brian thank you so much for posting this video.. it helps me a lot on deciding to get one of mydmx software, with your detailed explanation on how to use it.. actually i watch your video first before i bought my lights or equiptments.. i hope to learn more from your stuff THANK YOU SO MUCH
I have both. If you want sound active and don't mind a 3 space rack unit (a little more actually because you'll need some clearence on top for the DMX cable), then you may want to go with the 192
Just for fun and with your very question in mind, I checked my CPU resources while running a light show I put together tonight. With my normal desktop, Skype and my DMX all running at the same time, I was only using between 4 and 10%. I didn't think that was too bad at all, This machine is over 3 years old too.
Hopefully the videos will help. This is all pretty new stuff to me so it may take me some time to get all of the bells and whistles sorted. Wish me luck!
I'll try to get into that in the next video. Basically, what happens is each light has a DMX IN and DMX OUT. It's a chain of lights basically. With the right cables and without exceeding 512 DMX channels, you can add as many lights as you wish to the chain!
I misspoke on the video. On the little interface box, that is the DMX output. This will run into your first light. Then, a cable will run out of the first light into the second light, etc. I'll be doing a video on this soon.
That is a VERY cool feature! I'm such an idiot with this stuff that in the traditional way of assigning fixtures, I end up giving them all something stupid like 16 channels each when they only need somewhere between 4 and 12 depending on the fixture. Although, the new ADJ lights are assigned with a digital readout which is WAY cool!
That sounds nice in terms of cpu resource use. Normally I would think that running dj software with all your music in it and having DMX on auto mode running some ready made programs for lights would consume some cpu power especially as the DMX software looked quite heavy but think people who are thinking of getting that are happy to hear that it's not the case.
Looks handy gotta say. Then comes the resource question. If you gonna run that with your mixing software will it start to crash your laptop or will you need 2 laptops to run the lighting on one and mixing software on another one.
I don't understand dmx at all the american dj pogrom makes it look so easy and after watching this video I am definitely going to invest my dmx software but I am debating weather I should buy this 1 or wait for the new my dmx 2 ???
Well tonight I had my normal desktop running along with Skype and my DMX. My CPU usage was between 4 and 10% which isn't too bad really (this computer is an old one at that). I think this can probably co-exist just fine with most DJ mixing programs on the same machine :)
@ 7:30 in the vid you used the macro then strobe and the faded it. You left the strobe on high and turned the fade on why did using the fade stop the strobe? You can't have colors fade and strobe? I'm sure you can it seams like a simple task... just curious Ck
Briann we are waiting on more videos on this item. lol Are you still playing with it or give up or what? We have been thinking about getting one for our club. We just bought two Chauvet MinSpots and one American DJ Revo III and got them mainly because of the info you posted in your videos. I love the RevoIII we got in two weeks ago but we just ordered the Minspots and waiting for their arrival. THANKS AGAIN DJ Joppie
i believe you, but on the site it says it can run windows, but requires windows, which is not included. Do I haver to buy windows, (vista or XP) separately?
Hello I have mydmx 1.0 it was working very well on my windows 10 computer I have an old laptop with windows xp and I installed it and it did not recognize it and when connecting it back to my computer it does not recognize it anymore and I reinstalled the program but I hope nothing can help me in advance thanks.
hi. i use some lights and some one telme i nead to use like a loop i dont remember when you have alot of lights in your DMX system to avoy problems. PS sorry my inglish tnx
i dont mind using pc DMX software , ive used chauvet show express, freestyler 3 and martin light jockey. but tbh i cant help prefering my zero 88 fat frog desk. unfortunatly theres not always space for it when on site.
Hi brian, very interesting topic! If I bought the hardware, how about the software? I can I download it for free? Thanks for sharing your video. I hope for your reply.
I have question does the software work with other dmx usb interfaces or it only works wit the ADJ interface? thx...i was searching for this...great job. keep posting.:D
do you run this on your Mac, or did you ever do it? I really want to get this, but I am a MAC user, and if I get Parallels, do I have to buy windows as well? PLEASE RESPOND!!! Is the program reliable?? Thanks- Ken
Im trying to set up this program and im stuck in demo mode and i found out that the devise connected with usb isn't downloading correctly. does anyone out there know what im doing wrong?
The reason I suggest this is because thoes numbers up there still mean nothing to me. HA! I would like to get my head around it but I really did ride the short bus when it comes to such things
Hey Brian I am thinking about getting this software. What do you think of this software. Are you limited with what they offer and how long did it exactly take you to make a show. Are there youtube tutorials on how to make them? Let me know
como estas no se hablas español pero nesesito queme ayudes con un tema de mydmx es que nesesito meter unos objetos al programa para diseñar algo en 3d y no se como pasar el programa de la vercion eco a la vercion full me podrias ayudar con eso
'When it comes to mathematical equations, i rode the shortbus' Lol, that makes two of us Brian; i can't do anything above basic math anymore. 4 years out of any math class will do that to you :-p
Those switches are binary which is easy you just push them forward. 1=1 2=01 3=11 4=001 5=101 6=011 7=111 8=0001 See the pattern :) Also they go in doubles when going full forward. 2=01 4=001 8=0001 16=00001 32=000001 Tho this might not be helpful anymore for Brian since he has application to show that info but maybe others, basic lesson on binary numbers.
Thanks for your videos Brian, My MYDMX came yesterday and your vids helped me no end to get started and find my feet in no time at all.
brian thank you so much for posting this video.. it helps me a lot on deciding to get one of mydmx software, with your detailed explanation on how to use it.. actually i watch your video first before i bought my lights or equiptments.. i hope to learn more from your stuff THANK YOU SO MUCH
very important series of videos brian as this is the subject a lot of people stumble at, well done! je
Anytime, man. I think that I MAY actually have this program sorted out so more videos to come in the next few days!
I have both. If you want sound active and don't mind a 3 space rack unit (a little more actually because you'll need some clearence on top for the DMX cable), then you may want to go with the 192

