So I first heard the Dutch Uncles when I was photographing on commission at Topshop in Dublin, and again in Topshop Broadway New York. It was repeated so many times over the course of 8 hour days - I guess they had tightly controlled playlists in the stores - and it was around the time of Shazam so eventually I got my phone out to find out what this amazing music was about. Recognised what I thought were samples from Electric Counterpoint which is my all time favourite Steve Reich composition (or more specifically, I'm not a massive fan of the sound canvas of Reich's other famous pieces - listened a lot to all of it in my university days in Manchester), anyway I was hooked. Such a great re-imagining of minimalism. Coming back to this now and I think I'll have to buy a few of their albums. Thanks Dutch Uncles for the music.
