The initial launch titles for the Super Famicom were "Super Mario World" and "F-Zero"; those games were excellent choices for launch titles, since they are completely different from each other, and they are so well made that they _still_ hold up really well.
In epic Mike Matei fashion, he gets all 96 exits with 69 lives XD Would be great to get a compilation of the best moments from the SMW No Death streams including all the times the run ended
@MichaelJesmer actually I can't. This video is just the actual final no death run. You know that, right? we don't have the previous attempt streams where the run ended. Even if we did, he already has someone to edit together compilations so he can publish them on his channel for everyone to watch. As opposed to me spending my own time to edit something that would just be for me and wind up wasting it if/when his editor drops the SMW No Death Rage comp for you guys.
2:33:03 - I 've been playing this game for 30 years and i did not know Yoshi could eat those big moles. Bet they are not easy to digest. I can almost visualise Yoshi passing out due to a big stomach cramp at the end of the stage
This is the best game of all time For me it goes 5.Resident Evil 2/3 original 4.Super Mario World/All stars 3.Silent hill 2/4 2.Donkey Kong Country 1/2 1.Zelda Majora's Mask/OOT I love the design in this game It's so perfect You can't say one bad thing about it Love that you play all the good games too Skyrockets your channel right up there for me Whenever I'm eating or laying down or whatever I'll throw your videos on man I'm a 90's kid too so it goes hand and hand for me lol
I still have my original SMW cart from 1990, with my original save file... all 96 exits, which I didn't accomplish until 1991. I was 11 years old, and It was such an achievement for me back then. But I died a lot. Nicely done, Mike. That SMW ending credits theme is possibly my favorite piece of Mario related music.
It always bothered me that the blue and red switches did nothing other than be blocks. Seemed inconsistent with the other switch blocks. Or 96, why not 100 exits equalling 100%? I'm not sure if the game calculates progress that way or not though. Did you get the other boss door on forest fortress, does that count as an exit? At 3:14:34 it is an area with lots of extra lives over a lava pit. With another boss door.
Congrats on the successful run! Watched this live on Twitch (along with the practice runs), and I'm sure you've been told several times, but to get the secret on the Cheese Bridge, one just typically takes a yoshi to the end of the stage by flying and bouncing off of the saws. Then you float under the goal post and hop off the yoshi to the other side. But kudos on using a much more difficult method to do it. I've never tried your way, but at some point I'd like to see if I could do it.
*Yoshi and Mario can 'drop' items if you hold down on the pad while letting go of the hold button (doing this with Yoshi when he has a blue/green/yellow shell causes him to drop it for use again). *Yellow and red Yoshi can still use shells but get extra powers with them, so green Yoshi is the weakest Yoshi *The blue Yoshi flying bonus ends when you fall down the hole so it's an instant win for the level (the mole level with the crusher is one level where this is handy to get the first exit) *Way Cool can be completed easily if you get to the yellow pipe in the sky and go in it for a Yoshi, then you emerge near Yoshi wings. *Tubular can be beaten without any ballooning, just take a blue Yoshi and get to the paratoopa part. All shells make him fly. *Yoshi can eat higher by holding the up button *Mario can slide uphill by running up a hill and pressing down *Chargin' Chucks die in 1 hit of the cape, as do the jumping flames *Both exits in the Donut Plains underground stage can be beaten by going up the secret exit pipe. While in there, either use the vine or go right to the green pipe which goes to the end of the stage. *You can spin onto Yoshi and break through blocks riding him so you don't need to leave him behind *You can fly with Yoshi for a short time with the cape and he can walk on spikes/munchers, plus bounce on the buzzsaws
I always prefer the blue yoshi. The yellow yoshi seemed the most unimpressive with super power. With any yoshi though, you can be damaged and lose a life on certain enemies and stage hazards.
I might agree with that actually. It perfected the 2d mario platforming, had the best overworld map of any mainline mario, the first mario to have a whole secret world and it was before bowser became ridiculously overused as it was only his third game as main villain (Fourth in japan, which is a little overused, but still)
Great run Mike. Love seeing you take on one of my top favorite games of all time, especially without a single death. I don't think I'd have the patience to do it, but you pulled it off. Next time I see you at the Regal Beagle, I'll buy you a beer.
my all time favorite mario game 🦖 but the failing sound drives me crazy...😈 i remember throwing the gamepad away and screaming like hell...great memories ❤️
I don't have time to watch all your streams but I appreciate that every time I put one on there's always a delightful "shoving things up your asshole" discussion. That's a subject I don't see enough gaming streamers cover so props to you Mike! lol
…how are you this good at games, Man? Just reading your video titles I nearly sprained my eyebrows… And by the way, you made cinemassacre what it is. You’re the greatest.
Great video was fun watching you. Little side note i like to stand behind the p switch in that final ghost house to make the snake trail to the key so not have to walk/run past the ghosts
Awesome challenge playthrough of this! Sometime in the mid 90s I played a SMW arcade cabinet in a restaurant. I know you’ve seen a lot of arcade cabinets and I wondered if you ever saw this one?
