Living Siddhars:
Siddhars are believed to be spiritual adepts who have achieved significant spiritual progress and have acquired supernatural powers through intense meditation, yoga, and austerities. In Tamil Nadu, Siddhars are revered figures in the tradition of Siddha medicine and spirituality. While there are many stories and legends about Siddhars, it is important to note that the existence of living Siddhars with supernatural powers is largely a matter of belief and faith. In modern times, there are individuals who claim to be Siddhars or who follow the teachings and practices associated with the Siddha tradition. These individuals may be found in various parts of Tamil Nadu, particularly in places with a historical connection to Siddha medicine and spirituality, such as Palani, Tiruvannamalai, and Madurai.
However, it is important to approach such claims with a critical and discerning mindset, as there are also many charlatans and self-proclaimed gurus who may exploit people's beliefs for personal gain. Did Siddhar medicine originate in Tamil Nadu?
Not the present limited state of Tamil Nadu. For this question I need to bring in a word by Ambedkar,"if there is one race who truly belong to India they are Tamils", meaning India was long long ago so long ago before aryans converted the country without any earlier traces was infact ruled and spoken by Tamil kings. So to answer to your question today's srilanka also was ruled by Tamils(pandias) -Ravan siddha.
In Tamil siddha means "completeness".hence a siddhar who practices all 64 kalai under gurukulam is considered to be siddhar.one part among this aya kalai is siddha medicine.
To touch untold history - Those pre historic days the area was governed by siddhars and not in the name of khatriyas. Lord Murugan is one siddhar , lord venki is another Siddhar(time frame 3000 BC )during his time vainavam spread till Russia- who was an astrologer. Lord indran son of Ravan siddha was great in levitation (asta maga siddhi) in detecting the weather through his meditative powers ,lord karuthinan(krishna) was also a student from gurukulam.
Hence we cannot limit this siddhar concept to only Tamil Nadu.basically these gurus were product of Gurukulam.
Where can I learn about Siddhar in Tamil Nadu?
Sithars are the saints who learnt the truth of life and helped people with their knowledge.
Bhogar, who built the Murugan (lord Karthikeya) temple in Palani (pazhani), has made the idol with nava bashanam (nice poisons) which in that particular combination is a medicine for many diseases.
They have written a lot of books which explains various truths of life , clearly and simply. They created the medicine system called siddha medicines.
They are supposed to be still living and there is a sizable following for them. sighting siddars are reported from various temples and he may just be sitting next to you somewhere and unless u are destined to see him , you will not realize that its a siddhar sitting next to you. Though the entire siddha concept originated from south (kumari kandam) and lankai the entire 18 siddhars and thier best contributions in science and alchemy later mostly limited to then Tamils and therefore most part of south Of India then.(today's Tirupati was then murugan temple and has Jeeva samadhi of maccha muni siddhar). Later vainam period it was converted to lord venkatesh siddhar temple.
Temples were residence of siddhars before kshatriya rule prominantly originated.When people then were excellent in all the scientific concepts it's obvious they had very high knowledge in almost all the fields from metallurgy to astrology and it is so obvious that present day Traces are buried from invasions after invasion. Hence when you read or want to know the contributions it is obvious the true history is always understood through myths and false ownerships from present times.
