This guy doesn't really critique anything, everything is always good. I'm here because I have to crank up my volume to 80% with the 16 speaker 460W H/K system in my M5. It sucks. Clarity means nothing if you can't hear it. And no, I don't have music blaring where everyone can hear it.
Not true! I've torn Honda a new asshole for their audio systems. But you're right, BMW H/K systems are not great for the money. Compared to the rest of the market as a whole, however, they're decent.
@@alxbl324 He's even criticized HK systems in the past lol. I will say, the M5 is quite a bit louder than the X5 in terms of ambient noises, so even if these systems are identical in clarity, the sound would be more drowned out in your car
Great video, It showed up in my recommendations, very enjoyable. Yes the Harmon Kardon sound system is not bad but still leaves you wanting for more in the X5. I have the X5M competition and if I didn’t buy buy it from dealer stock, I would probably have opted to add the Bowers & Wilkins. But! After owning the vehicle for a year and a half I have found a plug n play resolution that targets the sound issues you mentioned such as the bass disconnection from the rest of the system and centering sound stage as well as more clarity and depth. It is to add a aftermarket amp with DSP from Audiotec Fischer. I think the extra power and tune abilities make this system sound better than any factory system on the market and it gives you an easy option to add a subwoofer.

@@_stv1 I don’t know how much that actually is in your country but it sounds expensive. So I would think twice as well! If you would like to upgrade your current system, look at a German company named Audiotec Fischer. They have replacement amps too if you’re interested.
I just came from the Audi B&O Advanced (not premium, I have the Premium 3D in our Q5 and that thing is garbage compared to our BW in the S90). I think this HK system (with the equalizer that isn't even available with *any* B&O system in Audi), and your suggestion is probably a great option for me. I *really like* how the A6 drives, but the sound system is important since our family does road trips several times a year, so I guess I'll go *slumming* and opt for the X5 with HK (maybe their BW if I find one, but I heard it's not as good as the BW in the Volvo's). Great suggestion, I'll keep it in mind if I end up going in that direction.
Okay something ain‘t right here… Like you said BMW claims this is the 464W system. I drive a 3Series with the „same“ HK and it‘s really missing out on the low end, like you mentioned in your review. How on earth are those systems the same?
The tuning is completely different for each series, and there's much more air space in the cabin in the X5. They can also build in a much bigger and sturdier enclosure for the under seat subwoofers. I wonder if they nerf the eq in the lower models to artificially elevate the higher ones
The MDX Type S 1000W 25 speaker ELS shits all over this and can be had for 75k on the advance. For 2024 BMW screwed up because u cant get the 1500W B&W now on models below the M60i and that sucks big time!!! So you stuck with that mediocore H&K on an 80k SUV!!

Subwoofers are under the front seats :) And Amplifiers + DSP are hidden in trunk, so you dont see them and they doesnt take any space from it.
Do you know what Bluetooth codecs are being used?
Please compare it to the Audi q7 BOSE with a subwoofer in the trunk.

Based on ur hk reviews on bmw cars there is quality diff between them right? If I am not wrong u rated 6 score on 3 series (incl m340 and m3).
I can confirm that my 3series with the HK does not have anywhere near as much low end as this car, really weird.

did you try playing with equalizer?
Lol I have no idea. The 3 and 4 series HK systems are really rough. You have to tweak the EQ a bunch, but thank goodness BMW gives you a good EQ.