A tip for the special world stage 2, Tubular: Practice then play it with small Mario, you will get the drop like Mike talked about, mario will almost go off the screen, but you can pull up and do the rest of the level with a smaller mario sprite, making avoiding the enemies easier. I did the level 3 timed in a row without dying.
Cool I think that's what keeps people coming back to this one is the different routes warps u can take also dk 94 that ending was crazy how many times u have to kill the monkey
2:24:19 is my least favorite spot in the game. How would anyone want to die that way? Even worse than that stalagmite from mortal kombat mythologies n64 game. I remember hoping red switches would have a flower and blue switches have a star
Super Mario World...definitely a classic game although one could make the argument that the difficulty compared to Super Mario Bros. 3 got toned down a lot (what I mean is that nothing in Bowser's World in this game felt as hellish difficulty wise as World 8 in SMB3. Add to that the ability to save which you had not in previous Mario games and it again cuts down the difficulty a bi). I think I also finally found out during this stream while some level dots are big while others are small (it took me a long time since the game came out in 1990 to realize that): small level dots have a time limit of 300 while large ones have 400. Somehow I always got a kick out of games doing a role call of the enemies that appeared in the game. I don't know how many games did this; off the top of my head I only remember this one and the Donkey Kong Country games doing this. Normally, I would ask you whether you plan sometime in the future to do Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island No Death but given that you don't care much about the game and the crying baby, I doubt that will ever happen. Don't forget to link this on your Games I've Beaten On Stream list!
Regarding enemy roll call at the end credits, some games I can come up with are: Punch-Out (NES) and Super Punch-Out (SNES), Trojan (NES), and Golden Axe (Mega Drive).
Sorry, but I'm gonna be "that guy". The SNES does not have component cables, it has RCA A/V cables. Component cables split the video into 2 or more signals and combing them, typically RGB, such as is the case with the original Xbox 360 HD hookup cable. Most component cables today are ALSO RCAs, but not all of them. Another examples of component cables are the old 15-pin VGA PC-to-monitor cables. Remember: NES standard has video and mono sound RCA outs, and SNES has video and stereo sound RCA outs, but most of the old systems don't have any component cables. Please be patient, I have autism.
my SNES must be corrupt, I completed all the stages, beat all 7 castles, yet I end up with 95 out of 96. It took me three days to accomplish this, playing for hours on end. Sat. 4/6/24.
Gonna say it. Mario World>Mario 3. Mario World has peak visual aesthetic and although it feels shorter than 3 at first, I realized that the levels are longer than 3’s. Oh yeah, and secret exits give more replay value
I like the streams Mike, I've been watching for many years now. You could try a capeless run sometime if you want to. I usually play capeless because I find it a little too easy for the most part with the cape, I don't do deathless runs though. If you don't do all the exits you may be able to beat the whole game without the cape, I can't remember exactly. If there are a few parts where you absolutely need the cape without doing all the exits then you could obviously just use the cape for those parts then get rid of it after. If you get the cape by accident then just don't float with it, I wouldn't consider that a failed run.
I do no death all 96 levels every Christmas after watching National Lampoon's Christmas vacation. I'm Jewish, so it's my best actual day off of the whole year. lol
Hey Mike!! Have you ever played "Battle Squadron" for genesis? Great Shmup with amazing music. Would love to see you stream it! Anyhoo.. great stream Mike
Mike have you ever done a challenge where if you die once in the game even without a game over, you must reset the console and start the whole game over again? Like imagine you are in World 7-4 of Super Mario Bros 2 Japan, if you died, you reset and start from 1-1. Does that seem like a challenge you'd do or is that Torture?
@@thejunkbucket3513 actually this isn't a challenge. It's more of a playthrough of a game he's played thousands of times I was thinking more of games Mike is good at but not flawless in.
Got a good Mario challenge for you. Don't care which one but an all block challenge. You're allowed multiple attempts/deaths as long you keep track of which ones you hit. He'll, you could even do a Zelda all pot/chest. For an added difficulty spike all coins or rupees (enemy drops don't count).
@@mikematei Yes, every block within reason. I know there are bricks you have to walk on, use to progress, or ones out of bounds but everything else that can be broken must be broken
Great run, one of the best games. How about, Yoshi's Island 100% including bonus levels, just doing this is tough. Or to shorten the challenge, 100% the bonus levels only but no death.

Truth.... I just ran a 2 minutes flat on Mute City 3 days ago.... my personal best
In a great video of tense moments, the most "OMG how did he survive that" moment occurs at 03:15:00.
He would have had to have been holding Run while he was getting hit because he kept his cape momentum to move to the next platform. Crazy
2:38:34 Those damn spiked pillars in the Valley Fortress. My palms were sweating like crazy that entire time!
In epic Mike Matei fashion, he gets all 96 exits with 69 lives XD

5.Resident Evil 2/3 original
4.Super Mario World/All stars
3.Silent hill 2/4
