time messes up your joints. Anyone who has been lifting for over 5 years consistently has joint issues. Resistance bands get rid of this. Each to their own but resistance bands win for me
@@filipcza2 I overcame this by getting a solid bar that I attach the top of bands to and have built two hooks which I attach the bottom of the band to. Took some time to figure out but now perfectly replicate doing a sqaut
i'd like to know the effect resistance bands have on actually bullet proofing the joints to injury/even healing the joints or tendons that have been inflamed from weights
@@MU80k ah, yea I've seen those. X3 bar was the whole (expensive) set, but you can find similar bars separately @40+€ i believe.. may need to get one some day.
I love bands for pull aparts, face pulls, chest flies or crossovers, and tricep extensions. They're like mini portable cables haha. It's all Time Under Tension at the end of the day for muscles though. Whether that's free weights, cables, bands, a rock, a branch, or bodyweight, etc. Really, this gives us sooo many ways to create new stimuli and get creative. Using different tools means we can play with resistance curves, overall loads, angle of loads, types of exercises (sport-specfic, functional, strength-focused, mobility-focused, compound, isotonic, and even harness the amazing power of different types of isometrics), and exercise technique and variety. :D
Sometimes my body is too beat up to lifting weights. I have gyminastic rings, restistance bands, I even have a bull worker when I'm not even 60. Options are great.
I feel these guys are reading my mind. Just yesterday I wrote a comment about the major benefits of resistance bands and now they release this video. Just amazing how they are covering just a large range of fitness. Very knowledgeable people on their team and open minded individuals to keep creating amazing content. Keep it up guys! 💪🏼
I ran into too many things when I was younger so my shoulders are messed up. I’ve been working out with bands for the last 6 months and, for the first time in 30+ years, I can work out my delts without excruciating pain. BANDS GOOD!
I’m using bands as my primary means of resistance and I use things like pushups, barbell bench press to see if I am getting stronger and I am. I work out at home with no one else around. With bands I can go to failure and finish the set off with either partials or isometric hold. The occasional barbell/dumbbell sessions keep things interesting and motivate me to get back to the bands and try harder. Safety when working out alone is really important when you’re 76. “I thought I could do one more bench press and then I had to figure out how to get free.
There are really only 2 disadvantages to using resistance bands: 1. It is hard to track progressive overload because unless you have an X3, you don’t really know exactly how much resistance you are lifting at a given time. However, as long as you are progressing with the size of the resistance bands, and reaching muscle failure, either by increasing reps or using heavier bands, I don’t really think it’s that big of a deal. 2. There is little to no resistance at the peak of an eccentric contraction, meaning at the position when the muscle is stretched the longest (like your bicep when your arm is at the bottom of a curl). However, it is worth noting that at this position is where the muscle is strongest. Meaning, even with free weights, less effort is given at this position regardless.
I like the way you show the athlete's whole body. You don't try to be cute with close-ups of the athlete's body parts. That's so rarely done in exercise videos--good work!
Awesome 👍👍 that's all I wanted to hear cause I was like should I get resistance bands or don't get resistance bands 🤔 but when I heard about this I feel a lot better getting them now 🤙🏾
I think the biggest problem is people are looking for a definite "They're better" or "They're worse" than weights. I know people with much better physique than me that only do calisthenics, I know people in great shape than only do bands. So it's not a "what's better" approach, it's a "what do you feel comfortable with?". I personally started training with bands and got the best results of my life in both building muscle and getting stronger. However, it had nothing to do with the bands themselves... it had more to do with the fact that I had no reason to not train since I was already at home. I also personally despise the gym nowadays, with all the gym influencers and everything. Stop looking for a "what's better" answer and start f*** training people!
Also not to mention since these bands are relatively small, you can literally use it anywhere. I have bands up to 60KG and use a spinning bike for my cardio, I see very little reason to go to the gym when I can just do this at home. using this, and calisthenics will get you very far physique and health wise.
@@verbon47 yes yes yes! Portability is such an underrated feature of the bands. By that point you have no excuse to get your workout done even while traveling.
Cool, I use the wide band before lifting always, but not for upper. I have to get the thinner ones for upper body..why don't you guys show the exercises with bands you can do or the best ones...✌
I don't know how to explain it, but for some reason resistance bands are much harder than weights, they feel much more like cardio training. Every time i switch to bands, after few weeks i end burned out.
I have used resistance bands exclusively for the past two months after using nothing but weights before that and I have seen the best muscle gains in my life with them. My goal was to give them a serious test for a year, and after just two months, I am sold on them. They absolutely can replace weights. Anyone saying otherwise simply has not put the time into them and committed to them long term.
for the ''normal'' person, it is already a major plus if they even start weight training. Think the main reason why some are hesitant on it, is because it does not look like traditional weights.
@@verbon47Agreed. Anyone who has doubts needs to realize that your muscles don't care what the equipment looks like. Resistance in any form builds muscle.
Can anyone help me in understanding one specific issue i am coming across while reading or listening to some people about efficiency of resistance bands that we can't get good resistance at the longest part of range of motion ( eccentric?) and that's why resistance bands are not efficient.
