Sounds like a really fun and diverse TBR, I hope you enjoy all of these. I feel you on just stumbling around in the dark when it comes to romantasy lol. Maybe give Reign & Ruin by JD Evans a go, that is such a perfect balance between fantasy and romance. Also, really curious to hear your thoughts on Dark Lord, I have been so nervous to try it! Happy reading 🥰
Ooh great thanks I need to check that one out! The balance is so important, and hard to find! I’ll definitely keep you posted on Dark Lord. I feel like humor in books is very fickle lol
Yes I have very eclectic literary taste for sure! I mean, you kind of HAVE to see what the hype is about right? At least give it 2 books. I would be really curious to see "an epic fantasy reader tries romantasy" video - but you HAVE to read 2 to really see what the girlies drool over.
If you’re open to 0 spice adorable romantasy, I’d recommend the spellshop by Sarah Beth durst. It’s a standalone and probably my favorite romantasy I’ve ever read
@@JAKandtheBookStack well then you need to read it. It’s right around 400 pages and a standalone which we both know is so rare in the fantasy space, even romantasy these days is frequently huge series and thicccc books 🤣
amazing tbr!! i‘m the same with fantasy romance, on paper it should be a favorite genre for me but it‘s so hard to get right for my personal reading tastes! the only series i really loved (besides acotar) was the crowns of nyaxia series by carissa broadbent. maybe it was a 'right time right book' kind of situation because i really did not love her other series, but i had the best time with that first duology!
Yes! And there’s always SOMETHING that stands out as insufferable to me. In Crowns of Nyxia, I loved book 1 but DNFed book 2 because (as is most often the case for me) the female main character was so annoyingly stubborn and miserable to read about. It’s hard to be invested in a romance when you want the main character to die 😆 I need to try book 2 again though now that I’ve had some space
@@JAKandtheBookStack oh i can totally see that! i get so easily frustrated with FMCs in romantasy because they tend to feel like the same stabby, snarky & emotionally unavailable character archetype, i really wish there was more variety in the relationship dynamics😩
@@scarqveen exactly! I always say they are too emotionally driven, which is not the kind of representation I want to see. I want strategic and reasonable priorities 😆
@@JAKandtheBookStack made it to page 47 last night at work, I was jus trying to tab off characters cus there’s so many introduced so far. Just got to the part where the teacher returns from the hospital 😁😁
@@MONIvator5.0 don’t worry, book 2 has character summaries right at the beginning you can use for a reference! It’s hard since some have two names (Elena vs Lenu)
I have also been trying to figure how what works for me in romantasy and what doesn't! I agree that taking a break in between is best.
We are just so picky aren’t we?! The right romantasy for us is out there, I know it!

Hope you enjoy your books. That last book sounds good but heart breaking.
Absolutely - I am glad I am prepared for the emotion to ensure I’m in a good headspace for it! Happy reading my friend!
I would love to find a romantasy I could get lost in!
You and me both!! Everything is reading much too similar to be captivating IMO
You always have such an interesting group of books. ALSO, I borrowed ACOTAR from the library. What do I do? Read it? 😂😂😂

I’m watching and cheering! ❤🎉😂 I hope you enjoy it! Please feel free to message me. Happy reading!
It is really calling to me right now! I’m so excited to dive in
I’m on Crown of Midnight and I jus started My Brilliant Friend 🤦🏽♀️
