this is one of those movies where everyone in it is doomed from the start and nothing they can do is going to change the outcome. The Devil's hand is already on them and some of the characters are literally going through the motions under the influence of the demonic essence Kobble put into the dolls. I truly love it, it's deep and melancholy and twisted and Cage is iunforgettable.

On the audio commentary for the movie the writer an director says. That how Nicolas Cage delivers his lines was all him. He was not guided in any way to do it.
Also that stuff when she met him as a kid the snow was a random chance. It was not planned it just so happened to snow.
Also the devil makes a few appearances in the movie before. You first see him out of her house in her drive way. He also appears in a few scenes in the background briefly.

You should watch the movie, "Manhunter" a thriller, in this same vein. But more believable. It was remade in 2002, as "Red Dragon". I liked the original, more better.
