    Frankie, you need to make an episode dedicated to pumpkins... Pumpkin soup, dinner in a pumpkin, pumpkin bread, or something new with pumpkin.

    I've been away from this channel for a couple weeks and I'm kinda surprised at the lack of background music. I think it was a nice change, it the videos feel more professional and education. It's a great improvement, not to say the old videos are bad (just mildly distracting at times). Thanks for making these, they are useful!

    I'm on a fixed income, so I supplement my food benefits with stuff from the local food pantry and mobile food share. There's always shelves full of hardening french bread, baguettes, loaves of rye, onion rolls, etc. So, now I'm going to grab a nice crusty loaf with the intent of making this soup. I also have a small pile of formerly green tomatoes that I ripened in a brown bag with an apple, so I also have some lovely tomatoes for this soup. I need to start a little herb garden now. I have a small hydroponic kit that was a Christmas gift, so I think I will use that for basil, dill (I do have some dried, from my garden - as well as chamomile for tea), maybe cilantro? thyme? rosemary? I don't know about growing bay leaf. Thanks for the inspiration though! (Aha! Just found good info on growing a bay leaf TREE. www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/herbs/bay/sweet-bay-leaf-tree.htm )

      Stale bread would be perfect for French toast casserole, stuffing, heck croutons would use them without waste.

    In Germany/Bavaria we eat "Prezelsoup" or "Breadsoup". First: a nice helping of butter and thinly sliced onion. Strong beefbroth cube will do), and then you add stale bread or prezel in cubes. add some majoran (how is it called in english ?) and/or chives - tadaaa.
    really hearty and delicious.

    Guess I'm going to have to discover the joy of fresh fennel. The soup is do-able. Got a good chuckle off your burrito. Got to watch those hot tortillas, and the foil before you take a bite.

    Though i am quite rich but i have a forever soup that i throw whatever leftovers or foraged into the soup. Its frequently on the slow cook mode. Once i drunk it, i just add water and salt to continue its slow cook. Its very rich, easy and makes me feel more satisfied. I stop eating alot of junk food and slim down because i have this easy access comfort soup at most times. I will fridge it when i feel tired of it but eat it again when i have food cravings.
    This soup has run thro frozen chicken, red bean, brown rice, wild mango, it cleans up my fridge and fill my food cravings.
    I will add wild beans, wild berries and foraged leaves in the soup. Instead of supermarket, I pick up free foraged stuff on my way home to throw into the soup. When the supermarket needed to rid itself of clearance produce, example, one dollar for a bag of potatoes, can also throw these stuff into the soup. This soup can comfortably feed a person on five dollars per week. I told my boss i am financially free already. I come to work to stare at her pretty face. Its my motivation.

    Love the struggle challenge!!! Tho i'd have made quesadilla's instead. I think the spinach would have worked better that way, plus no rolling...lol.

    It’s always supper fun to see what Frankie comes up with for these challenges!
    And the. There’s me- Asian food obsessed- I’d be doing a vegie, chilli & chicken stir fry, stir fried lettuce, an egg(if you have them) and tomato braised dish and eat it all with the rice!🤷‍♀️👍🏻🥰

    Wonderful ideas! Weather just turned cool (yesterday, 96°, today 68°. Just love fall!), so can't wait to make soup!!
    The second dish is really more of a taco than a burrito. I often plan to make burritos, but always wind up with over-stuffed tacos...

    Always love some Struggle meals. It seems alot of the videos go pretty light on the meats. I know that's probably more affordable and healthy.... But.. Will you do a big oll' honkin episode on meats? Plllllzzz

      I would say it's not so much ingredients not available outside the USA but a problem with translation. There are ingredients that have different names such as cilantro in the UK being coriander, zucchini being courgette, egg plant being aubergine, scallions being spring onions, but my childhood in Scotland, my mum, gran, aunts, etc called them syboes. To complicate it further they're called scallions in Ireland. There are more name changes between ingredients. Meat cuts are different in America. You just have to Google up an ingredient and hope it knows the equivalent in your country. The whole grill/fry/bake American muddle always confuses me too. 😂

    Literally was just about to look up a recipe to make tomato soup! Also I give the burrito a 9/10 I would also subtract the spinach only because I do not like cooked spinach.

    Surprised that a blender wasn't used at the end of the tomato soup. That always frustrated me in a lot of Western soups. Is is really a necessary step?

    beefsteak tomatoes are ridiculously expensive (1 in my area cost around $3 when in season, and you can't find them out of season), would this work with Roma?

      This woukd absolutely work with Roma. I think that Frankie is going for whatever tomato is available, cheap, favorable, in-season, etc. It shoukd be the end of fresh tomato season in many areas.

      It depends where you are, but food simply isnt cheap here. You can get McDonalds for pretty cheap, though.

      America is big and things have to be trucked, carted, or flown from the agricultural areas to towns and cities. And there isn't a huge diversity in who is growing food anymore- and some farmers are paid to not grow crops to keep food prices artificially higher. This is why I am interested in local "misfit" produce that may look weird but should be fresh and cuts down on food waste in the US.

    “Beefsteak Tomatoes are flavorless” are your tastebuds broken? Also, you should have told your viewers to put the tomato stem side down on the counter. You passed your test, I’ll give you 7.5 out of 10. But never, never slice your anything while it’s wrapped in foil!!! What if you get a sliver of aluminum foil in your food and you didn’t notice? Great way to choke yourself or someone else.

      Some tomatoes are pretty flavorless (ever had sliced tomatoes from Subway?). If the tomatoes are picked before ripe, and then held in storage for months, then ripened with ethylene gas... the flavor suffers tremendously. Roasting or cooking them helps develop more flavor.

      Strange....I've been cooking and baking since I was eight years old, including serving sandwiches and wraps in foil and in parchment paper. Not once, in my 59 years of serving/cooking/baking---not even once---has anyone ever found a "sliver of aluminum foil" (which would be a very tiny piece, just by it being a sliver), nor has anyone ever choked on any wrappings of any kind that I've used.
      Methinks thou dost like to be an alarmist just to make thyself heard (when nobody will listen, anyhow, so why bother?)
