Can't tell you how much I appreciate you going into the details of the actual user experience. Personally, I care very little about seeing 20 minutes of ISO 12,800 sharpness comparisons, but I care a whole lot about things like startup time, UI/UX critiques, shutter sound, and "will this actually fit in your backpack?" Super appreciated.
Haha the ‘will it fit in your backpack’ was the only thing I didn’t love about it on this trip. But again- super rare to be riding backcountry snowboarding with a camera like this haha
I totally respect that you try-out and find the "best tool for the job" rather than just being blindly loyal to one brand or another. And we all benefit from your real life use and review - thank you!
19:30 Just for anyone in the future, you definitely can charge this camera via USB-C but you need a power bank and USB-C cord capable of sending PD (power delivery). If the camera is off, it will charge and if the camera is on, it will run off USB-C power. It will not charge off of cheap USB-C cords. UGreen and Anker cords work just fine. There's a whole thing to go into with USB-C being a smart cable and can ask for the voltage it wants instead of just being handed 2.1 Amps like USB-A ... which a lot of manufacturers don't want to spend the money on the controller so they just shove the connector in and the USB-C charger doesn't know what to send so it just sends 0.5A in safe mode.
Always like real world reviews. Had my R3 for 3 months and only been self assignments (30,000) but, will start with paid jobs next week. Since I got the R3 I haven't picked up my 1DX II. Loving the R3. Thanks for your review.
Very thorough review, Taylor. Well done. I've been viewing many on R3. Saving coin to buy. Your review is best I've seen so far. Thank you. I subscribed.
Great Video. Thank you. For charging, If you use a USB-C to USB-C cable and a charge brick that outputs more then 18W it will charge. I use my MacBook Pro charger all the time and it works just find. It is a bit finicky sometimes, meaning sometimes it will just not start charging, you have to unplug it from the charge brick and the camera and try again and then if usually works.
@@maximerumiel I suspect this should still work with the R3. I think what Taylor was referring to when he kept mentioning “power send” is the USB-PD (Power Delivery) spec which delivers higher wattages (like 18W, but also up to 100W) over a USB-C to USB-C connection by negotiating the wattage between the charger and device. So unless Canon has artificially limited their flagship it should be a viable wall charging option still.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto to Maxime’s point though if you’re still rocking an older USB-A power bank you should look into replacing it with one that supports USB-PD. According to Canon’s official charger it looks like these cameras accept up to 27W (9V-3A) so something like the Anker PowerCore+ 26800mAh PD, which outputs up to 45W, should deliver the fastest charge time the camera is capable of via USB. Plus as a bonus it’s got like 9x the capacity of an LP-E19 so should top your camera off PLENTY of times before you’ve got to recharge it hahah
@@seventeencents thank you for the clarification. I got mine in on Saturday. Been doing a ton of tests with it. And yes. It does work just like the R. Now I just need to find a second LPE-19 battery. They are out of stock everywhere and the one store that has them has an $80 up charge on them.
You don't need the Canon PD charger but it is recommended if you only want to charge the battery as it is optimized to preserve the battery. USB-C Power Delivery is a confusing "standard" and you have to find a charger that matches the wattage, voltage, and charge rate.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto That's not going to happen because the batteries used in these cameras are all more than 5 volts (standard USB voltage from phone charger). In order to charge them you would either need a voltage booster inside the camera (not likely) or provide more voltage to the camera (USB-C Power Delivery mode...). Luckily USB is standardized so you can use any PD charger, no need to buy the canon one.
Great insight!! My dream cam is the R3… I’m currently running the 1dx Mk II (along with a LUMIX S1r) and loving it! I’m deciding between the R5 and the R3 after I sell my S1R… Do you think having a R3 and a 1dx Mk II would be pointless and repetitive? I am a hobbiest that does paid work including some wedding and professional portrait work. Thanks in advance.
It’s crazy I watch a review on something I really have no intention of buying any time soon but end up learning 5 random other things like configuring my eye AF in the R6. Thanks for being the GOAT and doing 🐐 things
Thanks for the insights. I received my R3 several weeks ago, and I have become very acquated with the AF Eye Control and loving it. BTW, the electronic shutter burst rate does have a 15 FPS setting. I really don't always have a need for 30 FPS unless for those special occassions to trap the ball on the baseball bat or tennis tacket.
I'm at the top of a couple of wait lists for the coming R1. That will be all I've been waiting for. If the R3 had been at least a 45mp I would have bought one. So come on R1
I think the wobble is from the ibis. So not really sadly. I think the camera is also doing a lot of internal corrections for the lens so that might play a part, too
Hello, eos R3 - raw video slog 3, I cannot get a clear image at 800 and 1600 ISO. Do you think this is normal? My exposure is correct, I tried at least 3 different programs. As a result, I cannot get rid of the same noise. Is there a raw workflow you can recommend? Thank
I have the R3, awesome. But it crashes at least twice a day (firmware 1.2.2), not during shooting, it’s only after going to sleep mode and sometimes even after properly switched off: it does not wake up resp. can’t be switched on without removing the battery. I’m not sure yet, but I assume it’s somehow in combination having GPS enabled. Someone else facing this issue?
THANK YOU TAYLOR! Videos are amazing as always! Can you eventually do another Z7ii autofocus update video for wedding photography? Or give an opinion on getting both the z6ii and z7ii for wedding photography? Thinking about switching from Sony!
@@mlai2546 nothing! But I know many professional shooters who still shoot with the D810, D850, and D750. Like... a lot of them. But if you are shooting sports, wildlife or erratic moving subject, the Z6 eye autofocus is not fast enough to track it.
