The second film and now the third, especially the scene when he takes time to break apart and then reassemble an antique gun just to fire ONE bullet and continue the run, it shows how nothing can really stop the man once he's let loose from the burdens of his life. No home, no cars, no family, no rules. All that focus, commitment and sheer will just for a shot at being at peace, to love and remember Helen. Not even Santino's army, not even the High Table can stop him. John is truly one of the greatest, if not the greatest, assassin characters ever created. What sold me to the franchise is not just the incredible skills he has, the stylish suits and hotels, the world building, but also the humanity that John possesses even when everything seems lost and hopeless.
