The sound is actually pretty great for a live show outdoors with so many parts going on, I think. Much younger me couldn't hardly listen to live recordings. Attending them is completely different. Maybe folks don't have the experience or maybe they're adoring the wrong things. Idk
I got to see then for my birthday in 2018...fucking great show. Front row center, and they played all of those plus 3rd Planet (which is my favorite). Seriously perfect line up. Can't wait to see them this year

Thanks for posting this - I saw it once before and it had been removed. I've seen them every time they come to New Orleans and this was my favorite show. The setlist and the way he played it was great. This was the last Voodoo I went to before COVID took it out and we really miss the festival!

Made it to Dashboard but I'm done. Isaac is clearly not even trying in the slightest. Just like the last time I saw them live. Such a shame that this brilliant band's mastermind has given up so utterly that he sounds like trash live, even though the entire rest of the band is at the top of their game. I mean this guy isn't even singing his own lyrics. He's just throwing random bullshit out there. Why? Why can he not even sing his own lyrics? Why is he singing random words, off-key? Such a shameful fall from the days of having Johnny Marr. Wtf.

Had a bad experience around a year ago too but for us the sound was so jacked up people were complaining and laughing at the amount of feedback etc... My dad saw them back during Lonesome Crowded West and couldn't believe how much better that was in comparison to the more recent concert we attended in 2018. Not sure who was in charge of sound but someone needed to step it up and Isaac just seemed tired the whole time.
@@koolaidyeti Yeah I saw them in maybe 2014/2015 and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen, I then saw them again in 2018 and it was without a doubt the worst show I've ever seen. It's not the band's fault either, they're absolute professionals, it's just Isaac being shitty, which is sad because he's one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time. I don't know what went wrong with him.
I knew I wasn't gonna stay long, opening guitar out of tune...cmon. Some groups are able to sound better live, this is not one of those performances. meh

Love modest mouse but definitely a production band and not built for live shows unfortunately.
Check out their 2001 Atlanta show. They're great for small venues/clubs, not massive outdoor shows.
I get what you're saying because I absolutely love and treasure their produced albums, the melodies of Isaac's multiple layer vocals can't be produced live. Still super good though my dude!
Was just thinking the same thing. This live version of Cities Made of Ashes fuckn sucks compare to the original. Doesn't even sound remotely the same and I don't mean that in a good way I mean it sounds much much worse. Edit: Let me rephrase that Tiny Cities Made of Ashes sounds like shit on this version here.

I didn't think they were this bad live when Ii saw them at Lollapalooza 2007.
God they sound awful now. Way too many people on stage. I miss the stripped down days when they sounded raw (Just my opinion, so try not to get butt-hurt).

He was improvising. It was probably his first time doing that with this song and he'll do better in a later show. Since it was live he didn't have time to learn it.
Doesn't have more views because this band is lousy. tuned in to see how bad the are live, even worse than recordings. But, I like their latest release We Are Between, I didn't know it was them when I heard the song because they guy is actually singing and the music isn't abrasive. That's why I have tuned in here. Been fucking hating these guys for so long. Looks like they have a violin, but you can't even hear it. I probably will never go t a concert because they will play all this shitty older stuff.

This man was my soundtrack to the rock and roll invasion of Iraq. 2003 was his prime. This music is not rock-&roll at all. His addictions have gotten to him.
I rocked this music in a 10gb gel packed MP3 player of an obscure known player. It took a standard 12v charge. Amazing times of splicing wires and worrying about amp loads.

Yeah, the drummer on the left doesn’t do anything, and the old dude on the right plays the shaky thing the whole show, and most of the stuff that he plays is inaudible. If you’re gonna have 3 drummers, actually utilize it well
