  • The MINI Oxford Plant is the spiritual home of the brand since new MNI production started in 2001. In 2004 we visited the plant and found it full of new energy and incredible automation. While BMW has added contract production in Austria and the Netherlands and even leverages BMW production facilities in Germany, Oxford remains the largest producer of MINIs and is clearly a key part of the brand's future. But what's changes over the last twenty years since it went online? We went to Oxford to find out, sample some greatest hits of the past and to see a hint of the future.

I've worked at plant Oxford since 2002 now. We've seen a lot of changes over the years some that BMW didn't think we could achieve. When flipping from the R-models to F- models we actually ran 7 models down just one finish line in BIW. My original job was a fork lift truck driver to a robot loader to Co2 welder (welding doors on) to a lead Associate (supervisor). Even after all this time is still a place and company thatbis a good place to be. I'm really glad thag you enjoyed your tour of the plant 👍🏻

That 7 models down one line, we're still the only plant within the BMW group to achieve this. Not sure about any other car plants. When I took a group of German BMW visitors round Body in white they genuinely thought I was telling lies when I told them all the bodies go down one line as they had a finish line per model. I also worked on the original Electric mini. That was hard work but it paid off for plant Oxford.

Ordered my Countryman last week, although it's going to be built in either the Netherlands, or Germany, not sure which.
