Just the arrangement alone is mind-blowing. Released 20 days after EVH passed, very impressive.

It was his Homage to one of his Idols... He received a call from Wolf thanking him for the cover....he said it was his honor and truly appreciated his reaching out...

February 10, 1978, Van Halen 1 was released. I can still remember where I was the first time I heard “Eruption”. I was 16 years old and I had been playing guitar for about 3 years and I was at band practice. Our bass player brought in the record and told everyone “You’d better sit down for this!”. We all laughed then he dropped the needle down. I told him there is no way that’s a guitar and it had to be a keyboard that sounded like a guitar. I couldn’t wrap my head around how it was humanly possible to play like that. Eventually, I came to understand his technique and my life was changed forever. 🥹

@@StrateleStudios Indeed - especially with that tone he had - I thought the same thing when I was a kid - that sound HAS to be a keyboard/synth/effect...but then we saw the video and went to a Van Halen concert...WOW !!

i've got 30 years too, not even remotely close to this level but i know how he does it. the same way ALL the greats do it. it's not about the *years* you have, it's about the *hours* you put in. Tommy Emmanuel is the best in the world because he's played for HOURS every day since he was about 7 and he's in his 70s. every single day, he gets up and picks up a guitar and only puts it down when he has to. guitar IS his life, from when he wakes up, until he goes to sleep. then he dreams of guitar. there has never been a break.
Mike is like Tommy. he is not a whole person if he is not holding a guitar, and he knows it and is ok with it.
i will never get within sight of their skill but boy i am overjoyed to witness it. guitar bliss.

Love your reactions and great taste in music. First Arch Echo (that I adore), now Mike with this amazing rendition of my favourite band. Thanks! PS. If you get time, have a listen to band Seventh Wonder, amazing newish band, kinda Dream Theater progressiveness meets Europe/Van Halen optimistic vibes..Songs: Hide and Seek, Alley Cat..

There simply aren't enough videos about Mike Dawes out there, here's hoping you'll react to another. Since you clearly appreciate how smart his arrangements are you may be interested in a video where he plays live for Justin Sandercoe and gives some much needed insight into how he created this arrangement. Quite fascinating.