Right now, they are listing products available in America. You can build your own profiles as well, I just haven't learned how yet.
I'll try to get into that in the next video. Basically, what happens is each light has a DMX IN and DMX OUT. It's a chain of lights basically. With the right cables and without exceeding 512 DMX channels, you can add as many lights as you wish to the chain!
Thanks for making my decision into purchasing lights an even more difficult decision ;-)
Great vid as always!!!
I misspoke on the video. On the little interface box, that is the DMX output. This will run into your first light. Then, a cable will run out of the first light into the second light, etc. I'll be doing a video on this soon.
I was playing with my DMX and Mixmeister at the same time last night and had no problems :)
We'll try to address that as soon as I can sort it out :)
Yes, did you watch Part 2 of this video?
You can use the 3D visualizer to set up your lights without plugging anything in. You will need your computer to run the lights.
I was busy working :) will upload some videos soon. Thanks for asking. Keep it up :)
It should. I'll have to look that one up for you

@MrTan2013 by running them in serial setup as in chained without a splitter.
Looks handy gotta say. Then comes the resource question. If you gonna run that with your mixing software will it start to crash your laptop or will you need 2 laptops to run the lighting on one and mixing software on another one.
Yeah, you can do that if you get your timing perfect
Well Done Brian!!!
I don't understand dmx at all the american dj pogrom makes it look so easy and after watching this video I am definitely going to invest my dmx software but I am debating weather I should buy this 1 or wait for the new my dmx 2 ???

