- Filmed on Thursday, June 8 2023, I drive around the St. Louis suburb Highland, IL to see what's going on.
Highland was settled in the early 19th century by Swiss-German settlers, and the town was founded in 1837.
It was first named Helvetia (pronounced hellveesha) in accordance with the heritage of the town's Swiss-German founding members. The town voted to change its name to the English version, "Highland", in the early 20th century, as well as stopping production of its German language newspaper, in part to avoid negativity towards those of Germanic heritage at the advent of the First World War.
The name reflects the elevated terrain of the area compared to the surrounding flatlands.
Highland is located 30 miles from St. Louis.
Highland has a rich history including extended visits by such notables as Abraham Lincoln. On November 21, 1915, the Liberty Bell passed through Highland.
As of the census of 2020, there were 9,991 people residing in the city.
The racial makeup of the city was 97.00% White, 0.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.9% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 1.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.4% of the population.
The median household income was $69,442 and the per capita income was $35,742. 8.9% of the population was living below the poverty line.

I had to double comment! I saw the 2nd half and you heading towards the shopping center with Walmart/bowling alley/ and Schnucks. All around nostalgia. I hope you’re not bored.
Lory theater? I used to live on Parkview dr and the community pool. I watched Jurassic park in 1993 in that theater. Used to be an arcade near the theater and a barber shop. Glad to see Highland still thriving.
