  • One step before I do the engine is the carburetors! In this video I'm stripping, cleaning and replacing the o-rings on this set of four Mikuni BST36SS carburetors of my GSX-R 750 J.
    I also adjusted the fuel level height as per manual and also as per experience. Final adjustments however will have to wait until I put the carbs on the bike and start the engine.

    This would have to be the most detailed rebuild of any Japanese bike I've seen on the Internet. Thanks Chris, I'm looking fwd to seeing the rest of your videos. Awesome stuff.

    Great to see you back in the garage Chris! Awesome vid, they’ve come up a treat. I know I shouldn’t be envious of the size of another man’s ultrasonic cleaning tank, but I do wish mine was bigger 😂

    My 1988 GSX-R 750J had 40mm carbs, splitfire plugs and a tsubaki chain, she had a great power band! Wish I kept her.

    Thanks for the video. I'm rebuilding my 88 GSXR 750 and I forgot the stock setting on the fuel screws. In the US they are plugged off and the Clymer manual doesn't specify how many turns out. Mikuni sells a rebuild kit for the carbs too, you get the floats and everything.

      @@ChrisSofos Try Niche Cycle in the US. Apparently youtube doesn't allow posting part numbers. Do a search for Mikuni BST36 rebuild kit. It will say Triumph but it also works for the Suzuki.

    Chris, what a masterpiece of work, I haven’t seen anything like this before the amount of detail is breathtaking thank you!
    Please, I have a question, Back in 1986 I purchased a Suzuki GSX-R1100 The bike has 2000 miles, but I want to remove the air box. I can’t find a way to remove it without having to cut it. Do you happen to know how it’s done?
    Thank you again

      Thanks for your kind and encouraging words!
      In order to remove the air filter box in these models, you have to remove the alternator. It's a bit of extra work, but it'll come out.
      The motorcycle you have, having just 2000mls on it, is an extremely rare bike! Look after it like your own life. Well done 👍👍👍

    Hi Chris, Looking forward to the remaining 750j videos. Just a note on your YZF 750R video. I see you turned the comments off. Why? And also, why dress like you're off to the beach riding on a motorbike? Don't dislike speed at all but not to clothe yourself correctly is not respecting yourself. Don't you think? Keep safe. 👍

      Thanks mate! Glad to be back on it.
      I used a product called FX Degreaser. But, believe it or not, I've seen people using dishwasher liquid and it did a freaking amazing job!!!
      When it comes to bronze or copper parts, the use of white vinegar works perfect as well.

    38mm Mikunis???
    Any idea of where i can find a rebuild kit for these in Greece? I found one on ebay but its for 36mm? Also the intakes are lost for those.
    Sorry to bother you on every video, I`m stuck with a project bike that i bought from a friend Lol

    • @ChrisSofos
      @ChrisSofos  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not a bother at all, What bike exactly is the kit for? I can always ask a friend that he knows the market inside out over there.

    • @williammalamas8367
      @williammalamas8367 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisSofos It`s a 1989 model i believe with a tank and tail from 2 different bikes and completely sloppy made/custom. Motor itself is a swap from an 1991 gsx750p. At this moment it has some kei-hin`s on which they leak a bit from their tanks and i was dealing with some issues which they were non-stop leaking in the engine when off until i was running out of gas.
      Now, i got a mikuni set from a friend that they look EXACTLY like those on your video. He did mention that they are 38mm and not 36mm (although he was not 100% sure).
      I just measured them and i`m 99.99% that they are 36mm.
      The other issue is that i do not have any intakes for the mikunis and the ones i have on with the kei-hin are already leaking air as well.
      So i`m kinda stuck with no solution.
      Whoever I asked so far directed me to a dealer.

    • @ChrisSofos
      @ChrisSofos  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @William Malamas since you now have the 36mm Mikunis, I believe that these I let's are the ones you are after www.ebay.com.au/itm/185561848969?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=2d3ld6narpc&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=Vqyd-hlSSYG&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