the program looks sweet! i like the dmx universe - i always forget what light is what address. and a pretty good price too.
Jingles is a lighting pro. You can also chat with him on the American DJ and Elation forums.
Nice, you may have to teach me!
j
great videos for beginners like me Thank you!!!
Wow, this is amazing!!
@ 7:30 in the vid you used the macro then strobe and the faded it. You left the strobe on high and turned the fade on why did using the fade stop the strobe? You can't have colors fade and strobe? I'm sure you can it seams like a simple task... just curious
Ck
I am starting to reconsider getting a controller... How much was it again?
Ok I just like to create lighting shows, and stuff. Can I just download the software and just use it to create shows on my computer?
how are you soppose to connect for example 10 lights into the one dmx input in the my dmx
you should do a video on this, Syntse!
can you use this software while running dj software onthe same laptop? I have two powerful laptops so I can handle pretty much.
I downloaded the trial, but for my shows, i cant time how long a scene will last for. Can you do this manually?
The USB cable is supplied? Thank you!
hey Brian, are you still taking questions on this??? i like ur tutorial. just got myDMX today.. wondering if u still help out.. thanks dude.
do you know if you can use the Mydmx dongle with any other dmx software?
Thanx,
Briann we are waiting on more videos on this item. lol Are you still playing with it or give up or what? We have been thinking about getting one for our club. Is there a way to add a fixture that is not listed??
Hello I have mydmx 1.0 it was working very well on my windows 10 computer I have an old laptop with windows xp and I installed it and it did not recognize it and when connecting it back to my computer it does not recognize it anymore and I reinstalled the program but I hope nothing can help me in advance thanks.
hey bri
the dmx output goes out to the dmx mixer or to the lights ?
Does version 1.0 allow you to create you own fixtures?
Hey where you been, man!
i have a question....can you make them wireless with my DMX?
hi. i use some lights and some one telme i nead to use like a loop i dont remember when you have alot of lights in your DMX system to avoy problems.
PS sorry my inglish
tnx
how can i import a song on mydmx to program my lights accordingly?
i dont mind using pc DMX software , ive used chauvet show express, freestyler 3 and martin light jockey. but tbh i cant help prefering my zero 88 fat frog desk. unfortunatly theres not always space for it when on site.
great video. it helped out alot
Hi brian, very interesting topic! If I bought the hardware, how about the software? I can I download it for free?
Thanks for sharing your video. I hope for your reply.
Thanks for this! Question: can this software be run while running Serato? Or is a dedicated laptop necessary? Thanks!
I have question does the software work with other dmx usb interfaces or it only works wit the ADJ interface? thx...i was searching for this...great job. keep posting.:D
Thanks for your efforts Brian! Mike Doelo is jealous that he can't be a spell check, so he gets revenge by correcting everyone's typos! lol
do you run this on your Mac, or did you ever do it? I really want to get this, but I am a MAC user, and if I get Parallels, do I have to buy windows as well? PLEASE RESPOND!!! Is the program reliable?? Thanks- Ken
very nice and usefull video
thx a lot
Any way you can do a tutorial of my dmx 2.0 ???

that is hot man !!! is this device robust - does it last long ?
well look i have a beam light it´s a chroma but in this software i can´t find the brand of the moving light, what can i do?

Im trying to set up this program and im stuck in demo mode and i found out that the devise connected with usb isn't downloading correctly. does anyone out there know what im doing wrong?
can i used this for my par can 64, not the led one :(
thanks this was very helpful
Thanks,, there is very little actual information out there on how to work with DMX
The reason I suggest this is because thoes numbers up there still mean nothing to me. HA! I would like to get my head around it but I really did ride the short bus when it comes to such things
It love you long time :)

That was my first big concern too. The last thing I wanted to do was replace my DMX controller with a second laptop! HA!
'When it comes to mathematical equations, i rode the shortbus'
Lol, that makes two of us Brian; i can't do anything above basic math anymore. 4 years out of any math class will do that to you :-p
Does this work on a MAC???
On the forums, this would be true. About programming in general, he still knows his stuff.
It's a feature on my Microsoft mouse
@tklindt I don't see you putting up nearly one thousand videos to help others in this industry.
thanks
Oh it's my pleasure... HA!
The DMX mixer in this case is actually on the computer itself. An external mixer isn't nessessary.
Hmm maybe I will if I find some equipment with switches or something. :)
Those switches are binary which is easy you just push them forward.
1=1
2=01
3=11
4=001
5=101
6=011
7=111
8=0001
See the pattern :) Also they go in doubles when going full forward.
2=01
4=001
8=0001
16=00001
32=000001
Tho this might not be helpful anymore for Brian since he has application to show that info but maybe others, basic lesson on binary numbers.
Well what's wrong with thinking about chicks and music ;-p.
Thanks again for the vid bri; i think i've finally found my DMX solution, controller wise
Hell, I sucked when I was IN my math class! Too busy thinking about chicks and music I guess. HA!
American DJ and American Audio are both part of the same company
I think it's just under $300
Dongle! not doggle hehehe
Did you mean too, learn to spell buddy.
