I love Vaness' portrayal too. She's funny in the comic moments and just as good when presenting the Countess' tragedy and desperation. And yes, this Countess still does love her husband very deeply.
I must say I'm enjoying this production immensely so far. This is a slightly new side of the Countess I've seen in comparison to other productions. Vaness does a terrific job of showing the dilemma of a woman who obviously loves her husband deeply but is simply at a loss on how to persuade him to turn his attention back to her. Of course, there's quite a few Countesses who look nostalgic or unhappy but not quite to such a desperate degree as I see here...a great interpretation!

I got to know both singers when I saw this production in ROH and I have become a big fan of them and also Mcloughlin.
