I totally agree. I think Tejen-bhai is one of the best sarodiyas performing for the last decade. Technical mastery in addition to beautiful exposition skills.
Pandit tejendra's style is very melodious and sweet. He has blended in perfection the beenkari with gayaki. He is really the great one in current period of time or rather this generation.
Tejendra is, in my book, the best exponent of sarod in the country today. A true representative of the Maihar clan, he has carved a niche for himself because of his extraordinary imagination and enviable control over both melody and 'laya'.
It is Kirwani. He announced it as Kirwani. The gat is the same as the exquiste 1967 Kirwani performed by Ustad Ali Akbar and Pandit Shankar Ghosh, originally published by World Pacific on LP and then later released on cassette through the AACM store. When I was growing up, I listened to that Kirwani recording constantly. When I met Ustad Ali Akbar Khansahib I told him that if I was marooned on an island, this is the recording I would want with me because I never tire of listening to it.
Stunning performance by two great maestros. Pandit Tejender is seriously underrated in the arena of sarod. His playing is not only melodic and soul stirring, but also beautifully executed and clear; as this rendition demonstrates. Re Pandit Swapanji, such complexity and clarity of bols is rarely seen and even more rarely executed so crisply. Thanks for a wonderful post! Do you have the alap portion? If so please upload together with any other parts of this performance. Appreciation in advance.
Why there is a comparison between alam Bhai and tejen kaku ???? They both have their own different identities.....so respect it religiously End of the day it's MUSIC Let's not make a negative comparison
From my limited knowledge of Music, it appears to me Panditji is playing Chandranandan. (Garden on the Moon-my translation, Ken Zuckerman translates as "Moonstruck). It is one of my favorite compositions. Many thanks to the two Maestros. Very well played.
This is not Chandranandan, it is Kirwani. He is playing Ustad Ali Akbar Khans gat. There is a version of Ali Akbar Khan playing the same piece, just see the difference between original and duplicate.
OOh please don't say that! In this gharana Alam Khan is the best! no comparision. Tejen may play superficial taans and riffs but when it comes to correct swar and shruti he is fluff compared to alam. Here is he playing ali akbar khan saabs gat in kirwani. Listen to the original by khan saab, poles apart.

Laajawaab tabla accompaniment by Swapanji. What a treat to experience it for 30 mins. Thanks for posting

What beautiful playing by Tejendraji and what subtle accompaniment by Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri ji. A pure bliss.
The confluence of two greats can create this kind of magic.
Pt.Tejendra Narayan is a genius. I would like to listen more and more.
One of my favourite Sarodia's no matter what the Alam worshipers say. Alam is of course a wonderful player but how could you not love this guy.

Pronam 2
তেজেন্দ্র"নারায়ণ" মজুমদার, না তেজেন্দ্র মজুমদার "নারায়ণ"?
Which taal is it in?
Tintaal
Then you have not heard Alam Khan
