    Wow, I am a dayli cyclist and at school we are working with arduino now, and i love te possebiletys with it. Great job on the use of the arduino here.

    "Thanks for uploading this video tutorial and Arduino code, teacher." commented Charles. "I found the code helpful when trying to figure out how not to count a closed switch more than once when logging data with an Adafruit Data logger feather wing. I saved the data to an SD card to make a graph of bicycle speed for wikipedia. That was fun." he eLaborated.

    great stuff! I've seen a few of your bike videos, they're awesome!

    haha. yeah, i bought a nice camera, but i haven't spent any time think about / money on audio. That's next on the docket.
    Um- sorry, I'm a little confused by your question. Can you clarify? you want to build a speedometer? bike tire as a potentiometer?

    i wouldn't use a reed switch, it has moving parts that will wear out quickly.
    A hall sensor would be better suited for anything that needs to be rapidly switched. good video tho

      Nothing wrong with reed switches I've used them on my bikes and never had one fail yet. They are perfect for this project as all cycle computers use them so easy to find one designed to be frame mounted.

    Do you know to create state of charge measuring for an electric bike

    Hey I just thought of a question, and I hope you can help me. I have this idea to use a bike tire / or stationary pedals as a potentiometer. what should i use? as a reed switch would need 2 or more rotations before it could start measuring speed and velocity.

    thanks for this idea... i all ready checked out your site and see the program... can i use the odometer program.. and please can you separate the odometer program only cause we cant use it with other program.. thanks in advance!

    put a heavy blanket around and behind your mic, your videos will sound 1000000x better ;)
    sorry I can't help it. me = audio engineer.

    shouldn't the distance be wheelc * rotation, pls clear

      isnt that what she did??
      she has done
      odo = wheel_circumference * circleNum
      which is similar to what u are suggesting

    Hi Jenna deBoisblanc
    I am a newbie to this Arduino and would like some advice from you if you have the time.
    And I would like to buy the right part and wondering if you can explain the following
    I wish to use the RGB LCD SHIELD KIT W/ 16X2 CHARACTER DISPLAY for a speedometer.
    Buy not sure which one, Can you explain the difference RGB negative and RGB positive.
    Kasba

    I really want to put this on my go kart I'm building. A friend gave me a 20x4 LCD for free and I want it in my go kart. I couldn't find the code you where talking about anywhere. I checked adafruit and your website and everything. Out of all the speedometer LCD tutorials yours is my favorite and I really want to put it into action. Can you or any one else help me out here???

      click the link under the video and scroll down to the "code" section. There's a link to the code on Github. I'm not sure if a reed switch is going to work on a go kart since it travels a lot faster. maybe someone else can weigh in. :)

      Bob Branham Hey,Did you already find a way to use the LCD at your gokart
      Because I also have the same Project
      would be really kind if you sent me your code

    I have made one that includes a wheelieometer, see my channel, to time how long you are wheelieing for using an accelerometer to detect angle. Also does the normal speed stats, distance time, clock, and energy and power estimated from the rider and bike weight, speed and slope.

    I was planning this project before I saw your video. I was planning on using a Hall effect sensor and rare earth magnet. The Reed switch is so much better. Thanks!

      I have completed this type of project using a Hall Effect Sensor, I followed a project on Arduino Project Hub, it worked for me!

    yeah, you could make a speedometer + odometer + calorie counter

    • @charlesjames4194
      @charlesjames4194 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. + inclinometer for the calorie or energy counter. Thanks for doing this.
